Toccata et fugue en Ré mineur de J.S. BACH. Originalement écrit pour orgue, transcrit pour ensemble de 9 saxophones par Pascal BONNET. Exécuté lors d'un concours à Paris en 2007.
It`s fantastic, fenomenal!!!Never heard such a great Sax Enseble, which sounds like one instument!BRAVOOO!!!!Every classical saxophonist schout be proud to haverepresentatives like this!!!
It's very interesting to play Bach in a Saxophone ensemble... I really enjoyed the performense. Congradulations! :) Still proving that Saxophone can do everything
Wow, the sound at 1:01 is intriguing. Almost sounds like a steel drum ;) Awesome tonal blend, I agree with other comment about being more 'daring' at the opening, but I've heard so many arrangements/performances of this piece- I imagine everyone has their favorite interpretation, especially of the opening. Bravo! A treat to hear such an awesome piece of music arranged for saxophone.
Muy bueno! Tuve la suerte de escucharos en Montefrío, en el castillos de La Villa, y precisamente con esta pieza de Bach. De verdad Increíble, es un gusto escucharos en directo. Félicitations!
Yes it is. It's 1 Octava lower than a tenor saxophone, and a fifth lower than a baritone saxophone. Another saxophone is lower : the Tubax, made by bendict epfelscheim. You can find videos of it in youtube I think.
@DesertFox101 Due to the nature of acoustics and the type of recording, higher frequencies are going to be much more present than low. This was clearly filmed on a small handheld camera with a built-in mic - ie one that was designed with the intention of catching spoken word much more than high quality music. In a large space, low frequencies will spread non-directionally, losing a lot of their presence when not directly mic'ed. High frequencies are directional, hence their high presence.
I suppose I should clarify. Perhaps it's my speakers, or perhaps it's the quality of the recording, but the first time I listened to this, that was indeed my reaction. I won't deny that this is an incredibly talented group, and much better in all respects than myself (I'm only a high school senior), but that isn't going to stop me from stating an observation and an opinion. At any rate, that sarcasm wasn't warranted.
Wonderful presentation of this excellent piece. I think you could be a bit more daring at the beginning- and I agree with universalstrengh, some notes could be longer, but - more important- together. Especially the ends. Love the fine-sounding sopranos on the fugue. btw- the tubax is made by Eppelsheim, an amazing instrument and very woody sounding in the top register. Fancy listening to a different version of the Toccata? Listen to our rendering:-) Quintessence Saxophone Quintet.
A superb and inspiring performance of the Bach Toccata & Fugue! Great sound, clarity and musicality. I hope anyone reading this also checks our your Handel 'Water Music' piece.
That's a contrabass. Baris are sometimes confused for basses becasue they're mor similar than those are. Basses can be worn. Contrabasses need that stand. You cannot wear that saxophone up there onstage. It's a contrabass, not merely a bass.
