Looks like all y'all had a lot of fun and took out a bunch of limb chickens. Hope you have a good recipe like "Limb Chick a-la Crow Feather" that we serve up at the Shawnee Squirrel Hunt every September. Our hunt is not a contest but there is a lot of good comaraderie in the camp every evening. On Saturday night we have a potluck supper and that's where I cooked up about 15 fried squirrels. It is a family friendly camp and several wives and children always attend. We had a big pone of cornbread, a pot of pinto beans, a big skillet of fried potatoes along with everything else people brought. There were always cakes, pies and cookies. After that we went to the campfire and the ones who brought musical instruments entertained the camp. The only hunting contest we had was Sunday when we had an iron sights contest. No scopes allowed. There were always a few donated (by the hunters) prizes for the winner. That's the best group of friends I ever hunted with, but we all went our own way in the morning when we went out to hunt. Hunting was solitary endeavor. Most of us used .22 rifles, some used .17 rimfire, and some used shotguns. Dogs were welcome but hardly anyone brought a dog because there were more snakes than dogs. Big bad snakes and straight up and down rugged terrain. Limit was 5 squirrels per day with possession limit of ten, so we ate a lot of squirrels all week.
