I honestly had a problem with that Ox in Metropolis than the trolley, and trolley gave me Nam flashbacks once.

I didn't realize how much PTSD I had from some of these challenges until I watched this video...

Hunter's popcorn Crystal collect was the most annoying for me

I don't get this: the infamous "Trouble with the trolley, eh?" line was annoying when the game first came out, and now it's become something of a meme in today's culture.

The alchemist one caused me such frustration and rage when i was a child. Also the one after it when you had to headbash the earthshapers when hunter shot them with his bow. Also great video Miharu! Always love your content.

Where is secret agent??? I agree with most of those, but I actually loved the supercharge mission in fracture hills. There was the skill point for 3 laps of supercharge without stopping and I remember going on and on counting the laps x)

#5: Never had problems with this one to my recollection #4: I agree that the supercharge sucks and it does affect the challenges that use it. #3: Annoying and takes multiple attempts to get the pattern right. I agree with this one. #2: Definitely a massive pain and more so if you completed it the first time without the headbash, you need to do it again when you come back with the upgrade. #1: Tedious but compared to number 2, this isn't as bad.

I love the uncensored rants on some of these Orb Challenges! lol I agree these were all annoying as hell. Hopefully they will make them more bearable in the Spyro 2 remake.

I hope in the remake they add voice overs mid mini game for the Alchemist, just to emphasize how ludicrous and senile he is while walking around these massive boulder builder bois. It'll be both infuriating, and hilarious

The Pop-corn challenge is HELL in the Japanese version! I've made a let's play of that version of the game and omg...If you don't know, in the Japanese version they slowed down Spyro's charge! That's also a horrible situation during Hunter's challenge in Fracture Hills (you have to be PERFECT if you want to win) and the second Lava Lizard challenge in Skelos Badlands.

5. Honestly its not so much the idea of this challenge as much as it is the design of it. Sometimes its hard to predict which obstacles will suddenly appear. It doesn't help that the gears are scattered in so many branching paths. 4. Again, this is more to do with the fact that Insomaniac decided to ditch the ground arrows and just put the supercharge on the powerup gates, but yea I agree. Thank god they brought the arrows back in 3. 3. Truth be told I don't really have too much trouble with this challenge. I do get a screw up from time to time but other than that I'm usually too quick. lol 2. Bloody Alchemist should've gone to Specsavers. lol 1. Ooooooh definitely. Hunter, this challenge isn't even fair! You're a cheetah! You're far too fast for me! lol An annoying orb challenge for me would also be that Hunter paragliding challenge in Icy Speedway. Spyro gets dragged by his crotch (lol) and has to paraglide through 50 rings. Doesn't sound so bad right? Except the controls for paragliding are rather janky that you often miss rings because you were either too early or too late. Sly Cooper did paragliding better. Overall another good list Miharu! ^^

It’s funny. I like Skelos Badlands, but I despise the lava lizard challenge

I feel all the super charge challenges were easy, except for the pumpkin one I always screw up

My least favorite challenges involve the timed/hard to control power ups, flight, super charge, super flame, ice, flight PLUS super flame, etc

Getting the Supercharge skillpoint in Fracture Hills was so F***ing Annoying. Being on the last lap, and then an Earthshaper decides to smack you... *HA HA HA!*

And some of those challenges get pretty easy and much easier once you've gotten and unlocked the permanent superflame power up in Dragon shores by getting 100% & one of the games I completed 100% was under 2hrs & 30 minutes on the reignited trilogy & the thing that makes me rage is the glitches that happen

Tbh the trolley is easy once you get the feeling of it, and but THOSE STUPID GREEN BUGS ICEY GLACIER

Has everyone forgot that fact that if you don't have the headbash when you beat the alchemists challenge,It's basically a waste of effort?What with hunters challenge NEEDING the headbash.

Great video some of the challenges in this game are pretty tricky especially one of the skill points in fracture hills to where you have to complete three laps of supercharge I completed it on my first try before but I struggled with it at first and after I got used to playing this game I got better playing it

I LOVE catching the popcorn!! It's so much fun, especially if you've mastered the controls after playing it for over 15 years. It's super satisfying to win when you have at least 4 more than he does. As for that alchemist...yeah, no, that's my least favorite challenge in all of Spyro. HE'S RIGHT THERE!!! At least horn diving into and OBLITERATING the Earth Shapers makes you feel a whole lot better, ahaha.

Ah yes, this reminds me of why I always preferred Spyro 1 over Riptos Rage. Don’t get me wrong, I love Riptos Rage, but these bullshit challenges really frustrated the hell out of 8 year old me. Plus, I honestly liked the atmosphere, vibe, and simplicity of Spyro 1.

I warmed up to the crystal popcorn challenges; beating Hunter is always satisfying. But I definitely agree about the alchemist challenge though, the path finding made no sense and was super frustrating. Yet somehow they thought it was a great idea to implement the same challenge, slightly harder and TWICE in a row in Year of the Dragon. Meeeh... PS: I just realized your intro music is from Mystic Marsh! I adored that level. :)

I always liked the Breeze Harbour challenge. Lava lizards round 2 is memorizing the pattern so I'm not a huge fan of that. It's impossible until it's actually not that bad. Crystal Popcorn can be tedious but I guess I've played the game so many times it's gone easy for me. Last time I played I beat it on first try without problems. The most annoying ones for me has to be the Alchemist one and the Hunter mission after that.

I was right. Crystal popcorn was number one. Seriously screw that game! (Though I'll admit the first round wasn't so bad as the second round was...)

Oh yeah and I must say I feel like it's a missed opportunity whenever you did the trouble with the trolley a line and you didn't distort the audio and make super high pitch to make it sound super dank lmfao

I will forever hate the alchemist one more if I don't cheat in the super flame. Then again, that's because I love the popcorn minigame (your most hated is my favorite) but hey, I can see why you hate it. Also shout out to the spy in cloud temple. That one I couldn't do for years.

Also, I'm surprised there's no mention of that stealth mission in Cloud Temple.

It's amazing how I completely agree with your list and yet I still find that 3 of these 5 (Skelos Badlands, Fracture Hills and Magma Cone) are some of my favourite levels from the entire trilogy. Despite how infuriating these challenges can get there is something about those levels that really makes it fondly memorable to me, whether that be general gameplay, the aesthetic, or the music.

You are spot on with this list! I am so glad I'm not the only one who hated that crystal popcorn mission the most. The lava lizards one was the only reason I kept using the manual. I could never get the pattern down. Now I'm used to it. And oh my gosh, that damn Alchemist!!!!!!!! He's probably the real reason Insomniac put that superflame powerup at the end of the game. They knew how annoyed we were going to be. But I think I would add Bombo's mission from Scorch on there. When there's plenty of space to run around, it's easier at first. It's when he gets closer to the exit that's the most frustrating.

My top 5 least favorite Orb Challenges in Spyro 2? Well, here they are, although they're in no particular order (with the exception of number 1). Number 5: The mission in Mystic Marsh where you had to chase down four thieves to get some guy's "spark plugs" back. First of all, they don't look like traditional Spyro thieves; they look more like bipedal cats. Second, chasing them down is a HUGE pain, since many of the paths they go on involve some pretty tricky jumps. The fact that Mystic Marsh has fog in it just makes following the thieves even harder. Number 4: The ice hockey game in Colossus. Two words: Ice physics. Three more words: I HATE sports. Combine all of those, and you have yourself a recipe for disaster. Number 3: The platforming challenge in Hurricos; you know, the one where you have to jump across giant fan blades whilst they're spinning. And if your timing isn't ABSOLUTELY PERFECT, you're starting all over again. Needless to say, it's pretty frustrating. You probably won't die a lot, so a game over is unlikely, but it's just so TEDIOUS . . . Number 2: Chasing Bombo in Scorch. It seems simple enough; just chase a genie while avoiding his spells. But it is MUCH easier said than done. For starters, the bombs don't seem to have a clear pattern; they just go wherever they feel like - so, you can't even rely on trial-and-error to get through. Secondly, if you get hit just once, you're going back. Thankfully, you keep the flags you already took, so at least you don't have to beat the whole thing in one go. And my number 1 most DESPISED Orb Challenge in Spyro 2 is: That stupid scarecrow mission in Robotica Farms. You have to chase four robot wasps across some scarecrows, and burn them. Okay, fair enough. But there's a catch, of course. Quite a few, actually. See, the scarecrows are too tall to reach, and since the wasps sit on the very top, you have to glide from some hills (or stacks of hay, it's kinda hard to tell). But the wasps fly away the INSTANT you get near. So, you have to flame just to the side, so that you cut them off. But the WORST part? *THE DAMN THINGS RESPAWN.* So, if you take too long to burn them, you'll start losing progress. So obviously, you gotta hustle. But cutting RIGHT THROUGH THE MIDDLE of the challenge area, is an electrified river (or some sort of bug zapper floor; again, hard to tell). And since you're in a rush, chances are, you'll fall in and take damage. Not only does this hurt you, but it also wastes precious time. And of course, if you die, you're starting ALL OVER AGAIN. Seriously, SCREW that scarecrow mission. Honorable (or, dishonorable) Mention: Good ol' Fisher the Breezebuilder's trolley. I didn't actually put it on the list because I never had that much trouble with it; it's basically just a memory game. But considering how much of a meme "Trouble with the trolley, eh?" is, it would seem that a lot of people had issues with it.

Great list! I agree with ALL of these lmao; these challenges were no joke as a kid, and can still be annoying today for us as adults! Wonder how newcomers to Spyro will react to these in "Reignited;" hopefully they've improved these challenges to some degree!

Prediction of CRYSTAL POPCORN being number one if its not the Alchemist one.

It seems the Crystal Popcorn challenge falls into two camps - it's either one of the easier challenges in the game, or one of the most frustrating. For me, the big ones I dread doing are the trolley (because let's face it, near everyone had that one growing up), the Fracture Hills supercharge challenge, the alchemist because it always seemed like the Earthshapers could hit you regardless of whether you jumped or not, and navigating the propellers in Hurricos (mostly for how tricky it could be to judge distance, to know where the propeller would be when you got to it, and because if you failed there was only one place in the level you could get back up and try again)

I could taste the salt from challenge #1 in my water

Dont think I have much to post because everything in this game is fun 1: Ocean Speedway orb: ugh 2: Icy Speedway orb: again ugh 3: All the speedways: way harden than the Spyro 3 ones, but go in a certain order and you'll be fine 4: Ripto's Arena: just remember it being hard 5: Shady Oasis and the thieves: ugh, this is where they got that idea for Spyro 3 6: Fracture Hills powerup save the girl orb 7: Magma Cone crystal grabbing 8: Robotica Farms powerup clearing the path 9: Bomba the genie No particular order btw

I am sooooo glad that hunter challenge was your number one. I stayed in the same boat as you and the path to get hunter the potion was my worst one forever. I finally went back to replay spyro 2 a few years back and I came across this hunter mission and forgot all about it. Was freakin horrible lmao. Great list

I must be an outlier! :D The lava lizards are my FAVORITE challenge. The crystal popcorn is a challenge I also enjoyed, but I don't like Magma Cone that much, so it's not as high on my list. The supercharge route in Robotica Farms is one of the many reasons I dislike that level, though. I just. HATE IT. Honorable mention suggestion? Breaking the Targets in Canyon Speedway, where you ride on Hunter's UFO thing. I absolutely DESPISED it as a kid.

I will say when you beat the game at 100 percent and get the permanent super flame power unlocked and start over with that, fracture hills instantly becomes my family’s favorite level. All you got to do is blast every earth shaper in sight, and it helps with the alchemist. However no amount of super flame power makes the popcorn crystals easy 🤦🏼‍♂️😂😊

Great when you have the auto fireball bc you can blast the stone giants and the alchemist can freely walk around lol Crystal popcorn is ALWAYS the challenge I leave last to play every time I play Spyro 2. I hate it! Makes me swear, cry, get anxiety and just want to quit! lol

Wow, other than Trolly trouble I don't remember ANY of these being PAINFULLY hard even as a kid. The Alchemist one was definitely bullshit though cuz if you don't remember to leaves him for AFTER you get the head smash move you have to do the alchemist mission TWICE! If I had to say I had a least favorite challenge growing up it was the Hockey one.

Honestly, the crystal popcorn challenge would’ve been my number one pick as well… if not for me playing the Demo years back before playing the actual game, thus allowing me to get plenty of practice before reaching that level in the actual game. Thank you Crash Team Racing!

There are SO MANY challenges in Ripto's Rage, and Year of the Dragon that I just cannot beat AT ALL no matter HOW HARD I try!! Aside from Trolley Trouble, I, COMPLETELY, agree with all of the other challenges on your list, and more! And, it doesn't even help that I'm stuck playing the PAL versions! I just hope that Reignited improves on the games's old mistakes, so that, maybe, these challenges can be A LOT more fun... Agreed these challanges were aweful I also hated the "Fallow the spy" orb where if ur not PERFECTLY behind that tree you start over My wing being to inches to far out counts!? BS!!

Super charge just have to learn to go nice and gentle on the analog stick. The trolley never gave me trouble, and with learning of the air swimming glitch makes that one a no brainier. Lava Lizards yeah that one took me about 25 tries. The alchemist just follow close then hit the earthshapers. But that crystal popcorn, i kid you not was the LAST orb i got in the game. You see all of these minus the trolley can be negated IF you input the code for superflame, or get it then restart the game with it. Wall's or metal pumpkins, BOOM gone, Earthshapers, BOOM Explodifide Lava lizards Aim and Blast them to ashes, but that popcorn challenge it don't mater what cheats or codes or special tricks you do, nothing will stop that fucking cheating cheetah from beating you.

The charging controls is probably the worse part of Spyro 2 for me personally. You turn way to tight and the fact that the camera takes too long to position behind you makes it extremely tedious to maneuver. I really liked this video. Will definitely be subbing for more :3

I hate Hunter's popcorn crystals challenge. The second part anyway. The first orb for getting 10 popcorn crystals, I failed once or twice. The 15 popcorn crystals made me wish I hadn’t gone to the level in the first place.

My least favourite is recusing the leopard with the fish, just the most boring minigame in spyro 2 or 3.

The Alchemist and Lava Lizard challenges were my worst. Along with retrieving the flags in scorch and flaming those scarecrow bugs in Robotica Farms.

Out of all the things I'm _not_ looking forward to in the Ripto's Rage section of the Reignited Trilogy, I have only three 3. Follow Agent 9 2. That troll mission in Cloud Temples 1. Those. *Fucking. LAVA LIZARDS.*

I think the main reason I prefer Spyro 3 over Spyro 2 is because Spyro 2 has so many frustrating challenges that I often look at levels and just think “Do I really want to do this?” Crystal Popcorn, Alchemist, Hockey, Turtle Soup, Gear Grinders (more annoyingly drawn-out than difficult), Saving Cavemen, Bombo, Secret Base, and more.

Every time I play the game.... the crystal popcorn mission, man... GOD I HATE IT.

I have to say this... That one with Hunter was just... Well, too much! Really, the first one was already hard enough, but the second one... I sceamed with frustration when that annoying cheetah always bested me in every single match!

Is it bad that facing Ripto is a nice breath of fresh air when you compare to everything on this list and then some? I feel like that the game designers thought that taking its most lethal injection of poison and splitting it into the orb hunting side quest instead of putting it in the final boss for a brutal yet very rewarding fight. Instead we get a dumbass alchemist that needs to get his nightly stroll around the level before delivering the potion to Hunter saving him from starvation giving him a much longer life cycle. And how does your friend repay you? Simple, by making you one of the worst collecting games of all time.... TWICE!! Not to mention the tedious trolley level where one screw up ends your life, or how ridiculously fast the dinosaurs can eat up the cavemen. The least said about the god damn cowleks and how stupidly time consuming it is burning the backside of those lil bastards are the better. Other then that I am beyond stocked to play Spyro the Reignited when it’s finally released so I can relive my happy childhood again.

Funny story about the crystal popcorn minigame. I originally beat spyro 2 and unlocked dragon shores, but never 100% completed the game when I was a kid. It wasn't until 2016 when I decided to dust off my old ps2 and see if my copy still worked. It did, and I decided to finally 100% the game. It was during this replay that I discovered the crystal popcorn minigame. In all my time playing it when I was younger, I never even knew this challenge existed, and I remember wishing I'd never found out about. It was by far the most infuriating minigame in the entire game imo. I was 20 at the time I first played it.

Top 1 would be the Alchemist for me. Not only is it super slow-paced at some points, you need to do it so you can do Hunter's mission afterwards. Also those guys lowkey scared me and their reaction time when you're around is _zero_

My #1 is stupid FUCKING agent FUCKING zero's dumb FUCKING mission!!! I remember losing my shit over that one as a kid and it taking me HOURS to get through for some reason. Still pisses me off to this day

The first time doing the alchemist challenge is HORRIBLE. But then, you start a new game over a 100% completed one and start with the permanent superflame powerup right from the start which allows you to blow up the earthshapers and it's so SATISFYING to give that challenge the middle finger!

I remember the popcorn mini game! I thought it was really fun! (If I went back and played it today, that opinion might change, though...) I don't mind Hunter's mini games in general. I get the impression that he doesn't take Ripto seriously as a threat, so he holds on to the orbs as rewards for beating his challenges. I like him when he's acting as a rival for Spyro, since having someone you're competing with makes for good motivation. The alchemist can go eat a sock, though. (Not because he's a goat, but because he's a stupid jerk.)

For me, the last orb trials that were left before I got 100% was at Hurricos (maybe cuz I forgot to do them, not cuz they were super hard) and Agent Zero... OMG, Agent Zero was so annoying to deal with. Also, the trolley (I swear they made it harder in the remake cuz some of the gears, you somehow don't pick up unless you jump and they were accessible on the ground initially). And the Bomb guy in Scorch... a million times worse now- you want to rush and get the challenge done with, but in the remake, the trick is actually taking your time. Ugh!

My top 5 Hated Spyro 2 Challenges: 5. Trolley- Breeze Harbor: Low on the list because I had problems with it when I was little, but got better when I was older. 4. Hula Girl- Idol Springs: Another one that was hard when I was little. It still takes me awhile to complete this challenge, though. 3. Saving the Turtles From the Chef- Sunny Beach: When I was younger, I had no grasp on the fact that hitting the turtles in the direction of the water pool with enough force would send them right into it. I just sent them off away from the pot and prayed they'd land in the pool. 2. Crystal Popcorn- Magma Cone: Hated this challenge as a kid, still hate it now. I had a point where I could do it with no problem, but lately I can't really do it anymore. 1. Agent Zero- Cloud Temples: I hate stealth missions in games and this challenge is without a doubt the reason why I do. To this day, I can't complete this challenge; my younger sister did it once but told me "never again!" because of how many times it took her to complete it.

I would like to argue with you about the popcorn crystals challenge, but I can’t. The old version was fine for me, but they made much more difficult in the Reignited Trilogy!

First, "Trouble with the trolley, eh?" Sorry, had to get that out of the way. The Supercharge quests, yeah I agree, I HATED those. The dino quest, was a little annoying but not as annoying as those stupid prehistoric bat things that lob fire at you and then flee before you can get close forcing you to go near the lava, pick up a rock and then spit it at them. Sorry, venting. I cannot agree more with you on the Crystal Popcorn challenge. I cannot count the times I rage quit over that challenge. I actually once quit the level, continued with the game, and then came back after I had beat Ripto and had earned absolutely EVERY OTHER ORB. Then I beat it.

That turtle soup challenge was annoying. Especially the second one. I'm glad I saved it for last and did it.

At least with number 2, if you got good memorization then it'd be smooth sailing. #1? Luck based.

They need to add a fourth Platinum Trophy to Reignited: Beat the popcorn game with a score of 15-0 😈

Im all for a challenge but i SERIOUSLY hope TFB fix the difficulty of these challenges for the remake.. yes i mean make them easier... i have no regrets.

YES! I HATE the Popcorn Crystal Challenge, it feels like all the crystals go directly to Hunter.

The trolly, the Genie in Scorch, and the Ice Hockey are the worst. Also the Badlands one you mentioned. *rage quit* I also hated the Turtle Soup challenges. Have you done one for spyro 3, my least favorites are the Lizard chase and Sheila's challenge in the same level, mostly because the camera pans and I always end up getting hit. Sometimes I even fall into the abyss.

I didn't grow up with spyro at all but I bought Ripto's Rage just last year and "Trouble with the trolly, eh?" has been ingrained in my brain in such a way that brought back PTSD flashbacks from hearing it in this video just now. Thanks for that. 😆

#5: The trolley challenge. The challenge isn't really hard, but the trolley feels so slow. #4: Ice hockey. Again, not a difficult challenge, but I drove myself insane getting that skill point. Every time the other guy scored a goal I had to put down my controller and wait for him to eventually win (at least my goalie can't block a shot to save his life, so I didn't have to wait TOO long). And that smug monk didn't help. #3 Clearing out the draclets in Crystal Glacier. I can never get all of these guys in one pass (or two). It always devolves into ten minutes or so of me flying around and around growing ever more irate as just one more becomes two, and then three, and then two, and then one, and then two again. #2 Bombo's challenge. It's bad enough that you have to keep running back and forth through the whole level, but add the fact that his bombs always seem to bounce at the perfect angle, and that you have to put up with this three times for a single orb, and you have the perfect recipe for rage. Special Mention: Catching the monkeys in Scorch. Those guys have uncanny accuracy with those coconuts and it infuriates me how many times I've died just so that Hunter can be spared a bop on the head, especially after what he put me through in... #1: Crystal collecting. I feel that I can only adequately express my loathing of this challenge in three words. Fuck. This. Challenge. I must have spent thirty minutes on the second half alone the first time I revisited Spyro 2. The sheer teeth-grinding, fist clenching, blood-boiling stress of frantically waiting for the camera to pan around so I could see where the next crystals were going, desperately charging to reach them in time, and futilely trying to get in front of Hunter to swipe the crystals from him, only to be pushed aside as if I weren't even there, left me hating my once bro and relishing any chance Year of the Dragon gave me to annihilate him.

I remember the sense of accomplishment I felt after completing this game to 100% back in the day. Now, it is easy to me. Just a little annoying with certain orb challenges. My least favorite challenge. . .The alchemist. Like, dude. Hunter is literally 20 feet to the left of you! -.-

The key to overcoming any challenge is hard work and guts! If you have that, any game is possible!

Am I really the only one that doesn't find a single challenge in Spyro 2 annoying? I mean, some of them were a little frustrating when I was 5 years old (for example, I couldn't figure out how to defeat the lava lizards in Magma Cone), but now I've figured out how to deal with every single challenge in the game. The most tedious challenge to solve was either the Bombo flags or Lava Lizards 2 in Skelos Badlands
