This made a MASSIVE difference to my mixed voice. It feels like my throat is now "unblocked". Before I would sing high in chest but if I need to go higher I'd have to consciously move to head voice. It'd be a jarring switch and sometimes I'd get it wrong and go too high in my chest. After doing the creaky door exercises I don't think of registers anymore. I just hit a note and regardless of the pitch it sounds full and there's no tension. I can now sing 4 Non-Blondes - What's Up with no tension. That song has some big pitch intervals and if you're thinking too much about switching chest/head it becomes confusing and exhausting.

This is a great technique! Your videos have really helped me develop a mix. It definitely comes easier after practicing it OFTEN, and combining it with the ideas you discuss in your other videos.

Super random. Today I felt like listening to music on RU-vid and saw a video of a dude talking about mixed voice. And then I watched another video of a guy singing Like A Stone and remembered your version from way back (I've replayed that version of yours a lot in 2018). And now here I am, watching your recent upload talking about mixed voice and making squeaky door noises for 16 minutes. Things just be crazy like that sometimes. Good stuff, man, and thanks for the lessons -- I learned a lot more from this video.

Ah thanks. I should revisit like a stone as I never even thought that original version I did was that great but 🤷‍♂️

Man, keeping those cords tightly adducted so that the sound is tiny and razor sharp, sure isn’t as easy as you make it look! 🤪

I have actually tried practicing that. It took some time and I kinda got it but it requires so much patience. Still couldn't sing songs with this mixed voice because I can't feel much freedom when I have to use so precise control and balance. The louder version of this mixed voice that i think is in your cry mixed voice video can warm up the vocal fry for this tiny version of this voice Also another thought this one artist Eve lowers his head during live perfomances on some notes. I wonder if it does the same effect as at 4:59. When I first tried to sing like him, I also was lowering my head and neck down and it really was helping although it doesn't mean that I have to let out more air

Thank you for this; with every video I seem to be getting a little closer. I can do pretty much all of the whining door sound as I go up in pitch, but when I start to add volume, then I feel the strain on my vocal chords and jaw muscles. Even though I think I am doing things correctly, obviously I am not. I noticed when you start to add power, the tone of your voice changes slightly. I get that as well, except it tires everything out. I'll keep going, except with less volume and hopefully I can eventually build my power up without getting sore.

When I first learned mixed voice I could only make one smaller sound. I talk about it in my cry technique video. Took me some time to open it up and learn how to manipulate it more.

Sterling when your doing the creaky door is your larynx low? Like a low is you can get it? I've been working on lowering my larynx for months so this creaky door exercise might be my next step to getting into mixed voice. You rock dude 🤘

For this ro be louder and feel connected to my chest like at 12:19 isn't sustainable unfortunately, air leaks . Not each time but most. And I've been trying to find a way for many years. Support seems to split it open

Great lesson again Sterling! Do you think vowel modification is really necessary to access high range? Also, what is your hourly rate for 1 to 1 lesson?
@SterlingRJackson
@SterlingRJackson 3 месяца назад
Vowel modification teaches you how to keep your throat open and your jaw/chin muscles out of the mix of things. It is important but you’ll learn it as you go. Currently charging $150 an hour for lessons. I teach people every week all around the world
