Yeah and everyone dragon looks so different. Glad I waited for the remake on switch. I remember playing the first 2 on ps1. Back than I wasn't too much into video games until Smash Brothers came by in 99.
Models are usually animated with some sort of skeletal structure, but the models in many early 3D games (Quake and even Crash have the same effect) didn't have bone structures, at least when the models were finalized and in the game. Instead these models are animated by the vertex, which I believe caused a chain reaction with adjacent vertices and made the models wiggle a lot. Texture rendering on the PS1 had a similar effect
@@eliiemeghebo It's due to low precision on the vertex positions. The wobbly polygons were less noticeable on the CRT and 240p the game was designed to run at.
I mean, to us who have grown up with the original, the old stuff will always be better bc we grew up with it but that doesn't mean we don't love and appreciate the new. In fact for me at least, it made me realize why I love the series in the first place
@@moonlight_sparkle6659 Exactly, but to be honest I also love old animations for how they are made, I liked how the characters moved "slowly" to express themselves, their movements, added to the old graphics "with that lack of detail" for some reason, for me , they make them more "adorable", it's like if they were plush dolls ..., they seem more naive or innocent I don't know how to explain it well ..., I just know that the new models lost some of that "charisma" is not that they are bad .. (Especially it shows in the professor, I loved the -"no ..., no ..........., AHA !!" and his face with a tiny eye and the other disproportionate just loved those things, "that informality"), obviously all this is very subjective, the new ones are not bad, just lost some magic, IN MY OPINION, ohhh nostalgia ..
To me the Reignited version of the 1st and second game are way more superior, but Spyro 3 not so much due to how glitchy it is. Plus Spyro 3 didn't make the baby dragons anymore unique than the original besides graphically
The way you said this sounds like 90s was 90 years ago and most people would be dead or too old. Sorry but, most people that played it are still alive and still playing games and they are pretty much used to the graphics nowadays.
@@TheAngelOfTheBottomlessPit Its all of our childhoods, the difference is that we can take off our nostalgia glasses to appreciate a quality re-imagining of it. You're stuck in the past old man.
"What are you, some kind o' goat?" "I'm a FAUN, you DORK!" "Oh. Sorry." Interesting how the original and remastered versions have different reactions to Spyro's question. Original Elora is insulted, but remastered Elora finds his mistake a bit adorable.
old bianca sounded "evil" in first 2 worlds but seems "kinder" in the remakes the scary thing is they do this to video game and animie carractors all the time...... they also do it to real peaople. can make someone personality change by the dubbing.
Can we talk about her line in year of the dragon remake, the (i didn't want to say it) bedroom eyes she makes and her tail waggle. Deviant art haf a field day with that one.
@@Wizkid_Utopia Gregg Berger for Ripto (though oddly none of his other roles like Hunter), also Richard Tatum as Agent 9 and Bartholomew, Andre Sogiluzzo as Sparx, and Michael Gough as Gnasty Gnorc (even if his performance is near totally different). Tom Kenny also reprises Sgt Byrd and the Professor as well as Spyro, I think that's about it, though I suppose it's better than Crash N Sane Trilogy that brought back NONE of the PS1 era actors.
I don't think they did away with the original feel. They added to it if anything because they added details that the original games just didn't have the hardware for. But these definitely play the same way so I don't get why people say it's different outside of graphical improvements, music instrumentation, and some design changes.
Looking back now, Tom Kenny’s voice acting for Spyro was really kinda monotone. The Reignited Trilogy really shows how much he’s improved in voice acting over the years.
I feel like some of the original voices were somehow better than the revised versions. Personally I I absolutely adore what they did with the rest of the game, but the voice acting sounds strangely wooden for such a expressive avatars.
Babyluther73 actually they WHERE at one point gonna make a Spyro movie....but it was gonna be based on the legend of Spyro trilogy rather then the original...
Funny thing is Activision published this trilogy, not Universal Studios like the originals. Universal is terrible and worked Insomniac too hard and it ended up killing Spyro
One little detail I noticed is how some of Spyro’s body language in the remake feels almost dog-like to emphasize his playful nature. Such as how he bends low and raises his tail when he’s excited for a fight.
I hate how the characters in Reingnited cutscenes move so rapidly that it's painfull to watch. Also exaggarated expressions, they do not achieve same emotions as old PSX animators did
I preferred hunter's original voice actor. But I always felt like I could hear the actors spitting their words in the old dialogue. Especially Alora lol
His original VA was also Ripto's VA! He reprised his role as Ripto in the Reignited Trilogy, idk why he didn't do Hunter again. Maybe because new Hunter sounds younger?
@@AvenRox because Greg berger probably can't do hunter's voice as good as he did in the original but yeah I also prefer Greg berger as hunter because he did an excellent job on the original Spyro trilogy he made hunter feel like Hunter
I like how the Reignited remaster of Year of the Dragon had each animal friend in the cages speak before they were freed. In the original, especially as they were locked up and held by Moneybags, they remained stationary.
@@paigem.6487 I like this version of Spyro hope Reignited Trilogy starts getting fanfictions for its version and hope Reignited Trilogy Spyro will used more too.
Back then they weren't able to do a very good time cut. I think initially hours were supposed to pass before Spyro woke up and realized that Alora was gone. Unfortunately, Toys for Bob didn't think about that and left it the same (despite changing a few other things).
The originals have grown on me quite a bit, but the remake has better cutscenes, camera angles, etc. It's mosly the nostalgic voice actors. Funny enough, I wasn't even BORN back then
@@rac1equalsbestgame853 Nostalgia is probably a huge factor for me. Spyro the Dragon was my first ever video game, back when I was 7. So it was a core part of my childhood
Devynn Hageman I wasn't even born back then and I haven't played the originals, just watched a couple longplays of them and grew on me. I might get them on digital for my PS3 in the future, but for now I have the remakes, which are awsome
I've never even played either set of spyro games but seeing these cutscenes side by side just makes me so happy! It's amazing to see what they've done without the technical limitations of the time... Also: the sound design shouldn't go without acknowledgement either
Nothing wrong with that. And I remember when I was a little kid playing Syphon Filter on my brother's PlayStation being amazed at how realistic the graphics looked at the time.
34:28 OH MY GOD THE DRAWINGS!!! I MISSED THISE SO MUCH, I COMPLETELY FORGOT THAT THEY EXISTED BUT THEN I SEE THEM AND MY HEART IS HAPPY AGAIN!! nostalgia at its finest
@@starlingbaez6681 unfortunately I dont have a ps4. I can play the spyro and crash remakes on steam though. Do you know if parrapa the rapper is on steam??
In terms of improvement, I think the best has got to be the endings to 3. I love the new cutscenes as is. They are so adorable with their updated expressions, but 3 has got to be the epitome of cute. Elora and Spyro have some wonderful chemistry and the secret ending is so much better with Spyro interacting more positively with the baby dragons.
"You can't even keep track of your running shoes, how can we trust you with 14 talismans?" "I had shoes?!" "Before you go to the castle dungeon Spyro, I thought that you'd might want to know how Ripto and his mosters arrived in Avalar. You see..." "Hunter's fault?" "Um.. yes. Hunter's fault."
Well, in the eggs the big part are female, probably the females live in other local... or just have a few females and the dragons need to "make a reposition", and because this there so much eggs (considering that one dragon can put more than one egg)
I've always felt like there was something almost asmr-like about the original voice acting for Elora. like, I'm not sure if it was the actress or the recording equipment but the subtle little pops on the Ps and Ts were so organic and kinda lovely
Im so glad theres someone else out there who likes this about 2, the loud plosives in the voice clips are one of the specially distinctive things that make me love it.
I never got a chance to play Spyro when I was younger (I was basically a baby when it came out), but I'm really amazed that I could just recognize some of the voice actors right away. Also yes, there's a STARK CONTRAST between two decades worth of work but it's beautiful. I wish I got to play it when I was younger.
I know everyone's chuffed with the high quality graphics of the remake, but it's also interesting how different the cutscenes are in terms of tone or little inflections. There's details in the voice acting and little touches in the animations that alter some of the character's personalities in small ways, and the music is very different too. Not better or worse I stress! It's just unique, and I'm glad to have this video around to see them side by side c:
I always try to stay level headed in 'new vs old' and while many games suck really hard with remakes and capturing the tone of the old ones; Spyro Trilogy did a really fine job.
I always find two things funny where Aussie characters are involved. 1. Sometimes the English VA is just slightly off so it was nice to hear an Australian play an Australian. 2. So often they use Aussie terms that I never hear any Aussies use, for example, wahzoo.
Everyone who worked on this game had to know that Reignited had a lot to live up to. While I myself don't have the nostalgia for these games that others do (I only had Ripto's Rage as a kid, bought it because I had money burning a hole in my pocket, but never beat it) I know people, both online and in real life, who could tell you these nice stories about how Spyro defined their childhood and taste in gaming and gush about the memories of these games. But even I can say that Toys for Bob NAILED it. Not only does the game make tons of QOL updates that were sorely needed, not only are the controls as smooth as butter and feel great, not only are the games fun both for casual players and die hard completionists, but these cutscenes...my god. Everything about this game looks and sounds amazing. The actors breathe life into their characters and sound like they're having fun voicing them. The animators made these already charming cutscenes ten thousand times better, and the artists made believable changes to characters. The updates to the character designs, be they as drastic as Sheila's or as basic as Bentley's, look amazing, no one looks out of place. Even the little things like Sargent Byrd waddling, Shelia giving Moneybags the Stink eye while she's in her cage, and the extra details, big or small, in the cutscenes, all of it oozes charm, and you can tell that this is a labor of love. Toys for Bob can hold their heads up high having this game on their resume. It's not perfect, but then, what is a perfect game, and what gives you the right to decide that for everyone else? I am about halfway through Year of the Dragon and I'm having a ball with it. Bravo, Toys for Bob, Bravo. You fine ladies and gentlemen made the game great for both the fans of the original and for newcomers, and that's something worth patting yourself on the back over.
I can also say that I have no nostalgia for the original trilogy I only ever owned a hero’s tail as a kid and I never finished it and later I was prevented from playing past a certain point cause the disk kept freezing.
Loved spyro as a kid. The reignited took a different but beautiful approach. One of the few 'remakes' that stayed true to tge original gameplay but reignited it... it was great to see so much detail. But played the same so the memories came back and the appreciation for the new graphics. In this rare instance it's sort of the best of both.
The only one gripe I had was it would have been awesome to see the original end credits and theme with upgraded graphics. Although with the free fly mod available we are able to do so in game :)
I like how they kept the cartoon violence. They hardly changed the original scripting at all. Ripto straight up burns to death in lava and they kept it in. I'm happy that this doesn't suffer from too much new age censorship.
Well we dont really get to see ripto burn in the lava in the remake it was more like an off screen death. The sorceress however we get to see her fucking melt.
I’ve been a Spyro fan since I can remember. I love these games. I really was blown away by the remake. Despite its amazing quality I still prefer the OG soundtrack and character designs even though they were simpler
I love how much more expressive everyone is in Reignited Trilogy! I also like how there are a few new lines in the Year of the Dragon remake like at 36:21 and 59:42
And at 22:43 Ripto’s line, “Gulp! Finish him off and you can have all the fairies you can eat! I’m going to enjoy this…!” was eschewed from the remaster. 45:04 52:38 59:07 New lines there too.
>everyone around you freeze into crystals, possibly dead Spyro: "l0oKs LiKE i'Ve gOt s0Me THiNgS t0 dO." >villain proceeds to ignore the one dragon that got away right in front of his TV view Such cinematic genius. 👏
One thing I’ve noticed: the remaster of the cutscene at 21:59, Ripto’s laughter now echoes as the flags change to reflect his takeover of the castle. Nice touch.
I really miss old Hunter and Bianca though. Hunter used to come off as dumb in a bro way, but the new seems dumber and more of a wimp. And Biana felt sassier an more driven. This one seems more innocent and soft spoken. They aren't bad by any means, I just hold the old ones near and dear bc Year of the Dragon and Enter the Dragonfly were *massive* parts of my childhood.
The comparisons are really nice. Seeing how they improved. It would be cool if the old voice actors were the voice actors for the new version but the animation is spot on!
Can we talk about how in the original the professor from out of nowhere his glasses were "broken", like that entire scene just made me laugh with how nonsensical it was.
