Sounds really interesting. Doesn’t really sound like a jazz bass but it’s got its own cool thing going for it. I just bought one omg these actually. I’m not usually a 5-string player but the neck is really nice.
Thanks for sharing Clifton! Your demo helped me make up my mind and I'm buying it! You play well! I'm primarily a guitarist, then a keyboardist. For some reason I want to play bass now! Enjoy!
No problem L Wade! It was such a great bargain and had such a great tone, I had to get my Son to record me playing it. The quality control is excellent, especially if you get it from Sweetwater. After inspection, they took a professional picture of my bass before shipping it off to me. I thought that was cool. Good choice! It’s one of the best bargain basses you can buy. After over a year, I still love it!
kman 4443 Man I know the felling!!! My wife gets on me all the time! In order to keep her happy I usually have to give up a bass in order to gain one. But any ways, the Squier is not going anywhere! The Sweetwater special edition is very nice! I played the regular contemporary jazz without the block inlays and there’s no comparison.
As a builder, My real first love (and what lead me to build) is modding. I’ve discovered that as long as the foundation (neck & body) is solid, you have a great instrument. We could have the standard discussion about high end PUs, ect. but as long as you have your foundation, literally everything else is easy to correct and perfect without expensive tools and a lot of skills. I just love great instruments like these without ridiculous price tags!
Well said my friend! I still have this bass. I’ve since then added Bartolini soap bars, a Glockenklang 3 band pre, and hipshot bridge. I love the look and sound.
@@clifnotes9091 I’ve got a boutique 6 string bass that’s got Bartolini’s and I’m actually a fan of them. Getting close to 50 years with the bass, and like you apparently, I love changing things to suit me and my wants and needs. I don’t know how it’s gonna work or sound, but I’m actually in the process of scalloping a long scale 4 string neck, just to see. I just might have the only completely scalloped neck, as I’ve never heard of one. That’s some real donkey work though.
@@clifnotes9091 even better, originality!!! I would actually love to get a Geddy Jazz, but. Would have to redo it so it didn’t look like a Geddy. (Make it my own)
Didn’t realize these came with the block inlays. Looks good with the black pick guard. Been thinking about getting a dark tortoise shell pick guard for mine.
It has slight weight but, it weighs the same or lighter than other 5 string jazz bass I’ve owned in the past. I’m used to lifting heavy instruments, so it weighs nothing to me.😁 Try using a thicker more padded strap.
I hope to get me one either that or an Ibanez or Esp multiscale bass, that would be cool. I have lots of work to do to just get in a solid groove these days during Covid19 it's been hard to concentrate on my music. I just wish for it be to be normal again, social distancing can be the main issue, it can cut your musicians life short, stay safe and God bless.
Hodari Daniels Ibanez and ESP are a great alternative. They make awesome basses. Yes covid-19 has been a drag for my saxophone and bass gigs! I’m just taking this as an opportunity to get better on my bass since I’ve been playing saxophone all my life. May God’s blessing be upon you and stay safe my friend.
Saludos
@@clifnotes9091 Yessir! One of the greatest saxophonists on earth is also an incredible bassist. I'm sure you've heard of him-Gerald Albright! Dude is no joke on bass!
Yes the pickups are the key to why the bass sounds like it does. The stock SQR pickups are the best! Unfortunately the pickups are active and don’t work with passive preamps.
Mikee Rivera Yes this is the Sweetwater edition. It took about a month for them to get them back in stock. It may take longer because of Covid-19. But to me it was worth the wait.
@@clifnotes9091 oh ok. Yea i was thinking the same shipping might take longer. Thats good bro congrats on that awesome bass !!! Gotta stay jamn especially during these times. !!!
It’s definitely a bass that’s meant to be played so if having that done will enhance playability and you have the money to get it done, then go for it. Try it first, it may not need it.
Most definitely. With the master tone wide open, It has a lot more clarity, punch, growl than your average jazz bass. I don’t play with a pick at all but I could imagine that it would sound very nice in a rock setting. Keep in mind this is the Sweetwater Edition with the block inlays. I played the regular Squier Contemorary V HH that had really dead strings and it did not sound like mine.
It’s such a great sounding and playing bass, with good looks to match. Great bargain! I’m playing it through a Peavey 210TX Combo. The EQ was totally flat on the combo.
How much you paid for this bass brother? They no longer have it on the website, but I’m close to buy a used one, I want to make sure they are not ripping me off
@@cellynovilela6282 Infelizmente eles não fazem mais esse baixo específico com incrustações de bloco. Foi uma edição limitada da Sweetwater. Você pode encontrar um usado no eBay ou Reverb.
How do you like that bass so far? I’ve been looking at one for a while. Was gonna get the 5 string tho sw is currently out of them and only have the 4 strings left
I love the bass! It’s the best Squier I’ve ever played! Keep a look out as they sellout as soon as they get them in. Before I got mine I was on a waiting list. You may want to consider that if you want to guarantee one the next shipment.
Clifton Brady it’s a beautiful bass altho I would of loved to get a Black Cloud version (Misa from Band-Maid)‘s all black bass. Tho not sure where to even get one customized like that. So I settled for this one.
Mason DeVoe I also like all black basses. Thus the reason why I got this one. My previous Fenders and Squiers all had block inlays. The matte finish on this bass with the maple fretboard really make those block inlays stand out. I love it!
Clifton Brady I know all bass necks are different but have you notice any dead spots on ? The one squire I have has a dead spot around the 5th 6th fret on the G string and I can’t unhear it lol
Mason DeVoe I haven’t noticed any dead spots on the neck at all. On the vid I stay around that 5th fret area and it sounds the same all over. It’s a very lively bass compared to the regular Squier Contemporary jazz bass V that I tried at my local Guitar Center.
On this particular clip, I have no earthly clue! They were the strings that came with the bass. I assume that they were Fender strings. I since then have used “Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalts” and “D’Addario ProSteels” and I love those more.
Thanks Bro! The sound is coming out of a Peavey 210TX combo with everything flat. Yes, I literally got it out of the box, tuned it and plugged it in! If you notice the plastic is still around the EQ knobs. 😄
I’ve read somewhere the 5 strings weigh around 11 lbs. the 4 strings will probably weigh about 9-10 lbs. I’ve played basses that are 13 lbs so it’s very light to me!😄
Domenator Gamer I ordered this bass from Sweetwater. It’s their exclusive edition. The direct link to the site is located at bottom of the video description.
I respect your comment and honesty. It’s been almost 2 years of owning this bass. Since then, I’ve replaced the pickups ,preamp and bridge. But, I still think it’s a great bass for the price.
