Wow, I have to say... this looks overly complicated. Wouldn't this take a very long time to do for a student? This seems so far away from the actual mathematics involved in finding x^2=55225 I'm considering enrolling my 3 year old on a Montessori school so I'm trying to figure out how the curriculum works.
This is an elementary demonstration. I think math is one of Montessori's greatest strengths, especially for a preschool child. The idea is to see the problem in 3 dimensions, so later when it becomes more abstract, the child has a mental picture of what is going on, improving comprehension.
