I have so much respect for guys like you who keep these obscure platforms moving forward. Focus svt mazdaspeed protege caliber srt4...the forgotten 2000s high schooler hero cars
Thanks for this video. I was losing hope since I have a 2007 Dodge Caliber RT (AWD) and the automatic transmission is SO lack luster. I want to convert it to manual, but didn't think there was a manual transmission that I could mate with this engine. So I have a different but similar goal...make an automatic AWD to a manual AWD. Looking forward to the videos where you show how you fixed the oil pan and bottom engine clearance issues.
The Jeep Patriot is the same as the caliber and Mitsubishi Outlander! I have caliber srt4 seats in my Jeep Patriot and love it along with the 19 inch wheels and front brakes! I pretty much made a baby trackhawk.
Great video and editing! I can't wait to see where this takes Gewch. I for one actually like seeing the boring parts filled with failures and mishaps. It helps keep my own expectations in check and the payoff is even greater when you finally get it right!
As a past owner of a srt4 .... I've always wondered if a person like you would come along to bring about the awd movement. I've owned a good amount of cars (s2k, civic si k20 swap, dodge challenger rt, Ford sho 3.5 awd turbo, audi a4 just to name a few) I still over the years wanted a srt4 again but with awd. Now I'm certain I need to get one. I subscribed and looked forward to more. Just know. There are hundreds if not thousands of people who are willing to do this swap and pay the right amount once you get the prices down.
Honestly, there’s like two things to really figure out and it could be a really simple swap. I will do more updates when I get around to driving it some more. Thanks man 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thats dope man. I always wish they would made an csrt4 awd . From factory and now your making it . Thats awesome .much respect! Cant wait to see your final product .im still working on making my csrt4 to run fast haha.
What a great video technically explaining what it takes to make the CSRT4 AWD,I have a 2008 SRT4 that I brought from Canada in 2009 with 25000km now I have 130000km on it ,me and my son now a mechanical Engineering do a bit of car racing ,shifter kart racing and dirt bikes racing, we work ourselves in our projects and racing modifications, and know how much work it takes to do this kind of mods, think design and try it takes some time, that's why we understand when you said it takes a bit of work to do this (A LOT)but when you love doing it the results are the best payoff , we always are thinking we have to do 4wd the Srt4 because we have enter the caliber in about 5 hill climbing races for street cars over tarmac surface, the car is amazing good for it even do is pretty much stock, we just have KN air filter,65lb/hr injectors, clutchmastes 250,3 inch straight pipe no muffler and a heavy foot, we have beat some good cars like Bmw ix,Subaru wrx,Mazda etc, even when we don't push the car to it's limits because roll cage it was not mandatory for this class until 2016 when we enter and now we don't want to screw the car interior with it.anyway watching your build it gives us a clear view and advice of the parts, time and mods for it,its a little hard to get Evo parts down here in Ecuador, but we'll be looking for them now in case we decide to do it,and we'll be expectant to see your amazing project fully finish ,congratulations again my friend.
I love that someone knows these cars to the T. I've read so much and basically rebuilt my entire car from top to bottom. They're a pain but so much fun If I had the money I'd be trying to catch you
Loved the video, man. Your editing in the beginning was fantastic! Constantly pushing our platform to heights previously thought to be unattainable. I am fascinated to see where you take this and end up! Let's see those solutions you're talking about! A question... what's your particular fascination and/or affinity for the Caliber SRT4? I have my reasons, for sure, but I'm intrigued to know yours since you seem firm to take it over the Evo X.
Thanks man I’m just a sucker for different cars. I’ve had several calibers since 2008 and still have yet to see anybody really push them. I’ve never seen another one at any event I go to, and everyone is pretty interested when they see it and have no idea what it is.
@@rustynutsmedia Agreed. I just went to a tire shop today for some tires for my 2008 CSRT4 (I’m the original owner. Bought it new in 09) and a dude told me that it’s the first one he’s seen on the road. He said he’s seen 2 that where totaled and scraped for parts and 1 that his buddy has that’s down for mechanical failures. Not many left on the road considering they didn’t make many.
@@rustynutsmedia so much work. 🤦 And please please make the vid on the reverse lockout cable, or reverse linkage whatever it's called lol. I will love you forever 🤣🤣👌
Can you drop a video on step you took to build your caliber I have a stocked one but I wanna fully build it but nobody on RU-vid can help 💯 but good video man 😃
Hey thanks man. Yeah I could do a video like that. And as soon as my garage is built, I’ll be doing more videos on the AWD setup and what went in to making it all work together 🤘🏼
Evo X ladder frame will not work on the 4b12 block. The caliber rear diff does not match the Evo transfer case drive ratio so it will not work together with it.
Funfact: the Dodge Caliber SRT4 was supposed to be AWD, but due to budget cuts at SRT they had to compromise and had to make it FWD. Power had to be cut down too, as there were rumors of 330-350hp first (which is now down to 285/295hp).
And I got screwed on the other side of Dodge. I have a jeep compass 2.4 L all-wheel-drive, but no turbo no power although it has a automatic slap shifter in it.
The alternator is made that way to shut off when not needed and u can use the rt awd tank with the harness from the 4x4 from my other comment will plug and play and your tank will register correctly
I have to disagree with that statement about the alternator “shutting off”. It’s an OAD pulley, it contains a one way clutch and a torsional spring. Basically it absorbs vibrations from the engine and lets the alternator slow down gradually when shifting or shutting down the engine. Have you used the AWD tank and harness on a CSRT?
Couple questions. 1 are the splines that goe into the translation the same as the caliber spines? You said you used evo hubs with axles and trans. Could you use caliber trans and evo axles and hubs? Next question. Did you say you can drop a evo block in just fine? If so would that fix the transfer case hitting the block issue?
Axle splines are different. They are not the same. I’m sure you could drop in an Evo block if you wanted to go that route and yes, that would fix that issue. But I will say I do not have first hand experience in that, so I can’t say 100%
Video is great. Idk if you looked into it but do you think the girdle off the 4b11 could bolt onto the caliber block? I l know the motors are super similar but that would solve the problem of transfer case clearance
R/t awd is only automatic but I know how to make evox ayc rear work with the hydraulic pump from the evox using the stock chrysler electronics ur gonna need the harness from the compass or patriot 4x4 5 speed with the 4x4 controller I'm still looking into the caliber rt awd controller and plug it in and the computer is supposed to automatically recognize the controller and then take the wire for the stock rear end and run the wires to the ayc pump and enjoy also don't forget for easy install use the rt caliber awd front subframe it comes with the steering rack automatically set up to clear the ptu and drive shaft
The CSRT steering rack already clears the driveshaft. No need to swap front subframes. And have you confirmed any of this? Do you have it together and working or are you just saying these things “should” work? Not trying to be rude but I don’t want wrong information on the video.
I've done the 4x4 swap from the patriot/compass to the caliber and found out the hard way I had to swap the front sub frame while I was in a rent a shop so I wasted money on the lift locating and getting sub frame with steering rack from a compass
I have just the opposite problem. I have a 2008 Jeep compass 2.4 L all-wheel-drive I cannot find any parts for the compass aftermarket so I am referring to the Dodge caliber SRT what parts will fit on my compass from the SRT.?
@@rustynutsmedia any information on aftermarket parts for performance because this thing does not get out of its own way. heard about Mitsubishi headers that fit and wondering about where I could find the intercooler turbo set up
That's awesome! I always thought the srt4 would have been a more serious car if they had done it awd. I shouldn't ask this but what did it cost you? And how many hours?
If it’s possible to swap an entire Evo X setup into a Caliber, it should be possible to swap it into a FWD Lancer? I have a 2012 ES 5 speed that I plan to use for time attack in the future. Any info would definitely help.
Hey I have one curious question idk if I missed it or not but for the CV shafts what was your option there? im trying to 6 speed swap my lancer and I'm using this as a backwards engineering tactic lol thanks for any information
If you’re referring to the Evo 8 or 9 trans, that’s a totally different engine/trans than the Evo X which is what I talk about here. That would not be compatible with the evo 4b11 or the caliber 4b12
Question i want to build my stock csrt4 engine where and what parts do i get something mild 400-500hp maybe 700 seems like everywhere I look can't find anything or I'm not looking for the right stuff
so rusty nuts media i do have a question for your expertise im not going to do the awd swap yet :( funds :( but i did just blow my t355 in half do you know if the f5m42 from the lancer gt will bolt to my gema 2.4 theyre engine is gema based aswell i think itd be considered the 4b12 i found one for sale 500.00 only 5k mi on it and money wise im not sure if itll fit or not its only fwd
I wouldn’t be 100% sure on swapping those. I only have experience with the Getrag from the SRT4 and the Evo GSR 5spd. The bell housing bolt patterns probably align, but you’d have to look at all other factors to see if it would match up
@@1teddy1979 the caliber AWD was automatic CVT trans. The transfer case is smaller than the Evo X (mostly due to the Evo clutch packs), and the rear diff wouldn’t hold one launch from what I can tell. I would say not worth attempting it as you’d 100% break stuff at stock power levels.
