Because the question demands that both statements can be true at the same time and in contrary relation, both the statements can not be true at the same time.

Sir for the last question it asked if one of them is false then the other must be true, wouldnt that be contradictory and not subaltern?

Hi. If you still have a doubt regarding that question, I hope this helps. It's not sub altern but sub-contrary. It's not contradictory because in contradictory, both can neither be true nor be false together. But, in the question, it's given that both can be true together. In sub-contrary, both can't be false together. So, if one is false, the other must be true proves here.

Even i thought ki yeh contradictory hoga but contradictory rule says cannot be true together and one has to be true and other has to be false. So first part of sentence would make us feel that it is contradictory statement but here the catch is second part of the question where is says both of them can be true. So i can say we can add one more rule to sub contrary that is, cannot be false together but can be true together.
