Installing a new set of Trijicon HD Night Sights on my Springfield XD9 with Sightpusher.com's AWESOME handgun sight pushing tool!
Actual removal of old sights was a missed opportunity... At 1:25 I talk briefly about removing front post, it basically came out so easily I wasn’t ready for it to be so simple and didn’t even have camera setup to record cuz I thought no way going to be that easy BUT it was. Rear site was harder, needed to secure slide pusher in a vice to get torque enough for that dude, yet again got carried away forgot to film before it came off. Good luck with your install though you’re going to do just fine:)
Update 1: If you don't want ANY aluminum rub marks on your slide just use small cardboard or leather shims between block and slide. I've done this in the past and it works great. I didn't do this in the video bc the aluminum is easily whipped off afterwards (but I wish I would've shown this step in the video cuz of the amount of Q's I've gotten about it ((rightfully so) after posting:).
Update 2: Be mindful to NOT place the push blade over any manufacturer markings on the side of your sight ie. chemical properties usually printed in white on Trijicon sites without a cardboard or leather shim as the STEEL push blade WILL rub those markings off!

I would recommend when removing XD sights. Take out right to left. Install left to right.

Put masking tape on the all the faces of the sight drifting tool so when you clamp your slide the sight drifting tool doesn’t transfer metal. Super simple and super cheap.

I have one of these tools. Swapped out several sights but I ended up upgrading as I found the aluminum pusher too soft and needing "reshaping" almost after every job. But you save a lot of money going with a tool like this and yes it does work. Good video.

This was the only thing that got my XD9 and XD40. I also had to put the pusher in a table vice to take the rear sights off. Finally! Thanks so much for this video!

Thanks for the video! I've had my XDS Mod 2 for almost two years afraid to attempt a swap due to the horror stories. Someone told me to put the slide in the freezer for a while prior to removal....I'm gonna just give it a go! Thank you sir.

Gotta chime in I absolutely hate my XD 45. I can shoot a g34 intuitive sights and trigger all shots on target it's really natural. Go back to my XD and it's got a horrible long travel mushy trigger and the sights are just terrible. I've got a few hundred rounds and it's still hard to get a good grouping. I'm now doing a vortex adj. red dot and a freedom trigger. I really hope it changes this gun so I love it. It's really fine for personal defense or home defense but actual target shooting or longer distances it's crappy in comparison to all my other guns.

Let me know how these upgrades do in your XD45 presto! sucks to hear the XD45 is giving you no love, times too short, you gotta shoot guns you love:) In general the XD feels terrible, it wasn't till I stippled the crap out of it that I even STARTED enjoying holding it;)

I used a vice hammer and punch on my XD40. Had to really hit hard but got it done. Was unwilling to spend any money on that great looking device. Did the same to my G3C, it was much easier.

Looks like a nice tool. However, it also looks like the tool could scratch the finish on the new sights being installed. This wouldn't work for me because I'm super OCD about this kind of stuff.

it didn't scratch the finish on the sights BUT it did scrape the Trijicon chemical formula thingy off the side of one of my rear sites, I learned from that and now push from a spot where it doesn't contact that kinda stuff:) But totally hear you on the OCD:)

Travis Thacker and open up a can on them just for making front finer sight changes a bitch too! Had to heat a knife and cut the bad boy at an angle to split it so I could remove it. Putting in the green rod took 10mins vs over an hour to remove it! 🤦🏼‍♂️ Nice share. Might take the leap and change both to TruGlos soon!

Ah, this looks easy. I'm pimping out my M&P and I've been looking into replacing the factory sights but didn't like the idea of beating the hell out of it with a punch in a vice. Besides, my vice is in my garage and wasps own it now. Thx!

you can do it! Before I got this sight pusher I remember beating the sights out of an old M&P 9c I had and it was just the stupidest experience ever... pimp out that blaster with confidence;)

I tried 2 different sight removal tools, soaked the area in kroil then spent several hours hammering with a Vice and brass punch. I think I moved it 1mm before calling a few gunsmiths, one of which said he won’t touch XD sights 😂. The other place agreed to it but is charging $100

which is why I was so surprised this tool worked so stinking well removing the sights, it worked so well that I didn't even get original video on me removing them cuz they came off so fast:) Best of luck to you!

I have the real avid master sight pusher and still having problems getting this xdm sight to budge. The front sight actually broke and left one of the tabs. That wasn’t so bad. This rear sight, I’ve been trying to work both directions in case i was wrong and still cant get it to budge. Soaked twice. About to give a torch a try. We’ll see.

So I see there is no need for a hydraulic press to remove these sights. I kept hearing tales of how difficult removal could be.

You got it Shane! I'd read all the same things (partly why I made the video), you SHOULD be able to get the XD sights off without even needing a vice BUT I did need to use a vice once to get the rear sight off a brand new XD I bought last year. Hope this helps:)

I just heard that same hydraulic press crap. The first place I went to was only charging me $20 to install my Truck Glos on my Mod.2. They held my gun for a week before finally telling me they need a press. I called another place and the lady told me the first place was full of shit. I'm pissed.

Damn net need one. My question is simple. I have the sight remover, adjuster, but need to know. Can the sights only be removed by pressing to one side or the other.I tried to press out from left to right with rear sight in adjuster and barrel facing away. I cranked the hell out of that thing…..did not move even one fraction of a mm.

@@PeterRichardsandYoureNot depends on the dovetail. They are one-way and which way varies based on pistol. I’d say more come off to the left than to the right, but dovetails are definitely not bidirectional - they only go on and come off from one direction and they get tighter the more you press them in.

Maybe I'm mistaken but it looks like the slide was scratched really bad at the 3:10 mark in the video. If I used this a believe I would measure and cut a old credit card to use as a protector before I clamped it down. If I'm wrong accept my apologies.

Phato! good eye and thankfully the answer is NOPE! that's just residue from the aluminum blocks that then was EASILY rubbed off later. And YES, you can and should probably use some sort of shim between the block and slide, I've just used small pieces of cardboard or leather in the past to protect the slide better:) HOPE this Helps!

XD45 must be a hit and miss because I have two and I had an issue with my compact so I didn’t even attempt the full size. It also broke my sight pusher. Didn’t have any trouble with my SD9 btw

Does it matter he direction the sight is pushed out? I used the XL version of this pusher and the pusher kept digging into the sight metal and then came over top the sight and now I have no edge to push against on one side.

yes it does, sights push out from R to L from the orientation of looking down slide rear to front

Is this the sight tool where you can purchase different "shoes" for different guns so that you can adjust the sights on several different pistols? I honestly didn't think you would have such an easy time on the XD, even with a tool. Nice job!

At the site, click on the standard push tool, then scroll down and you'll see the LARGE block is suggested for the XD series.

I know I suck, I thought to try removing it a little and it came off super easy fast, got carried away didn't have my camera set, I explain a little of removal process later on in video... You can do it, best of luck!

nope it did not! no slide scratching cuz the blocks are aluminum and the aluminum that rubs of on your slide you can just rub off or you can just place some leather or cardboard between your slide and the blocks if you worries about it:)
