Squash players must be the fittest athletes in the world. Needing the agility of a gymnast, strenght of a sprinter & stamina of a long distance runner.
@@f04bhargavharipurkar7 I was ranked top 1000 In my province and played in plenty of tournaments if are going to get upset with people who give their advice then shut the fuck up and be quiet
Absolutely disgraceful that IOC hasn't accepted squash into Olympics yet. We all know that the sport has every rights to be in the games, but cabinet shenanigans and closed door negotiations with money has the last word in these arguements. And squash has not been part of these foul plays, which leads into our exclusion from the Olympics. I'm going to share the fuck out of this video during 2024 games and asking for a reason for the inclusion. HEED MY WORD, YOU'LL HEAR ABOUT THIS.
Totally agree. I'd understand Surfing, Skateboarding and Sport Climbing, but I draw the line at break dancing. It's disgusting, disgraceful, and confusing to want to accept "breaking" as an Olympic sport over Squash.
@@patarp1350It's just North America trying to put some sports originating there into Olympics. They're even considering cheerleading for a future date.
I will be honest with you. i play squash 4 times a week. i practice a decent amount too. and i can honestly tell you. its boring to watch if you dont play it and understand what it takes to control ball at that speed and pace. i myself can't sit and watch a match. now you want millions of people to sit and watch a rally for 1 point for 2 minutes?
It is break-dancing rather than ballroom dancing for Paris, but no more understandable set against squash's continuing exclusion. But as the inclusion of skateboarding and surfing in Tokyo show, IOC have moved away from genuine sports towards what they see as cool activities.
All those events riding a horse should be taken out of Olympics. On one hand horse owns big part of the medal and on the other it is animal cruelty. This is 2021!
@@andrewshelley8315 yes we don’t want our tennis or soccer or golf friends missing out on more accolades as they are really underfunded and struggle to get airtime.
Great clip, got goosebumbs. It's time to accept squash as an Olympic sport! Long overdue. Such an international sport. Great to watch, real sport. Why race walking, shooting or open water swimming but not squash for God sake?
I would like to see the last 8-10 shots in a few rallies so that people would recognize the high quality of our game. The video is inspirational in other ways but add in some segments of outstanding rallies. Thanks.
I'm sold on it, I play and recognise all the positives. Sadly the people who make the decisions are looking for something different. What do they require? How do we get around their discriminations that is the question we need to answer.
This is just utter nonsense. Squash is a brutal sport and one of the most demanding sports on the planet. Chess on legs you need strength you need agility you need speed you need stamina you need a game plan constantly changing in reflection of the match you need heart you need hand to eye coordination of the highest order yet still, still this sport of gods is not in the Olympics. What the hell are these people up to.
@@zsbacskai7331 well sorry you feel that way. You must be rich then if your having a dig at so called poor people who are probably trying to better there lives by actually doing something positive BY playing squash. You will in fact find that the best sports men and women are the ones that come from deprived backgrounds and have had some trauma in there childhood and sport including squash can channel there negative lives into positive ones.
the boxfit channel I agree 100%. It demands very much same attributes as badminton, maybe not so much raw jumping power and speed but even more endurance. And there are many "lesser" sports in the Olympics already. Squash should definitely be in, lets hope it happens sooner not later.
Yep, the next Olympic Sport, iPhone dragon slayer. Boring. Yes it all comes down to money and publicity. Everybody who has played squash knows how physically demanding it is, you will probably find the board members who select the games chosen for the Olympics have not played the game to understand how good it is. The top players are extreme athletes and deserve to be fully recognised. Their passion and emotions alone should make it an Olympic Sport. You don't see Novak Djokovic diving around like Paul Coll.
I agree with the comments regarding Joey Barrington needed for the commentary, however, they absolutely need to ensure players are always looking to play the ball, keep the game flowing, otherwise it'll never happen.
*SQUASH DOES **_NOT_** Need Olympics!* *_Olympics_** NEED Squash!* *IOC! Include This Game, It’s HIGH Freaking Time!* *And While You Are At It, FREAKING INCLUDE KABADDI!*
We need to learn why it keeps getting rejected.. what are THEIR demands, criteria for qualification , To understand them we have to think like THEY do.what is the ultimate reason . NO is not good enough an excuse. The World Squash Governing Body needs to Adapt. Squash in the Commonwealth Games. WHY not the Olympics ?
@@gphantom25 this might be a negative way to think, but could it be money incentive? Egypt kinda has a monopoly on the sport, with most top players being Egyptian. I'm sure there's also other reasons but this could be a contributing reason. Another one that comes to mind is the subtly in the gameplay/technique/quality of the games. For someone who has never played or seen squash it is very hard to see the details. However, that does go for many sport I guess.
The problem is not that is not a global sport, it also not a problem (anymore) that it is hard to show the sport on camera. The only problem is that there is not a lot of money in the sport. And because of that it will not be included.
@@mellowmonsoon278 Every now and then a few sports are added to the Olympics (and sometimes a few are removed). Officially the most important criteria is that interest in sport has to be globally and by a lot of people competitively. However the sports who make are usually known to attrack lots of sponsors. So not all sports. Just the sports that are nowadays added.
Skateboarding has become a legit sport. Sure, it's point system and competition structure isn't the same as other sports but it's legitimate competition. Honestly, I feel it's just North America trying to push some sports originating there into Olympics. That's it.
Reddy, the Library is archiving squash, and so is historical, but this film has received 26,000 views on RU-vid since it was originally uploaded. So, it is not quite what it seems.
How is the world's healthiest sport for mind and body not yet in the line-up? A game played by 8 to 80 yr olds, irrespective of climate - a game in which strategic thought stimulates exercise and in which courtesy and respect for others is the norm. Lets teach our children to seize the day.
Because it's not about sport, nor health, apparently. It needs to be 'cool' to attract (young) viewers, and viewers equals money. If health was a main driver, boxing would have been out of the Olympics for a long time already...
Squash has been a worldwide sport for decades. Champions coming from India, America & Australia. It's a popular social sport. Throughout the world. Thought it would be one of the first sports to be made an Olympic sport.
As an ex pro I can tell you the problem is the incompetence of the International Squash Federation. A bunch of old men who want to feel important and get done nothing. We are talking about being part of Olympics now for 25 (!!!) years and it has not crossed anyone's mind that you need to lobby (pay money) the IOC comittee.
Christian, squash is a genuine sport that ticks the boxes of athleticism, structure, being worldwide, showcasing venues etc etc, but it is also small in terms of playing numbers, TV reach (e.g. a non-playing audience), broadcast income, age perception etc. That explains why it has been challenging to get a place on the programme, and why we have not succeeded so far. However, I know from personal experience watching the efforts over many years before being involved myself that the efforts of WSF, PSA, National Federations and individuals over the years have been nothing but full committment coupled with maximum effort, professionalism and funding-raising / spend too. You may criticise the lack of success, but talking of old men & doing nothing is plain wrong. As is bribery. You are looking in the wrong direction. We need to look at ourselves, how we can change to comply with what the IOC are looking for i.e. the 'cool' youth market. Skating, surfing, speed climbing etc this year, break-dancing for 2024 get in but not traditional great sports like ours that may deserve a place but are simply not fitting with the IPOC agenda at this point. (And if we change it will lead to re-generation of the sport generally). Andrew
@@worldsquashlibrary7032 sorry Andrew to disagree. Whats the difference to Badminton as example? And if you think anything in this world goes without lobbying ( bribing to use your words) than your are very naive.
@@worldsquashlibrary7032 and to add is that its not PSA who is at fault. I think they have done really well. Amazing venues and TV coverage but at national level (federations) we suck big time.
@@christianwind8874 Good to have a discussion, so don't be sorry! While badminton got into the Olympics shortly after the 1984 LA Games turned them into a serious commercial propostion, we were still developing a mainstream product - and as you say, PSA and the promoters have done a superb job. Not least the arrival of SquashTV in 2010 that was a game changer in terms of bringing uniformly high standards of presentation. We would really have been ready for London 2012, but IOC found a way to exclude us then, as they have since. You and I have a different take on lobbying, which actually means networking, building relationships and pushing the case with key insiders at every turn - which is exactly what the old men who did nothing (and women too) have been doing so much of! While IOC has its own agenda as mentioned, I am afraid you really do not know the situation very well if you think that a sport that has struggled to raise a few hundred thousand Euros to bid, could add enough millions more to try that route - which may work for other groups but if you know the make-up of the IOC would know that it should never be tried. Anyway, we all hope that the WSF and PSA find a way of mounting a successful bid for 2028, as and when that becomes possible.
Does squash have an image problem? Not among pros, but amateurs, where it is often an 'old wealthy man' sport. Contrast this with the 'young hip' sports recently added, e.g. skateboarding, break dancing, climbing, surfing. I want squash to be part of the Olympics, it should be already, but maybe it has to broaden the appeal to non-squash fans
@@mellowmonsoon278 yes, as long as squash is not broadcastet in a manner that you can see all the atributes needed for playing squash, as long as Pro-Squash is full of ridicilous referee decicions that no one is understanding, as long as they are not able to make the white ball visible, so don ´t allow black ink on the strings, as long they do not have the courage for very little but important changes, there will never be exitement for squash from outside the squash-community.
Absolute disgrace, that there are "sports," like skateboarding, golf, equestrian and some other non sense like ribbon twirling but we can't make room for Squash. Those sports are also less accessible to majority of people; expensive to pick up and expensive to setup the necessary facilities! Almost seems racist how they support and favor some sports over others!
