This was the morning show music track theme for a lot of early eighties news and talk shows. Motivational music.

I went out to eat with my then-girlfriend in 2003 in Chicago. It was a cold winter night and after we finished eating dinner, she told me, out of the blue, that she didn't want to see me again. She said, she just didn't love me anymore. I was shocked because up until that night, everything seemed just fine but I took the news like a gentleman and told her it was Ok, I wished her the best and drove her home. Afterward, I went for a drive. A few minutes later, I was about to go back to her place. I wanted to ask her to take me back but then, I turned the radio on and this song came on. I immediately felt much better after I listened to it! When the song was over, I just told myself to go on with my life and I remember saying out loud: "the hell with her!" Several years later, I met the love of my life, and here we are. Thanks Spyro Gyra!

That's the way to let go, Rob, like a real man. I had to do the same thing with an ex after she "couldn't" be with me(longer story). We were both young and came with much baggage but hers was worse than mine. Should have saw it coming. About 2-3 yrs later she wanted me back and I even toyed with the idea for a minute. We actually ended up in the sack for a hot sec but she wound up not staying. 4 more yrs passed and she came back again but I was married at that point. She still had hopes even then but I held onto my good and lasting thing (still together today!!) She found me on social media and congratulated me on my wedding pics. We chatted and befriended each other for several yrs running, up until 2017 or so. Some time afterwards, I found out she died in her sleep, maybe due to hard living. I never wished her bad but was burned by her leaving. Now I just hope she's in a better place. Things go the way they do for reasons we can't always understand. But ultimately it's up to us to move on and not dwell in the past. So in the end, things worked out better for me as well as her (she finally got married also) I hope things will continue to go better for you as well!! Take care . . .

Though he is not in this video, my dear friend, Rubens Bassini, did the percussion on this song. I can’t hear it without a smile coming to my face. I remember him going into the kitchen at parties and bringing out all kinds of things and making percussion instruments out of them.He was a kind, gentle man who loved what he did. He came to this country with Sergio Mendes back in Sergio’s early days. He has been gone a long time, but I still think of him fondly.

I remember seeing them in Austin in 1978. I was a junior in high school. We played a bunch of their charts in the jazz band. Super nice guy, Jay. He actually talked with us and listened to a bunch of kids that wanted to do the same thing he was doing but with a ton less talent! I am 60 now and I still play trumpet, trombone and harmonica. This song always makes me happy. It just encapsulates joy. They have many great songs but I would submit this is their legacy song. It was used a lot on Buffalo NY tv for promos and I believe one of the local morning shows in the early 80s... AM Buffalo? It beckons me back to the morning breakfast table secure and happy in the company of my mom and dad. Thanks for this updated video!

Back in the day I first heard this track on a local radio station and the dj said it was a single released from the album. At the time I was working in Springburn which is in the north of Glasgow, Scotland. An industrial area then but there was a good record shop there so off I went and asked them if they had the album in stock. No was the answer, they'd never heard of it. But they were intrigued and said they would try and track it down. Took them a few weeks but they got it for me and I still have that album. The record shop and the place where I worked are now both buried underneath a bypass. As for the track, well it makes me happy too !

Jazz clubs promoted Sunday afternoon venue starting at 4pm continuing to late evening to early am...heard Spyro Gyra at 'The One Eyed Cat' Great music n memories, late nites,...then cutting fresh snow tracks home. Mondays seemed to be so much better after Sunday's like that.

The melody alone makes me feel good. I like it. It's fun, highly melodic and quietly fiery. It doesn't go out of its way to upend the listener with sheer volume or brazenness, and I like that a lot. If you drop the volume a bit, it sounds a lot like the music you'd on early 90's morning shows. And that's no mean feat.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT synchronization job of the original 16mm film footage "video" of the song, to a newly remastered stereo audio sound track. Many, if not most or all promotional staged (playback) "videos" in the 1970s and even into the early 80's, had their audio sound strip using the enveloped-down mono version and usually sounding very "muddy" at that. That's the way things were done back then. YOUR re-creation is par excellence! BCRadio

Inherited my late uncle's audio cassette collection several years back and have just recently begun going through it in full. Found quite a few unexpected gems among them (as well as several duds that were beyond salvaging and even some that still sounded great for their age yet needed to be re-attached to their spools on account of the adhesive finally wearing out on the leader tape). Spyro Gyra turned out to be one of those gems and my uncle was apparently fond of them as they took up a sizable part of his collection. 'Morning Dance' was the first tape of theirs I tested and from that point on I realized I may have come across my new favorite band (lol)! Amazing the level of musicianship and writing they possessed at the time, no wonder their music still holds up over 40 years later, my goodness...

Jay's the man. He held that group together over they years man. Just like Russ Freeman and the Ripps.
