I've had this guy on my back burner for ages. I really like how it looks. Grey G10 is great. This gets overlooked because it really does fall in that middle spot, where it's a clear step up from the tenacious, but for 35 more, you can get the para 3 lightweight with Bd1n, which is a noticeably higher performing steel than the bd1. It's a good one for anyone drawing a hard line at the 75$ mark. Thanks for giving this knife some of the real exposure that it sorely needs.

I tend to think of this as the Gentleman's EDC of the Spyderco budget knives - something about the patterned G10. Wouldn't look outta place being removed from the pocket of a pair of dress slacks.

Probably already suggested, I use a plastic body trim tool from Harbor Freight, great inexpensive tool for the lanyard barrel. Won’t scratch the knife or wallet. Thanks Complex, I get excited when I see a knife I actually own, still playing around in tier 2-3.

I think spyderco really thrives in the 100-250 market. Except for a few select examples I’m not sure they can compete in the sub $100 price point anymore.
@Cadwallader38
@Cadwallader38 2 года назад
I think if they used bd1n or even vg10 on the budget models (tenacious family and others) they could be extremely competitive in that range. BD1N is their own steel and it performs better than people give it credit for I wish they would replace all their 8cr and BD1 with it.

Nice review MC as always 👍🏻 I think another semi-budget entry into the Spyderco world in the same steel would be the base Manix 2 LW. Love mine…got it on the secondary market in like new condition for $50

I’m new to Spyderco, so I’ll take a dip in the budget side first. How does this compare to the Tenacious specifically? Great vid....
@Corbs627
@Corbs627 3 года назад
Bite the bullet and go straight for a manix 2, shaman, Sage 5, PM2 or Kapara. I think you’ll be happier with something in the 100-200 range. for “budget” under 100 I would probably say the chaparral lightweight is one of their best values. Byrd Raven 2 (spyderco budget brand) is also regarded as one of the better budget spydercos.
@EDCandLace
@EDCandLace 3 года назад
100% Manix 2 easily my fav EDC period. I have a bunch of them in S90v, S110v, M4, M390 and two in Maxamet.. IMHO it's the single finest EDC spyderco makes and one of the best period. As a working knife one that is used and not just carried its hard to beat a Manix 2 LW in M390 or S90v.
@Corbs627
@Corbs627 3 года назад
@@EDCandLace as long as you don’t mind it being a bit of a pocket hog it is one of the better values in their lineup for sure.

why is the spyderco name drawn on a circular arc that doesn't appear to center on anything meaningful on the blade?
@mrmmmok
@mrmmmok 3 года назад
Find a used Tenacious for sub $40 and use it to death is money better spent than $75 Polestar. For a sub $75 knife, CJRB and Civivi are better buys over Polestar. That puts Polestar in a weird spot and might only be for folks who MUST have a Spyderco in this price range. At $75, save another $25 and find a used Para 3 that you'll pass down to your kids.

BD1 (SS) liner lock made in China.....for $73....think I'll pass. Get a Rat1 in D2 if you can find one. Still a liner lock, but better knife at half the price.

@@daveyboy6985I know China can make high quality anything if the money is right. I own a couple civivis, I realize that there's no avoiding sending cash their way in my daily life. But if I have the choice between something 10-20 dollars more with the same quality from somewhere else, i'll go there first. If Civivi moved to Taiwan and had to charge $20 bucks more a knife, i'd pay it.

@@CKshouta very true, same as almost every knife or anything. Don't get me wrong, I also do like some Cold Steel knives, I own a few, but they are not the end all be all. In my opinion there is not such a thing as a perfect knife, it all depends upon someone's preferences, needs and situation.
