I own the FRN Chaparral and was lucky enough to grab it before the price bump. Honestly it's one of my favorite Spydercos just because how thin and SHARP it is. But man, that back lock is not fun to disengage.

Great Review , I have both I’m a little partial to the Lil Native for my current EDC. It’s more robust for work and outdoor task.

The Chaparral really appeals to me because of the blade thinness and sturdy steel. My favorite travel knife has been an Opinel no. 8, which is light and also has a thin blade, a great slicer. Good review - you've convinced me to look into the Chaparral. Looks solid, nice looking and, really, quite affordable for what you're getting. Thank you.

I like your categorization quite a bit, it's nice to have all of those qualities discussed separately. Maybe consider adding marks to the timeline for each category?

Good review, at some point I'd like to get a Chaparral with the Carbon Fiber for the Gentleman's carry/super slicer stuff and either a Lil Native or Para 3 for the hard use stuff. For the ultra light carry I use a zdp Dragonfly 2, an exceptionally good Knife.

Hey dude another great vid! Just subscribed. The Frn Chaparral has really been tugging at my wallet since it came out and I may have to get one while I still can before these price increases really sink in at every retailer. The Lil Native just seems a little overpriced to me from the get go considering you can get para 2’s and 3’s for around $110 still, amongst a bunch of other great options. I think it will be a cool platform for some sprint runs but it’s current price for what you get seems a bit extreme to me. Spyderco has been my favorite knife company for a long time but I’m starting to get a little worried about what I’m seeing from them overall lately with pricing especially! Anyways! Rant over haha rock on keep up the good work!

Two great knives, but Chaparral for me.

I would love to have them both of course. "Fallshutty" is my favorite adjective! Great video as always. I really love thin, slim knives. I have the Boker Plus FR in Carbon Fiber on order. I love Brad Zinker designs. FR vs. Urban Trapper?
@SliceyDicey

I do really like the looks of the FR blade but the Urban Trapper has never appealed to me.

Great video ... The Chaparral at the light weight price is a Delica killer it's a better knife and only $12 more in price ... Also the comparison to me as a consumer was a little unfair given the two different price points ... I use the $100 mark and we have $87 against $113 ... Thanks ...

Owned both. I prefer cts xhp but I like the overall thicker blade + compression lock on lil native. It's also smaller and less scary when I use it for utility in public.

Excellent review as always! Would the result have been the same with the lil native rex 45 sprint run ..? 🤔

One of the best reviews I've seen of both knives. That being said, a more apt (if longer) headline might have been, "These 2 do NOT compete with each other!" ... especially after learning both are quality knives. The circumstances and intended uses are paramount here. Lil Native (and Native) for utility since they feel (and are) beefier. Confidence inspiring, call it. Chaparral for slicing and such and fits-skinny-in-pants. Neither "needs" to be "better" than the other, and I feel that should be emphasized in reviews. I think you excellently did that in the review, but the headline does them both a disservice.

I really want the chaparral. I already have the dragonfly 2..

It’s a thin blade!! Even when you use the forward finger Choil the blade is plenty big enough.

Stick with the DF2. It’s back lock feels night end day better than the chaparral’s

Preproto how do you like your olight? Im getting away from streamlight because their tail caps are highly unreliable. I’m looking into getting maybe a Fenix or Olight.

I have the Chaparral Raffir Noble as my gentlemans carry... I don't know of any other (but I'm sure they are out there) production knife that uses the Raffir scales... A little bit slippery but then it's a gentleman carry, not a tactical knife... It's the sharpest factory knife I carry... One other little thing I like is that the Spyder on the Chaparral looks like it is 3D etched... Nice detail... My everyday carry is the Native 5 lightweight so I don't see a need for the Lil one...

I have the Lil Native. I love its stonewash finish better than the satin finish of the Chaparral Light. But that is just my personal preference.

When you started talking about the sliciest (what's the spelling on this one?) thing that ever sliced a thing I was thinking "oh boy, this guy needs to try Opinel No.06". Glad you pulled it out. I am a sucker for sliceiness and lightweight and so Opinel 6 became the meassure of all things (knives) for me. Even though it lacks some features, like super steel and ease of opening and is susceptible to swelling with moisture, it still is my favourite edc knife.
@SliceyDicey
@SliceyDicey 5 лет назад
Shout out to another No.06 lover! The 8 gets all the love around here, it seems!
@Lumpy_Peter
@Lumpy_Peter 5 лет назад
Agreed. That's why I was so happy seeing you pulling out No.06. It is not getting the attention it deserves IMHO. It's a lightsaber. Although I was suspecting you got it wrong as Chaparral's blade looks so tiny in comparison with that allready rather small blade onNo.06. But I can understand the popularity of No.08 as it is more of a allarounder: excellent ergos, very usable blade length and still somehow pocketable. Would take it over No.06 if I was going to spend a week in the woods.

I misspoke in the video. That was actually a No.07. I have too many Opinels and grabbed the wrong one lol.

Not sure if you ever tried the cold steel hold out 3 in xhp. I always called it a delica killer cause of the xhp steel and its slightly smaller and thinner than the delica but ergos were just as good and sliced so much better. Unfortunately cant find them anymore. Xhp is for sure my favorite steel. May have to pick up the chaparral

olmmedic 20cv is a comparable substitute for xhp to me its just as good, but I agree xhp is one of the best

It always seems like Spyderco has a comically small blade edge compared to handle size.

Ironically I have both of these. I’ve had the Chapparal FRN since it came out, first production run, and I just picked up the Little Native yesterday at Cabela’s. I really, really, like the Little Native. I would absolutely 100% agree that it’s basically a straight tie between the two. The Chapparal is the better cutter and a bit more gentleman-like, the Little Native is, to me, a very small heavy-duty EDC. I paid $140 for the Little Native, which I consider very steep, but it’s a very solid knife and I have no regrets about buying it. It’s extremely solid, good cutter, and just a cool, chunky little pocket knife. Both are excellent.

the blade of the Lil Native makes no sense to me... S30v will chip on any duty that requires a thicker blade stock,... not to mention the tip is too thin for tough duty. That Lil Native blade shape is more suited to a tougher steel like Cruwear, LC200N, Magnacut, etc, and even then it needs a thicker tip.

0:28 Still feels weird to say 3 years ago. Anyways, I wouldn't go with either of them, I'd go with the pm2 😆. Seriously though, I think out of these two the native is better.

I understand that the Taiwan facility makes quality but why would a knife which is originated from an American company cost more after being made in Taiwan. .? That makes no sense to me are we talking about higher prices material or identical knives but one costs more cause Taiwan? Lol I'm confused 😂
@edunain
@edunain 4 года назад
Nope.... I love both knives... But I am sorry.... The chaparral is just better slicer... If you need a hard use blade, get a full size blade. Lil native is cool but not near the chaparrals quality
