I already have a garden bed and planted some things in it. I stopped this video half way through and went outside to do this. OMG!!! What a difference it makes! It looks so orderly now. Nothing looks "random" anymore. I love it.

I did a couple square foot beds several years ago, then life happened. I learned a little. Recently I started volunteering at a community garden that wanted to begin this method along with vertical gardening. We chose to use a staple gun instead if nails, as it was for a public school project and nails sticking up could be a hazard.

Great suggestion! And much easier than hammering in nails. I’ll certainly use a nail gun next time, thank you for the tip!

I never thin out plants. Still can't bring myself. I am going to start but I will never throw a plant away. I'll just plant it somewhere random and see what happens to it. No Plant Left Behind". (I guess that's a tell-tale sign that I'm a new gardener, lol)

I can relate. I’ve been gardening for a long time and I too, STILL really struggle with thinning out plants 🙋‍♀️. It never gets easier lol. But just motivates me to keep expanding the garden. Thanks for watching!

I'm planning to do just this on my first garden this spring -I'm just about to seed, but have the opposite problem of it being too wet here. I'm so glad I found your video -great work!

I’d definitely recommend a square foot garden for your first garden. It’s an excellent way to grow a lot of different things in one season. Best part is, more potential learning opportunities! Best of luck with your garden, thank you for watching!

Did you make an update video of this bed? I'd love to see it growing!

I didn’t make an update on this one specifically. I did a few videos with this bed in it. I’d check out some of my garden tours. The cauliflower really exploded in this bed.

I tried something like this a while ago but with dried twigs laid in grids on the soil surface and clipped into soil,faster deployment and less strenous, esp when you gotta work under sun.

Great suggestion! I have a ton of bamboo sticks. I might try that with the bamboo.

@Mr_ravee, I’ve recycled a 1’ X 4’ piece of lattice, works great for (16) 1” spacing.

Might be late but just put cardboard or a wooden plank on the seeds you need help germinating I live in new Mexico and it helps alot

I’ve heard of the wooden plank on carrot seeds but have never tried it. I’ll definitely need to try that with cardboard! Thank you!

Informative video but I’m confused as to how you are planting things from different seasons together 🤔 Watermelons, beans, zucchini & tomatoes like the heat. Broccoli, Kale & Spinach hate the heat

Hi, I live in Florida so September actually extremely hot still which would be ideal for the warm loving crops. While at the same time, September is the ideal time to start our cold weather crops going into the winter months. Our Fall season is considered to be a second Spring. Our growing season is a little unusual compared to other zones. For example, I did end up harvesting cauliflower and broccoli from this bed. While at the same time I had tomatoes growing almost all through Winter. Thanks so much for watching!

This is an informative video, however, it was a bit difficult for me to understand how you were planting the seeds. It appeared that you were not planting within the square, some it looks like you were reading over the line. I was trying to following as you were commentating but it was not matching up. Im older so it could just be my eyesight.

Hi, I’m sorry my video was unclear in some areas. I think it’s due to the angle of my camera. I’ll keep that in mind next time I film a video on this topic. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
