I combined the oil painting and makeup brush cleaning technique together. This is the most effective and inexpensive (in my opinion) way to cleaning makeup brushes. I hope this is helpful, sorry for taking so long to make this video! If you are constantly breaking out, maybe you should check to see if your brushes are properly clean!

I kinda miss this Michelle... I know that some of y'all will be hating and declaring that I'd love her no matter what if I were truly a fan. I can see where you're coming from, but here's my point. She feels very distant. At first it was like a good friend or an older sister was showing me what I needed to do and her looks weren't all full of self advertising. Now I feel like she doesn't see her subs anymore. Y'all know what I'm talking about?

Idk I don't think she really changed. I think she got more creative and has more of a team to help her make videos and the editing is better in my opinion. She still has like smart tips but in a different presentation.

I feel the same. She seems like she doesn't 'know' her subs anymore. I watched her latest video and it just makes me sad. Most people who watch her recently (no offense) are fangirls and don't allow for anyone to say anything about her that isn't " OMG I LOVVVEEE YOOU"

I meant that this version of Michelle Phan seems real. Like a real human you'd meet on the street. She talks like a normal person and I trust her. To me, the "new and improved" Michelle Phan is a robot. She's marketing and sales and not relatable. She's fixed al her flaws and is now a generic pretty humanoid. I think people forget that flaws and kinks make them relatable and personable - I feel like she's a commercial of herself now. I switched off long ago. I liked this one much better.

Anybody with no brush guards, I dry my brushes as well as possible with a towel and tape them to a wall upside down. Sounds weird but my brushes keep their shape and the water doesn't drip down :D

I did everything you suggested in this video including ordering brush guards. Although I got a 15-piece set (3 different sizes) from an ebay seller in China for $1.50! I ordered 2 sets so i have 30 of them and they are fantastic!!! It took about a month to get them but they were worth the wait. I washed all my brushes and they look brand new. Thank you SO MUCH for this video Michelle. I used to get chronic mild eye infections to the point of not even wanting to wear make-up but theyre not bothering me now.

Hannah Harrelson yes I sure did. But when you have your brushes in a dish drying make sure they're in an area that gets good air circulation. And I always give mine a nice firm squeeze with a paper towel before putting the brush guard on. This gets a lot of water out. And actually, your brushes should be just as soft as they were before. Mine certainly were. The oil moisturizes them while the dish soap cleanses them. Just make sure to rinse them really well. And if you buy your brush guards off of eBay be sure to check the seller's feedback. Some of them have a pretty bad record but you can find good ones if you look :-).

Hannah Harrelson you are so welcome! Yeah it can take as long as a month to get them from China but sometimes they can come in as little as 1 and a half to 2 weeks depending on the seller as well as going through customs before leaving the country :-). But yeah it's an excellent technique. Yay.

I tried this and it actually works! You can wrap the brush up in paper towels and tape it to a wall if you can't get brush guards. :)

I just watched another current RU-vid beauty guru do almost the exact video- same technique, same tips, almost word for word! Her video was from 2014 and this is from 2010. Coincidence? I think not. I wish people would give credit where it's due. Thank you, Michelle Phan, for teaching us all how to clean brushes effectively and inexpensively.

I use the brush guards too! I've had them forever I randomly picked them up at wallmart and I LOVE them! I put them on my brushes when I'm traveling or when I go out and they're loosely in my makeup bag so they don't get all messed up!:)

I really liked Phan at this point she was cool , taught people make up and friendly. She showed emotion and looked like a real person. Now days its not the same. She seems kinda mindless and emotionless. Most of her videos recently are just boring. She doesn't have a personality anymore

I use dawn dish washing liquid already but I was using hair conditioner to condition mine, I'll try the method you said. You're a pro so you'd know. This is an old tutorial but I was searching new ideas for brush cleansers and came across this one❤️ I believe some ppl cannot read, saying "enter me" on a very old video. Smh

Even though this video is like 4 years old, it seriously WORKS I have a lot of natural and synthetic brushes with bright, neon colored hair and this really does get all the pigment out!! I'm absolutely amazed. Even before I washed the brushes out, I could truly see all the pigment come out!! Wayyyy more then before!! I used to wash with baby shampoo butttt not anymore :p

I wash and cleanse my brushes exactly the way that you do (now I don't feel so silly about my process) but I have never used olive oil, I am going to try that. Thanks for sharing the best way to dry them, now I know why I have had to glue the brushes back together so often; I am definitely going to buy some of those brush guards.

This didnt work out for me. It took so long for my brushes to completely dry because of the leftover oil that was so hard to remove even though i rinsed them plus the antibac liquid soap that was too strong and concentrated. I can still see some lather of soap when pinching my brush even though i rinsed them for like 3 times :(

It sounds like you used too much soap as well as too much oil. You just need a very small dab of dish soap on each brush and a teeny dab of oil. Then work it into a lather like you saw her do in the video. I have done it and it really worked great. I hope this helps :-)

i did this for a while, but your hand ends slightly sore and sensitive. for a single brush, is ok, but for 10, is too much water pouring on your palm. is unpleasant.

Do you have to use extra virgin olive oil or can i just use regular olive oil?

I think regular olive oil will be fine it's just extra virgin is less concentrated

I just cleaned all my brushes, even ones I stopped using over a year ago and considered trash in a box somewhere. They came out looking brand new. I really just thought you could use soap and water haha! Thank you Michelle!

This is the very first video I watched when I started learning how to use brushes. I still wash my brushes this way except I now use coconut oil instead of olive oil. Thank you Michele for teaching me this
