I doubt the spurs want Ayton unless it's for next to nothing. The whole league knows Ayton *could* be a 20/10 night in and night out kind of dude but the whole league also knows you can't trust him to stay focused and consistent over time, or "out of his own way" like you put it. Maybe it's just a maturity thing he needs to overcome, but he does need to overcome it in order to have any real value to a contender or aspiring contender. Maybe pop ripping him a new asshole is exactly what Ayton needs but pop is also too damn old to want to deal with extra bullshit so personally I don't think the spurs want him enough, and I think Portland wants him to increase his value a little from where he is now before they flip him...

Please don't talk about Ayton. No one wants a player like that on their team. The fact that you spent that last half of this piece trying to make a case for him says enough. There are too many "IF's" with that guy.

I have being seem in many places saying that Spurs don't wanna hit the cap space, and they are pretty close to it, I think for this season this is it... and as Spurs fan, I think it's pretty good as it is... I don't believe that Lauri would make the team a title contender right away, so it's better wait and grom up the team step by step, Sohan and Wemby are improving fast, Vessel is yet to hit his technical peak. I do believe that this team has a lot to show yet... no need to rush things...

Ayton, so far, hasn't shown that his attitude isn't a good fit for the Spurs. Also, he wanted more touches when he was with the Suns. He won't be getting that with Wemby on the Spurs.

I disagree on Sochan. He would have been VERY GOOD if Pop wasn't using him at the PG for two months to tank and get two lottery picks this last draft. VW-Sochan-Barnes-Castle-CP3 is going to be a great lineup and a "D" juggernaut. Spurs aren't going after Lauri Markk b/c Ainge still thinks he can get 4 first round picks for him. Spurs are not stupid like the Wolves. Spurs will wait for all-stars to come to them after the '24-'25 season when VW will be seen as "the best player on the planet".

If your a Spurs Content fan then I would agree with you the Most sensible trade would be to swap Deandre Ayton for Zach Collins BUT THE Blazer would not want him back and I think he would be a better option than Lauri Markkannen. I don't see the Spurs giving up picks to Acquire Deandre Ayton But I Guess we could part with often Injured Charles Bassey (I Love him) and Keldon Johnson and a 2nd round pick in 2025.I Believe He can play well Behind Victor Webanyama.

I would believe more in the Spurs targeting Patrick Williams or Cameron Johnson, because the asking price isn't through the roof, they'd fit well while answering needs and they make you win more games, they also don't break the bank. Even if the Spurs wanted Ayton it would take Devin Vassell just salary wise for the trade to work, plus the fit is terrible next to Victor Wembanyama. That's an expensive backup center! Spurs won't do the Markkanen trade either because they've initially asked for Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan and three 1st round picks in return. Which is pretty much what the Celtics would ask for Jaylen Brown if they were rebuilding or even the range of assets that the Hawks have wanted for Trae Young. The Jazz are just fishing for desperate teams like the Warriors and the Spurs front office is well aware. They either want one star level player and three 1st round picks for Markkanen or one player and four 1st round picks, that's the minimum.

Adding too much pieces right now might lessen the effectiveness that CP3 will bring to the table.. I do think that Keldon should go because of his attitude last season. He's too expensive to come out of the bench and show attitudes. Manu still produced a lot as bench player even at old age before he retired.

jazz have incentive to trade lMarkennan specifically to spurs. jazz is competing for the worst record this year for 2025 draft. Trading LM to spurs pretty much guarantees jazz finish worse than spurs... and maybe vice versa. 2025 picks and lottery placement will be crucial next year.

As a suns fan who as of now had “prime” ayton. Y’all don’t want him trust me the only reason I can respect him is bc of his game winning alley oop but other than that all he’s gonna bring you is mid inside scoring, bad rebounding for his size, and bad defense for his size too. Also idk if ayton would get along with cp3 anymore

Ayton for 34M$ per season to get a center as Wemby is much better in this position ? Completely nosense... (even not speaking about the Ayton behavior on the court). Ideally, to stepup, the Spurs needs a PF with good defense and high percentage at 3 (to give Wemby space in the paint) or a very high skilled SF (such as Durant) who can shoot 3. The Spurs also need some good rotation players in the frontcourt (Center and Power Forward) which is not the case today. PG is ok this year with Castle (to be developped) and Paul. SG is ok this year with Vassel and Branham. SF is ok this year with Barnes and Johnson. PF is ok this year with Sochan but no rotation (only Mamu if he comes back. Hope so because he did good job to fill in this lack in April 2024). Center is more than ok with Wemby but the backup (Collins) doesn't match the way San Antonio is playing. The Spurs needs a old vet who is rim protector (very good defense and catch rebonds) to play less than 20mn per game when Wemby out. Zach Collins should be traded.
