On April 8, 1992, muslim commander Naser Orić was appointed head of the police station in Srebrenica. Orić organized his death squads, which in the three years of the war killed over 3,280 Serbs and ethnically cleansed around 100 Serbian villages in Podrinje. And several concentration camps were built in Srebenica itself. Just before the Army of Serbian Republic was to liberate Srebenica on July 11, 1995, Naser Orić escaped by helicopter to Sarajevo and thus avoided arrest. After the war, he was judged at the Hague Tribunal, where he was acquitted even though he personally participated in crimes against Serbs (for example, he killed judge Slobodan Ilić and others).
