I've been trying to figure out El Mocambo Texas Flood licks for a few years now. It's awesome to see someone else's attempt at some of these, especially 7:12 Texasbluesalley channel has quite a few licks from this performance as well.
Hi Mike, I love this teaching format of listening to a part from a song and then showing the process of breaking it down. All the little bits of info you throw in are great. Just watching your picking hand I pick up a lot of technique with how you attack the strings and do reverse rakes. Love your little wing inspired jam at the end Awesome as usual!!
Thanks for all the quality content Mike. Am thoroughly enjoying all of it and getting a lot from it. Would love a breakdown of your arrangement of The Way It Is someday. Keep it burnin'! 🔥
I must say it’s incredibly disappointing to see the confirmation video taken down. You’re two previous videos on Charlie Parker tunes are among my favorites. I can appreciate you wanting to make it more accessible to less advanced players, but less advanced players love nothing more than to hear virtuosos players and in doing so aspire to be better. Perhaps more importantly...the opening phrase in Texas flood that incorporates the chromatics and triplet is a clear bebop influence which should be all the blues rock players in the audience need to peek their interest in Charlie Parker and take notes. Even if SRV did not get it from Charlie Parker himself, he most certainly got it from listening to other blues players that had bebop on their radios growing up. From a commerce perspective, If you were trying to monetize and sell the more “advanced” lessons through some outside means I would understand and would even be a customer. But the explanation that the Charlie Parker lessons are too cumbersome for your audience is just not a perspective that is rooted in truth...in fact it’s rooted in foolishness.
Hey Kyle.. When I watched it back something didn't sit right with me from a teaching perspective... I'll give it a few days & either re upload... or do it again... or find a better way to present the Charlie Parker stuff... thanks for your impassioned comment (..apart from the foolishness bit... ha!;-)
