I’ve only been trained how to use the SRS or SRT system once, but for my job we are climbing with the DRT system. It’s what I prefer, but it can be quite tiring. But I’m so used to it that I don’t see myself using a newer climbing system any time soon. I would like to learn more on how to climb using the SRT system down the road because it does seem easier. Awesome video!

Excellent intro tutorial, believe it or not I'm 60 and just thinking about learning SRT. I still need a Rope Wrench to have all the basics. You are a natural-born instructor. I wished we were in the same area I would love to have basic lessons. I have one guy here who is a real pro but he keeps blowing me off. I can already put install and retrieve a friction saver from the ground, and climb with heels and a double lanyard, just need to get onto a SRT. God bless young lady.

Both systems look good. The single line system is probably better because of getting to use your legs to do most of the work. If you had to carry extra weight up the rope with you, pulling with only your arms and hip thrust on the double system would tire you out very fast in this scenario. For example if you attached a 25 free weight between your legs hooked into a carabiner. I believe you would want to use your legs to ascend in a scenario like that. Some people need to carry tools and those can end up weighing up to 40 lbs. Definitely take a lot of conditioning to get strong enough to do this, so hitting the weights is important. They say you can learn a lot from a dummy. I been climbing for 54 years, finally fell and broke a hip. Yup now I'm a dummy. But all this new gear is fantastic and now I'm grounded, so now I teach my 3 grandsons safety first, last and always. No trips to the ER please. Girl you have a wonderful life ahead of you, so glad to see some girls getting into climbing, tree camping and all. Greatcvideo, keep em coming and stay safe😊

Hello Katie, to have an acces rope in the tree is no "law thing" in germany... more a backup for rescue, so one rope is always free! Nils from germany

Nice video. As an old newbie I really appreciate your thorough and careful teaching style. Have you ever used 2 systems on a single bridge with a single attachment ring? ..... if so, how do you keep the (e.g.) 3 carabiners all attached to the same ring from interfering with each other, etc.? I cant believe all the gear you use. When I was in the trade, our best friend was a 40 ft ladder, 5/8 nylon rope, and a. taught line hitch! We got technical if we used a double crotch. Oh, and we painted all our cuts with a can of tar hanging off the scabbard. Nuts. Looks good for your safety. My supervisor was from Kew Gardens, your gear was for rock climbers only. Great video.

When on a DRT system, and away from the trunk, maybe try foot locking, I find it a lot easier than body thrusting

as a total novice the single rope seems a better system, I am looking for a training centre to get some training, just for the fun of learning how to do it.

I agree, yet I KEEP reading that it is important/worthwhile to learn how to climbing on a DRT system first or also. I haven't research everyone's reasoning yet, but I imagine it's just to be more familiar with options and if you leave a piece of gear (or it breaks) you can still get the work done or get down from the canopy.

I still like to foot lock on a double rope to get upstairs. When I learned how to climb boss man wouldn't let me touch a mechanical device until I learned how to safely climb only using rope and split tails. He was a dick but because of him I'm a knot book.

I agree....Learn how to climb the "old fashioned" way and you will much more appreciate the gear used today. Nothing like Foot lock 50' up onto a large bare branch and having enough strength to pull yourself up onto the limb unprotected...and then tie yourself in once you are on the branch....I learned to climb professionally at age 15 (1975). Learn to climb your pole saw to the branch above you....climbing was a blast in the old days. 🤣 and a lil dangerous..😲

which system damages the rope the least? the mechanical prusic or the prusic rope in the SRT system with the Rope Wrench ISC + Double Tether I personally lean more towards the SRT system, because your rope can't rub against anything and it climbs faster.

as a newbie to the industry, im wondering how you get your anchor in the tree without first climbing the tree and how you retrieve your rope and hardware. ive seen climbers use the double rope system using a blakes hitch. they use a throw line to get the rope in the tree and can untie their friction hitch and pull the rope out. forgive me for my ignorance

Try to see a tree in three parts, trunk, scafold branches that give the structure and are not usually covered in leaves and then the secondary branches that produce leaves. We prune in the secondary branches usually. So you can climb progressively if it is like a ladder but when the scafold branches start high you can use a ladder or a throwline. You can hand throw max 8m but the throwline can get 25m. These disrances are important as some trees will have large distances between the scafold branches making throwing a rope by hand difficult. A throwline with a catapult will put your rope above the scafold branches eliminating hand throws. Once in the secondary branches, hand throwing is fine if its not full of small branches or ivy. It is good to be good at progressive climbing and throwing the rope by hand as trees with structural damage or any other problems can be visualy inspected from a shorter distance. 25m away is difficult to see. Two last points, try to instal your throw line where the scafold finishes and the secondary start and as central as possibile. Finally KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Dont over complicate yourself, have systems that are fool proof and practice to make it as repetative as possible, I have seen guys not realise that they have no fall protection because they did not realise how the system worked.

i prefer UK method, it give some kind redundancy, so if one rope is fail because sh*t happen, i still have another rope to safe me plus i don't want lanyard to be my only failsafe, and people, learn how to self rescue and/or aerial rope rescue it is esential skill in our line of work

Can you imagine if you looked at the other innovators of the world and gave them the common courtesy that they rightfully deserve building strongest mechanical device in the world do you know how far you will go? Because I don't know how far you'll go but I know how far common Sense will and as long as the United States patents and tradesmark office has given me the right lane including all Lanes plus or minus five products with nobody coming behind me or in front of me on my current measurements of the z runner I don't understand what all the hatred is in this world where I don't get a break being able to show them the most functional product in the world with an 85,000 pound breaking strength
