This is an “on my mind” discussion video where I talk about the different clip options for the Para 3 and PM2. I also talk about a clip I got from an eBay called blades4sale, and the terrible experience I had with that.
Just bought mxg for my k390 pm2 and fir my light native 5 s90v. Watched a bunch of content but ur vid helped pull the trigger, really happy with performance and esthetic. Thx bro for all the great content!
I have used both the Lynch and MXG Gear Deep carry Clips. In my experience, the ramp(angle) of how the end of the Lynch Deep Carry Clip sits on the actual scale of the knife is a bit too angular/sharp, combined with the fact that the Lynch Clip is made thinner and is more narrow which causes it to flex sideways. These issues cause the Lynch Deep Carry Clip to more easily/noticeably scratch titanium scales!!! On the other hand the MXG Gear Deep Carry Clip is made thicker and wider causing it to have much less flex, it also has a sweep/curve to the end of the clip where it contacts the scale of the knife. So the MXG Gear Clip tends to more gently sit on top of titanium scales and won't scratch those titanium scales nearly as much as the more angular/flexible Lynch Clip!!!
Totally agree. Thank InThePocket and you for pointing out how to the Lynch clip snobs how overrated Lynch clip is with its sharp edges and thin flimsy material. I don't understand why so many prefer them over MXG which is far better and more selections are available. I think the Lynch followers just like the name because it's a verb to hang somebody. Let's face it, many knife enthusiasts have a bloodlust.
I thought I needed a deep carry clip but a shaman I got came with one and it created a total hotspot when flicking open the knife. It gave me appreciation for the stock spyderco clip! I’d like if it sat deeper in the pocket but I think their design is great and comfortable for me on my para 3, manix 2, and shaman.
100% agree with you. The MXG just has an organic, hourglass shape that just fits the aesthetics of the Para3 perfectly. The short model with the cut-out for the lanyard hole sits super high and both looks and works great.
Love this video, thanks man. Really helped me decide on a good aftermarket clip to go with. I’m getting the MXG for my para 3. I can’t use the stock clip that the knife comes with, the retention it too strong for my liking. Feels like my pocket is going to rip off when I pull out my knife lol..
Wanted the MXG clip. The clip is $26 (bronze) and they wanted to charge me $42 for shipping! (overseas). I recommended a thorough mental assessment. First and last visit to that hyena outlet!
Totally agree with you on the stock clip. I hated how high it makes the para 3 sit when I first got it because I was worried people would notice. Ordered a lynch clip straight away. The lynch clip carries well. But I have 2 gripes. 1st, the retention is significantly weaker. 2nd, there is a very bad hot spot on my palm nearest my pinky when I’m cutting harder cardboard ( I’m a furniture mover and I use my knives for work). When I put the stock clip back on, the retention was strong just the way I like it and I can cut stuff all day without hot spots. As per people noticing my knife? Truth be told, only other knife guys will actually spot your knife. Non-knife people will never notice it even if you think it is too obvious.
Not that it matters, but why would you be worried about people spotting your knife in your profession? Seems to me like it would be a reasonable tool of the trade in anyone’s eyes and nobody would think anything of it. I do understand not wanting it noticed in other situations though
@@Bisley1 great point. It’s just a tool. But because knives in general have a reputation of being weapons (even though they are usually not), a lot of people out in public have raised eyebrows on occasions when I had to whip is out in front of them to cut something, even though it is lawfully just in the context of doing my job. I guess they would worry less if it was a stanley knife that I pulled out of my pocket. It’s amazing how ignorance can lead to negative biases in perception. I am fully aware that it makes people uncomfortable. But that paranoia also led me to believe that they’d know exactly what it is if they can even see just a bit of the handle scales jutting out of my pocket. I just want to stay subtle about it. I guess that’s what gave rise to this obsession amongst knife guys for deep carry clips. It took me a while to break out of the paranoia.
Actually gotten some of the three screw for that para military and trying to put the screws in no access through the circular hole just a rip off. A+ Lynch the way to go Good video
Thanks for putting this video out! I've been trying to decide which clip to buy for my Para 3's and a few of my other Spydercos, Been thinking of going with the Lynch clips, but they always seem to be sold out, at least on the ones I was looking at anyway.. Now you've convinced me to go with the MXG.
Tim Gannon MXG are great to deal with too. Our Aussie Spyderco group has done multiple bulk orders from them. Super quick postage and they always have stock. (Orders were over $1000 worth).
They are both great clips, and both companies seem to be well run. Lynch fans seem to believe mxg stole his idea, but I don’t know enough to make any accusations or judgments, so I just give my pragmatic, objective evaluation.
InThePocket Wonder if they’d do a (cheaper) stainless steel line. I’d get more if they did. Might be more durable too. Can’t coat to much if BM give them away or sell them for a few bucks.
Yeah I noticed that too about the Lynch clips. They’re always sold out it seems. But MXG is in full stock and has way more selection to choose from. Different styles n finishes, a lot of cool options so I really like that.
I'm team MXG. Have 4 of them compared to 1 Lynch. It comes to to some nit-picky stuff for me. Both are great and both sell out. So usually comes down to whats available. Man I was close to ordering from that guy, but happen to scroll down and see his crazy wait times.
Completely agree, I like the Lynch clip and the MXG for me is even better. I dont care how much knife sticks out of my pocket either, just as long as it does its job.
Hey Kenny, Para 3 is my daily edc. I got both the deep and the delica clip from MXG. I actually prefer the delica clip as it just shows a bit of the knife in the pocket. Got the idea from BBB....
The Lynch Para 3 clip has been improved since this video. Very nice for a deep carry. The stock clip is better thought out than originally thought, I’ve found it very functional. I like the Spyderco stock clip just as well as the Lynch deep pocket. The stock clip frees up pocket space if not concerned about optics. The Lynch clip is highly polished to be consistent with Para 3 fasteners.
I have been using Lynch clips on most of my Spyderco knives. His customer service is second to none. He has never given me a reason to try another clip.
I can understand that... I have no experience with either companies customer service, but hear good things about both. Honestly, mxg or Lynch, either way I’m happy. Personally, however, I do slightly prefer the mxg. Nothing against the Lynch...
@@beeochg4 contact him directly using the email address on his site. I have never had to wait for a clip. If you go through a placeike Blade HQ that are always sold out. You have to contact him directly.
Mike Likes Knives thanks man yeah I’ll try that then cause on Blade HQ or on his store’s site it says sold out. So maybe reaching out to him I can order one
I know the pain of ordering on eBay. I’ve bought a few junk products before. I just bought a para 3 that was stated as never carried yet it had lint in the screws and inside the knife. The blade was in new like shape so I’m thinking do I give a bad review or not cause it could be lint from laying around and I can’t really prove it was carried but yeah I don’t feel he was 1000% honest.
I’ll admit when I bought my para 3 I hated the pocket clip but over time I started to like it however I did buy a deep carry clip so it’s not to bad or anything it’s just because I’m customizing the crap out of this knife
I could go on and on about pocket clips, most of it bad! I annoys me when a pocket clip isn't in the optimum position to accommodate a lanyard hole. Right now I'm waiting for MXG to restock Shaman clips, the stock clip isn't bad, but....!
Yeah, I get it... I was looking at those clips for the shaman, and I think I will eventually get one, although I don’t hate the stock clip on that knife either.
I ordered a deep carry clip for my CRKT pilar from blades4sale. Order set in January and didn't get my clip until April... And dude it was so rugged. The edges of the titanium are not finished at all. It's almost sharper than the stock sharpening of CRKT blade haha Never ordering one of those again. But I will get a lynch clip for my new para3 with maxamet.
Ugh🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ this guy’s operation needs to get shut... what a POS. Lol gotta love factory edges, and the horrible finish of those clips. It worth the money and wait man... every time.
Have a another sip... Really liked this vid. Your casual style, not telling me to slam that like button blah blah blah. Well done Sir. Subscribed now :) PM2 owner.
Cool video, I hadn't seen one like this yet. The Lynch clip sits lower on the para 3 than the PM2, not really a fair comparison. I'm a fellow para 3 lover (down to 5 atm haha), and have found that the para 3 specific Lynch clips are the best (the ones that cut around the lanyard hole); they have a lot better ramp and go in out of the pocket with ease. Also, Casey Lynch is an awesome guy to deal with and it kind of irritates me that MXG ripped off his design.
BirdLaw 101 Thanks bud. Yeah man, it’s hard not to love that knife. I wasn’t really bringing the pm2 in for comparison, I just didn’t have my Lynch clipped Para3. I haven’t tried that cut away Lynch clip, but I worry about that thin part at the top... that it’s going to dig in ergos wise, and it will be more susceptible to bending. I don’t know anything about mxg stealing his design. They look similar, but so do most loop over deep carry clips, and I can’t really attest to Casey Lynch on a personal level, since I haven’t really felt with either company past using they’re clips.
That is the St. Nick’s exclusive, and they are pretty hard to find. If you do find them, they are priced extremely high. St. Nick’s has been coming out with some different models this year too, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get on their mailing list. I’m sure you could dye them as well, it you might have to play with different colors and times to get the right color.
That is guy I was just dealing with on etsy I looked week later to see if any activity and nothing said will be atleast 3 months before I get, but his products are best on market. Glad I was like nope, refund please.
Spyderco knives are not cheap , and for the money it would be nice if they would send you a deep clip if you called and asked , like Benchmade does . But Nooo , I have to spend another $25 - $35 on an aftermarket clip , so now an already expensive knife becomes retardedly overpriced , and thats the reason I haven't bought a new Spyderco in about 2 years . Today on Amazon a stock black g10 , s30v Para 2 is $132.59 plus $30 for the clip = $163.59 , and right now , the grey g10 , 20cv Griptilian is $165.75 , WOW I'll take the Grip all day , but hey , to each their own .
It would be nice if spyderco would send us a HI-VIZ pocket clip. I have to always spend an extra 35 dollars before I can even carry a spyderco because it comes with knife shame and I carry hi-viz and proud.
Jordan I wish they just offered some options... hi-viz or not... just offer some deep carry or something. They just generally just have the spoon or the wire, and I wish they had wire on more stuff. I’m not really a hi viz guy, personally, but I can do it in some cases, like my Chaves for instance, and I have that anodized mxg I did acid green. I like it when it’s done right
@@inthepocket7405 if people want to hide their knives, then that is fine but I have a problem when people act like everyone should have knife shame with them. If hiding your knife is fashionable then fine call it a fashion but it is not a necessity to hide your knife. People sit there and cry about how companies do not recognize the knife shame fashion, then they act like the company is responsible for the money they spend on their knife shame.
@@inthepocket7405 I'm not really accusing you specifically for pushing the knife shame but it is definitely a observable fashion throughout the knife review community.
Sharp_thinking is a trans man who has penis envy and doesn't like the para 3 because the 3" blade is the same size as his clit.... Get yourself a para 3... you'll dig it
I love my mxggear clips for my 2 Manix 2s and my Yojimbo. I hate the original clip. Not bc it sticks up high in pocket idc about that. It’s just fugly. In hand I really have no issues with my mxggear plus it’s titanium
If you are ever in the woods put your knife in your pocket . The branches from bushes will grab the pocket clip and out comes your knife . I lost a bm that I had for 15 years like that .
endless delays and numerous follow-ups, the ultra long wait built up so much anticipation... when it finally showed up it looked so bad, looks like product of some special ed machine class project LMFAOOOOO, it's a professional trolling job from the dude who made it.
@@macmiddlebrooks1and maybe a half hour- an hour of time to polish and flame or electric anodize the metal if you want a color finish. At that point you can also put on a much more custom finish, something that would cost $100 if you bought it like that. $20 and some RU-vid research you will have the most banging pocket clip
