I was between two sprinter models and leaning towards the one that has the lane assist as I think that's a pretty important feature and works well in other cars. But after watching your video and doing a brief research I've decided to get the one without lane assist. (There were other differences too but lane assist was the only one I cared about) You saved me a lot of money and frustration. So thank you :)

Great video and I'm glad I'm not the only one with those issues you mentioned. I joke the Sprinter is just full of first-world problems but at that price point, you do kinda expect more. I didn't want to get a vehicle right after a major redesign, so I waited, but even with a 2021, I've had all the recalls you mention, etc. And yes, service quality GREATLY varies at Mercedes dealers. I had one in Colorado keep the vehicle for almost 2 weeks and return it worse than they had it; another dealer in Florida ended up fixing the issue in 4 hrs. Yes, some stuff is just plain silly (where the 4x4 button is located, completely obscured by the steering wheel; speed limit sign recognition is basically useless) and other stuff is rather dangerous, the surprise braking from time to time due to driver systems being over active as you also mention. My 4x4 Winnebago Bold on the 3500 Sprinter MPG is closer to 14 or 15. Finally, I have been really impressed with the build out quality of Winnebago (cabinets, dovetail drawers, etc) and the quality of the systems they installed (Volta, solar, Truma, etc). Thanks for the tip on the acceleration lag; I may try your solution. Note to readers, the acceleration lag is annoying at sea level, but at elevation, it's crazy! I've had the Sprinter get stuck pulling/backing out of a slanted parking space in Colorado (had to put it in 4x4 low range) and you have to stop several car lengths back at stop lights in an effort to try and time the acceleration when you anticipate traffic to go in front of you (getting a running start). However, if the car in front of you hesitates, it can defeat your timing, and you look like a total slowpoke.

Thanks for the review! I own a 2011 (NCV3 4x2) that I built out myself, purchased used, with the explicit pupose of building, traveling, owning one, before I move to the 4WD or AWD. Totally agree about the service - it's my daily driver and it's near impossible to get a service appt that isn't 2 months out - and they want to keep your van for 1-2 weeks. I've been trying to get in (post AEM) while I have a warranty for a while and it's been tough. I will say that my local dealer got me in to at least run a scan on a recent CEL to assess things, clear the CEL..etc at no charge, within a day after pleading with them for a while. I still need to get it back in and I know it'll be left for some period of time. Still, I'm test driving both a 22' and 23' today as I've pushed the urgency of upgrading due to the 4x4 being discontinued. I want to assess drivability. The whole acceleration lag (that I deal with on my 11') still seems to be an issue even with the newer 7spd transmission. I really like the idea of a truer 4x4 as I do venture off road in the west, but I'm tired of dealing with V6 lag/emissions issues. Maybe the AWD with improved drivability will win me over.
@GayeNRobert
@GayeNRobert Год назад
Thank you for your constructive information! It'll be interesting if the all wheel drive has the lag. Our son owns a gas Mercedes and there is no lag ever...
@mtforger
@mtforger Год назад
@@GayeNRobert No problem! Well, the test drive went well - but boy is it a tough call. Drivability, no question the 23'. No hesitation off the line, if anything the only thing I felt was the 9spd tranny moving through those lower gears. The new electric steering/AWD combo definately makes it feel more "car like". The 22' V6/7 spd combo ran well - though I still felt a slight hesitation off the line. 4WD v AWD? Not enough driving to know, but I managed to find a road that wasn not plowed - although driven through - and drove both through that short 1/2-1 mile. Both were certainly better than my 4x2 - even without snow tires. Driving the 22' certainly felt a bit more "truck like" with the hydraulic steering and typical, suttle whine of the transfer case/driveline. In short, 23' hands down for drivability. Smoother, good power, steering, and didn't feel any louder or overworked going 80 on the highway (I think it was running right around 2K RPM). So hard to know if the 4WD would give more off-road capability, but I can't imagine pushing a heavy, built out van, THAT much further into the backcountry (although its probably more capable than I would push it) - I already travel backcountry roads in the 4X2. I just don't know if the 4WD system (with a still questionable V6/EGR issue performance) is worth the tradeoff for the AWD drivability and at least a slight gain in winter/off road capability. EDIT: And to be clear, the V6 still drove really well - 4WD not engaged for 95% of travel - its just that slight familiar hesistation tha reminded me of my 11'

Your DPF failure that early is rare, unless extreme operating conditions (e.g. long idles). Hopefully smooth sailing from here. I highly recommend changing the oil more often. Use better oil and add a catch tank to keep the gunk out of the turbo. Mercedes recommends a gas engine oil instead of a diesel oil. All part of the emissions shenanigans. This is apparently why there are so many DPF issues. Plenty of info out there about it.
@GayeNRobert
@GayeNRobert 2 года назад
Thank you Rob for the info... We will check into that. Thank you for watching and having your comments.
@59morris29
@59morris29 2 года назад
I second the motion from Rob Hartman - oil changes at no more than 5k due to fuel dilution of the oil from excessive blow-by. Better oil is also a must but it could void your warranty if they have it tested after a major engine problem. Also, installation of a catch tank between PCV>turbo to prevent excessive oil getting into your turbo - this leads to all kinds of emission system problems not to mention clogging your turbo. My 2019 actually threw a rod at 5k due to the excessive blow-by problem pooling oil in the turbo intercooler and then sucking it into the engine! It's a know problem with a specific MB service bulletin issued for it. They currently have no fix for it but the catch tank will prevent this problem as well. Luckily, I got a new (remanufactured) engine under warranty (took 8 weeks) so I was able to do a proper break-in with diesel break-in oil - my blow-by is now minimal and it has better power compared to the original engine. Dealerships typically do not instruct buyers for proper break-in and the MB recommended oil doesn't really function well as a "break-in" oil. Most of the Sprinters out there have poor break-ins and lots of blow-by and will have emission problems sooner rather than later... I also agree with the lackluster MB service, had plenty of those issues as well. All that said, I do love driving my Sprinter but had I known of all these engine and service problems, I don't know that I would have bought one. It's a narrow line you should be walking to keep it in good running order and get a lot of service miles out of it. I had no idea, I thought it would be like the MB diesels of the 60-70s, the ones that last 1M miles - unfortunately, those days are gone.
@thisisanalias808
@thisisanalias808 2 года назад
@@59morris29 The MB manual states the oil rating requirements. You are not required to use MB oil. As long as the correct rating is used they can't deny coverage. Thats a federal law as well. If pressed the dealer will concede this point. Its questionable if the MB oil even meets the correct rating for a turbo diesel. Get ready for another recall. "Allegedly" they lost in court again in late 2021 and will be required to do another recall campaign. Requiring several parts to be replaced.
@59morris29
@59morris29 2 года назад
@@thisisanalias808 Hi Rob, glad you're pointing out the oil requirements subject, yes you are right. MB has a list of approved oils from other vendors, however it's difficult to ascertain exactly what the recommended formulation details are - I couldn't find anything specific they've published. Two issues to look at are fuel dilution and anti-wear components - diesels need "scattering" agents to keep the soot suspended that comes from the fuel dilution. Otherwise, the oil can start to gel, one of the main reasons to not go beyond 5k on an oil change. The other is the EP package in the oil - They've recommended away from zinc due to the amount of oil blow-by getting into the turbo and then the DPF. Zinc does not burn off during the regeneration process and thus ultimately spoils the filter. These engines are known for cam sprocket wear which a zinc additive oil would help prevent but there are none on their list of approved oils. By running a catch tank, zinc getting into the DPF would be minimized, thus eliminating the issue of running a zinc additive oil. Of course there are a lot more details in the subject matter of this conversation - didn't want this to get too long. I should also mention cylinder glazing, another issue with their recommended oils, this is one of the reasons for the excessive blow-by, which to your point suggests the questionable rating for a turbo diesel. I could expand more on that if anyone's interested, has to do with the oil's NOACK and HTHS ratings...

I have heard that the 20k oil change interval is too long and that it contributes to DPF and EGR issues. Hearing that going 10k will reduce maintenance issues (and getting the right oil). Thank you for your video

You can clear some codes using an ODBII tool. The real beast is the Star diagnosis but that is nothing for amateurs. You can order any part from the parts desk that came on a MB in your country. Either you look up the part number yourself or use a VIN of a vehicle with that extra. Mercedes Benz Canada has loaners I was told but I never bring my van for repairs. You should disconnect the negative terminal above the accelerator pedal and wait a bit before you mess with the airbag and restraining system. Change the transmission oil more often than what the plan says.

So, I have the same year Chevy Express. I do live in Wyoming. I'm at 73k miles now. This van has been absolutely flawless! The only warranty with that's been done - GM didn't install the windshield correctly, and it cracked, and the heater control head, for blower speed broke. 5k oil changes, trans gets it a 40k interval. This 20k oil change is just stupid, at least for us city drivers. Great video though!

My former company has a very large fleet of Sprinters, and they do have a fair amount of issues. In spite of that fact, they continue to order new ones. Lots of door hardware issues, DEF problems, etc. When we first got them, they were so unreliable that they were only assigned to locations close to Freightliner or MB. These were also marketed as Dodges in the early days too. And, yes, driving out of a tunnel into a strong crosswind is major pucker time. Sprinters are sort of the red haired stepchild of Mercedes. Still, way better than the ProMaster and the Transit isn't available in 4x4.

Some of the MAF original parts last for 50-60K miles and you notice that hesitation slowing for a street corner when you give it fuel half way through the corner-that lag where the motor misses a lick. Good video. I can sense the honesty. I agree with you, the main issues are coming from Mercedes costumer service, rather than the Sprinter. On my personal experience, when I bought my 2007 Sprinter 3.0 NCV3, it was only my second diesel vehicle. I was not aware of all the things needed to take care with all those new systems of 2007. Now a days, I read horror stories about Sprinter owners dealing with emissions systems and so on. I kind of sense in here that most of this issues develop from the excess of technology Mercedes dumps into its vehicles, and the lack of knowledge from most owners regarding the new systems. Like you say, out there is just no better van. Even with all it's issues. There's no better van than a Sprinter. I'm glad I'm still driving my 2007 Sprinter. Not so complicated as the new versions. It has just over 400 000 miles, and still running strong. I wonder how long it will keep going. Some people say they pass the 600 000 miles. I been able to tackle the infamous oil cooler gasket replacement job, by myself. After that, the only problems I had is the dpf filter getting clogged. This happens about every 150 000 miles. I use Molly dpf protector and believe it helps. I know it's due for injectors service. One thing I do is changing the oil and filter every 10 000 miles. I won't wait until 20 000 miles. I also do transmission and differential service. Now I feel confident and with more experience when working on her. I love her. I'm just another remodeling guy. I'm not a lawyer or a doctor. I got to watch my investment. But when the time comes, I'll buy me another Sprinter. I'm thankful somebody keeps building Sprinters. A tried and true van. Sincerely, Pedro

The V6 Diesel engine is a monster. How good are they on the long run? Since they use AdBlue they can have more issues with the after treatment system, derate etc. These vans are made in the US, they are a commercial vehicle so they will not be that luxurious, they are more spartan. Regarding the dealership experience, just because you take it to Mercedes it doesn’t mean you’ll get good service. I prefer to do the work on my own cars, Mercedes wanted 800$ for a transmission oil change…. I did it myself. DPF filter before 30.000 miles? What if you were in Alaska when that happened…these Diesel engines are not as good anymore… not just Mercedes… all Diesel engines that use DEF.

@@GayeNRobertthanks so much for sharing. I'm watching this video because we have a Sprinter as of this March. And there are things that drive me nuts about it. The Lane keeping and Cross wind assist in this van are terrible. Scares the crap out of you. I hate that they do everything with braking. Also why isn't there a preference for me to turn these things off and keep them off?? The single port in the phone cooker on the dash --ugh! Having to open and shut the driver's door after I turn off the vehicle with keyless start/stop. We also have Tesla with FSD. FSD is awesome. Don't give up hope! We just received 12.5. If you haven't tried it recently, give it a try, it's pretty amazing. I sure wish Tesla had a Van. I do like that the stalk controls are similar to the Tesla controls. I wish the Sprinter had the thumbwheels that Tesla has on its steering wheel.

I think a big issue with alllllll diesel vehicles that have to complying with all US regulations is just that, constant change in law and regulations really restrict and make it hard on manufacturing and engineering on these engines, for instance I have a sprinter and dodge 2500, the dodge is a 2009 Cummins the same motor in a newer model I think 2011 or 12 has the def a filter, these filters don’t save the environment I actually think it does the opposite. Once out of warranty, I don’t see a reason not do a full delete, computer tune and ad a sprinter screen so you can at least monitor temps and pressure and I believe they may also be able to clear trouble codes but not sure on the new ones I have a 2011 sprinter.

Why anyone would purchase a German vehicle is beyond me???
@travsformation1
@travsformation1 3 года назад
Thanks for sharing! I own one too (2020, 316 4cycl) and (mostly) share your opinions on the Sprinter. The driving position and visibility are fenomenal, it drives like a dream and the 4x4 capabilities are outstanding for a van (not intended for anything crazy like rock climbing in Moab). As to the negatives, same experience here (and I'm in Europe, my van was built in Germany). Lots of QC issues (MBUX screen randomly switches off, ignition control malfunction, a software issue causing 4WD to engage in its own, issues engaging 4WD, loud clunking coming from the transfer case after engaging 4WD, several different sensor issues, etc), bad customer service, unsatisfactory repair jobs... In my experience, it's far from a reliable van (7 visits to MB dealers in 9k miles), which is very disappointing considering how much it costs. Although overall, I'm inclined to say the pros outweigh the cons, I live in the van full-time and need something reliable, which unfortunately, isn't the case. I've been touring Europe this summer and over the past month, I've had to visit a dealer every 600 miles. Repairs are covered under the warranty but... It's a hassle when you're on the road and have to leave the van at MB. And the warranty only covers me in the European Union so I'm not inclined to travel overseas at the moment because I don't feel confident I can rely on the van not failing and leading to a pricey repair I'll have to pay for myself. Which once again, shouldn't be the case after paying almost 70k for a van... So if I could go back in time...no, I would NOT buy it again...(or any MB vehicle for that matter). It's about how the company conducts itself and treats its customers. Sorry for the rant. I'm just "a bit" disappointed with the purchase... Aching to go on some more adventurous trips but afraid the Sprinter will leave me stranded somewhere where a tow truck can't reach me 😅
@GayeNRobert
@GayeNRobert 3 года назад
Hi Trav - no worries on the rant - agree with much of your thought process and totally understand how the reliability issues mess with your full-time travel plans. For us, I'm not sure there is anything better but with that Mercedes was as good as I thought they were. Have a great time full-timing - we aren't full-time on the Sprinter but we do travel full-time without a house. About 5 months on the Sprinter. Thanks for your comment and enjoy #vanlife!
@travsformation1
@travsformation1 3 года назад
@@GayeNRobert Thanks! Hopefully I can get the main issue fixed soon (defective or damaged t-case) and the others ironed out and enjoy the van problem-free... As to some of the other things you mentioned in your review, I can't attest to the lane assist issues because it's a feature I intentionally stayed clear of. ✌️😄 The crosswind assist has rarely come on, but when it has it's been appreciated and (so far) has given me no reason to complain. The active brake assist occasionally beeps for no reason (it mistakes a shadow/reflection for a person?) but has yet to slam on the brakes so I have no complaints. (Maybe a software update can fix that for you? Make sure to ask. I've found that there are tons of updates to install whenever I take it in but they only install ones related to problems you actually have and leave the rest untouched, so it might be worth asking). My only grievance with it is that it's right where I plan to install the winch and on this side of the pond MB won't let you disable it so my outfitter is going to have to relocate it somewhere where it will still work as intended. Pedal lag isn't usually an issue for me (I'm generally a alight-footed driver) but has annoyed me a few times when pulling into moving traffic or when off-roading and in need of immediate response. Overall it's a good van but I really didn't expect for a Mercedes (and one this price for that matter) to be so problematic. If I could go back in time I would have spent the money on an old MB Vario 4x4 with front and rear diff locks and zero electronics. They are relatively easy to find here in Europe (albeit overpriced) and the mechanics are simple and can be fixed anywhere in the world, without having to take it to a MB dealer. You lose most of the creature comforts and they are loud and slow, but for my intended use, that would have been fine, and they're reliable and easy to fix (for an over-engineered MB...) They equip rock-solid engines too that aren't as delicate as our modern Bluetec ones, which I've discovered can't be driven in most of Africa without disabling Adblue, the DPF and adding a fuel pre-filter. And even so, from Senegal downward fuel quality is too low for such a "delicate" engine. But for Europe, N. America and Oceania the Sprinter is a great van... When it works as intended 😅😜 I'm just shocked at how many of the issues I'm having are documented in online forums as far back as 2015... And still haven't been addressed. I guess it's cheaper for MB to fix per-unit issues as they arise than to slow down/halt production, re-engineer, discard stock of already-built parts, etc. Most companies work like that nowadays but it feels plain wrong for a brand that markets itself as premium (and charges accordingly) to pull that kind of stuff, and so blatantly. Sometimes I feel like I'm driving a beta, pre-production version, not yet for to be commercialized... 😂 Overall it feels disrespectful towards buyers, whose time and troubles (caused by malfunctions easily avoidable by doing proper testing and QC before beginning production) they seem to completely disregard. But sadly, it seems like that's the general direction the market is taking... I reckon this is the last new vehicle I'll be buying--tried, tested and proven over time is the way to go for me. Good thing this van maintains its resale value so well (especially here in Europe where all new Sprinters will equip a 1.9L 4cyl from now on, with low-range no longer being an option). I'll enjoy it while still under warranty and move on to something else. Maybe a Unimog? I wish! 😂 Anyway, sorry for another rant. Once I get going on this subject it seems like I can't get myself to shut up 😅😂 Enjoy your Sprinter and travels and I hope it doesn't give you any grief!

A good and fair assessment, thanks for sharing. We have a gas 170 that we got back in April and I agree with many of your negatives and your perspective of Mercedes. It's not even a dealer issue for me, it's really a Mercedes company issue from my perspective. My dealer was pretty good to work with. I actually felt sorry for them having to deal with all the recalls and availability of options, production problems, delayed emissions approval, etc. Mercedes just appears to be a very poorly run car company, at least in the way the serve the US market. We had a couple VW's in the last 10 years and they were similar, so maybe it's a German things. I hate to stereotype, but I've found that the German companies make vehicles that are very satisfying when they work, but you should just expect a lot more problems compared to a ford, honda, etc. The crosswind assist and lane keeping are a complete joke and unsafe. I assume some of this is because we're talking about a commercial van and individuals/RV builders are not their target market. All that said, demand for Sprinters is sky high, so I guess Mercedes doesn't care to spend time fixing stuff and is just focusing on production volume with quality/engineering be damned. If there was any other option that would work from what I wanted in a camper, I would have gone another route, but the sprinter was the best of the bad options. Like you, I really do like the van overall, but Mercedes as a company is abysmal.

Spot on! I own a 2020 4x4 316 Sprinter with 9k miles on it and have had to take it to be serviced 7 times so far for a number of different issues, especially 4x4-related (t-case). It's discouraging to search online and find that many of these issues have been present since 2015 and have never been addressed. And as you mention, it's MB I take issue with, the way they run the company, deal with issues (or fail to do so), how their service network works, the treatment we get as commercial vehicle customers, etc. Aside from the issues it's a great vehicle to drive but... Great video. I own a 2018 Sprinter, 170, 4X4. In the first 35,000 miles: 1. Park-neutral safety switch failed (won't start) 2. Front differential loose on the sub-frame - 3 visits to the dealer to solve and 3 months 3. Left front CV joint failed 4. Glow plug module, failed 5. Wiring problem that took 3 visits to dealer to track down 6. DEF leak near SCR 7. Alternator failed 8. Right front CV joint failed And the closest dealer is a 6-hour drive one way! I have some 10,000 of those first 35,000 miles just going to dealers. And for those of you in the SW USA. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go to Albuquerque MB. I wouldn't let them work on my lawnmower. Also had to deal with MB USA in Atlanta... MB, as a company, is terrible. Far better luck with Ford and certainly Toyota. "Mercedes, the best, or nothing!" Take nothing if you have a choice. I just Did got my 2021 Sprinter 4x4. After first ride around farm I discovered that 4x4 is kind of joke. The power distribution instead of promissed 33% to front is more like 15%. I snow rear wheels spins and front wheels do not turn at all and rear slide off the road. Front kind of assist when driving on the road, but is useless even in deeper snow than couple of inches. Other issue is integrated frame, it is something like 2 mm thick. You cannot load all you see in campervans in this thin frame. So I am selling it and getting Iveco Daily 4x4 van. I am lucky that Sprinters sells in 1 hour now. Iveco Daily feels like Unimog compared to Sprinter and frame like railroad rail compared to 200l oil barrel metal on Sprinter. I haven't seen my present observations in any RU-vid video. It looks like after spending 60k EUR + taxes on Sprinter people do not wish to say they are not happy with their new expensive toy. Actualy Toy is what comes in mind after seeing Sprinter underbody and driveterrain.
@jehlers12
@jehlers12 2 года назад
So the reason the back tires spin in snow/ice, the situation you describe... It is because this is a fully 'open transfer case.' You have 1/3 power to the front, 2/3 to the back, this is true. However with a open transfer case, and in slick situations like snow/ice, it will send all the power to the 1 wheel that has no traction! It is a weak system. Mostly sufficient for what the van is, and it's no F150.

Hello! I'm about to pull the trigger to get a Sprinter 4x4 camper van but your review has made me hesitant and possibly consider Ford Transit AWD but I found a solution for the hesitation on the acceleration. Maybe you have heard of this already OWL VANS PEDAL CONTROL 2.0 LINK. Chad and Paul RU-vid channel shows how easy it was to fix. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n6BBCjhsbQs.html

Please don't hesitate... We still love the Sprinter van and have purchased another all wheel drive. We are willing to tolerate the dealership difficulties at times for a Sprinter van.

My take: Ford just came up with the Sprinter killer, the Transit Trail. Good luck if u can get one, for the next 2 years, 23, 24. I would not get a turbo Gasser, if traveling international, the non turbo is easier to repair and service. Do not know if ford has an international waranty. We Transit cult followera r waiting for the Transit Trail hybrid (it should be out in 2 years) ,

My 2019 4x4 diesel freightliner sprinter has lane assist and I don’t find it a problem. The warning sound can be a bit annoying but it doesn’t brake unless I really “charge” the line. And about the only time I’ve felt it brake was when I’ve been demonstrating to a friend how it works. I’ve also left mine in 4WD because my driveway is gravel and very steep and in 2WD it wants to spin out after I stop for traffic. In summer it spins in the gravel and in winter it spins on ice. Unlike my F250, my sprinter doesn’t “grab” and “ratchet” on dry pavement when in 4WD. All in all I love my sprinter but wish I didn’t have to drive it 350 miles to the dealer in Anchorage.

boat or sprinter? since we plan on "roaming" the european land mass in the very near future, this is the question my wife and I always discuss. boat because we like european waterways. then there's the MB sprinter van. After much much discussions and deliberation, we think we are going with the van. Land vehicle, almost sure less to maintain vs boat and more economical to operate. Its relatively priced better than a boat we had in mind and basically year round use too, possible with a boat, but doubtful it will be fun in european winter unlike a van... maybe?!. Thank you for your insight. this video will help us further decide on with route to take... land or water...
@GayeNRobert
@GayeNRobert 2 года назад
Melly Many I agree with the dilemma for sure! We love being on the boat!!! However the van for us is more practical, versitile, etc... But we are not giving up our boat either! I would also love to be able to sail the world but don't have it in me...Wish you the best in your decision making let us know what you end up with.

God I hate lane assist. I wish it would just stay off. As for loner cars I got a loner for my recall work that was done for a few days. Probly depends on the dealer. 🤷‍♂️
@GayeNRobert
@GayeNRobert 3 года назад
Hi Ghillieland, agreed, probably depends on the dealer for the loaner car. The 3 dealers we dealt with did not but good to hear others do. Yes! Totally wish we could keep the lane assist off. I love new technology but it gets scary at times when it shouldn't even activate. Oh wells, fairly easy to turn off I guess. Have a great day!

@GayeNRobert
@GayeNRobert 3 года назад
Hi Joanne, Thanks for your comment. Agreed, all choices have issues. I think just maintenance service is totally fine even if you can't do it yourself. Oil changes, fuel filter, etc can all be done by a local mechanic. Just like all dealers, if you take it in for service - it'll be expensive. The bigger issue is after warranty and you need a repair, etc - many times the mechanic needs a Mercedes diagnostic computer to reset codes etc - so then you are reliant on the MB dealer. If no issues after warranty (we have the 100k 5 years warranty), then really no problems finding normal service. Hope that answers your question. Like you stated, all choices have potential issues. Thanks again and have a great weekend!

Thank you for the review. Good to hear from an actual user not trying to sell something. I hear you on the service center experience. In general I had various bad experiences with authorized dealers myself and this is across different brands. Have you tried to google independent garages specializing in Sprinters? We here in Denver, CO have an independent garage that even Mercedes sends challenging jobs to. We have a 2006 Dodge Sprinter back from when it was Daimler Chrysler. Last year we rented a 2021 RV on a Ford E3500 chassis. The driving experience was by no means comparable to the sprinter. Ok I know that it is not comparing the same types of chassis.

It is a misconception that German vehicles (especially Mercedes) are automatically high quality. My experience has been the exact opposite. The Germans tend to over-engineered and over-complicate everything and that leads to reliability problems. Also, the diesel emissions systems in the Sprinter is a maint nightmare. I plan to go with the 3.5 turbo Ford Transit when I'm ready to have my van built. Ford has their issues too, but at least there are Ford dealers everywhere so you will never have to wait for service and it will be 1/3 of the cost.
@GayeNRobert

@Radical Ed These days, I think vehicle longevity depends more on how well it's maintained than anything else. There are lots of 3.5 ecoboost engines on the road with over 300,000 miles on them. If meticulously maintained, they can last a long time...not as long as a diesel (excluding the diesel emissions system), but long enough to carry me thru the rest of my life.
