This old Chevrolet truck is misfiring 7 ways from Sunday and I haven't yet tracked down root cause. Parts cannon is loading up as I type this.
We work on ANYTHING with an ENGINE using mostly BUDGET TOOLS.
What are we working on?
1979 Chevrolet C10 Custom Deluxe
What are we using to complete the work?
tools and brain power
Do we have any concerns about today's work?
Hope we didn't get burned on this deal.
Why did we decide to do this?
This engine continues to run worse. Don't worry... All is well in the end.
What's your favorite thing about this work?
We hope this video helps encourage you to start or continue working on whatever project you've got sitting around. We hope you have a great day. We appreciate our subscribers and viewers. A BIG THANKS to each of you. Remember, this is something YOU CAN DO so REACH OUT with QUESTIONS and don't be afraid of Starting-Continuing-Finishing the work your project needs.

Any additional thoughts?
We complete work in a small 2 stall garage with limited space. You can do anything you would like to do, no matter the space you have, just plan accordingly and adjust your plans to the size of your workspace. We Believe In YOU!
What's coming to the shop in the future?
Junk yard F350? MAYBE!
Are you able to do lots of work in a limited space?
Yes, without question. The biggest issues we face in our 2stallgarage are organization. Keeping the workspace organized and both stalls clear of clutter really helps with motivation, which then helps with productivity. Basically, if I see a clean workspace, I'm much more ready to dive into a project or even just scheduled maintenance.

I've suddenly had a miss on a daily driver. Sounds exactly like that. I did all but the plugs. I hope it's the plugs. I'll find out in the morning. Thanks

Worn camshaft, usually shows in the rear cylinders

Hi, Justin. Hmm, a stuck lifter, or perhaps a bent pushrod. Either one or both could contribute to the two questionable cylinders. With the cylinder head off and running, you could check for stuck lifters and gently tap a stuck lifter with a screwdriver\hammer. You've hit everything else pretty well, so the problem should show itself :)

Thanks Wes, next video will be looking at this. Much appreciation.

I'm guessing the camshaft has a couple of worn lifter lobes

Highly likely. I’ll be tearing this down to find out.

Fix your exhaust leak and it should run better. You may have a bad wire.
@2StallGarage
@2StallGarage Год назад
Yes, I know. I actually thought about you when I hadn’t fixed the exhaust yet. Moneys a bit tight but I’ll get to that soon. Thanks for staying with the journey.

Got me stumped as well. Take valve covers off and check n make sure all valves are opening like theor supposed to. Maybe stuck or bemt valve. My kid loves paw patrol too

Hey bud, yeah, swapped cables, no change. Swapped plugs, the issue didn’t follow the plug. Seems like a cylinder thing. Hot up here. Hows today for you?

@@2StallGarage hot hot 102 earlier bout 100 now with real feel at 109 humidity is down right now to 39% but we're looking at 110+ days next few days. Been racking my brain trying to think of what else it could possibly be with the truck. Is it losing water at all?? Is the miss fire on the side with the higher compression or lower iv done forgot. Only things I can think of are stuck/bent valve or maybe a cracked head or if it's losing water could be head gasket leaking into the water jacket boiling the water out. That's what my civics doing that's why I gotta resurface my block soon. They make a tester u can use on the radiator to test and see if there's exhaust mixing into the coolant or u could also just get a leak down tester. It's kinda like your compression gauge u have. Harbor freight has that I know but the other u can rent or buy from AutoZone

No coolant loss Swapped cables, no change Swapped plug, no change. Issue didn’t follow cable or plug or both. Cylinder 3 seems dead but has 115psi compression & spark. Do you have to work outside in that heat?
@GlassWerx

@@2StallGarage naw don't work. Just my cnc stuff. Was sitting in the shop earlier running the cnc had big fan going. Wasn't too bad. I used to work daily n this heat but not anymore. Only thing I can think of is maybe do a leak down test n see if the cylinder will hold pressure or take valve cover off and see if the lifters/rockers working right. Just odd that it's on just the one cylinder n doesn't change
@2StallGarage
@2StallGarage Год назад
@GlassWerx I’m going to start looking into the internals like you’re talking. What’s the next cnc project?

Cool video when doing a compression test you need not so much the top psi but how even it is on all cylinders.... And when you find a low cylinder add about a table spoon of oil and see if compression goes up if it does its rings...if it does not it's valves leaking if two adjacent cylinders are low even with oil added most likely a head gasket.... Shame the dodge is going away I could fix that one lol 😂.... My old heath kit oscilloscope would pick up the engine miss firing really easy... Those HEI dizzys are easy hard is part is mounted in the back...

Thanks for the excellent info, moparnut. This helps me out as I continue the path of resistance with this truck. I’m trying! 🙂🔧

Might just for the fun of it change out the wire on the cylinder that is missing. Also run through the firing order and make sure it's correct. Other than that I'm kinda stumped myself. Good luck finding the problem.

Also check and make sure the intake valve is opening.

wire swap - no change | plug swap - issue didn't follow the plug | I'm with you on taking a look at the valves, etc. Stay tuned & thanks for collaborating on this.
