Got to see him up-close twice: once in San Fran Warfield Nov 1984 and second row in Sacto Aug 1987. Midway through that show in between songs me and my pals were so jacked up that SRV smiled/pointed at us, then drew Tommy's attention to us, he smiled too and shook his head. we died & went to heaven.
In 79 I was living on 32nd street and the Rome Inn was on 29th. I'd often hit the ROme Inn 2X a week-SRV and the Fab T'Birds. Life was great and rent in Austin was cheap
Yes. Correct. SRV opened for / toured with the T-Birds regular 1979 through 1981. I saw them at the Rome Inn except it was in 1981 and SRV was dressed exactly the same, so l dated this pic at '81. But '79 could be correct too. Or 1980.
We shared a few gigs with SRV in July 1980 at Skip Willy's in San Antonio. The owner Skip Wells fired SRV after the 2nd or 3rd time because nobody showed up and they took a 2 hour break because they were so f*cked up they couldn't play. At least until the drugs arrived. Then they finished the night. We were hired the next Thursday to go on before SRV. We packed the place and were paid $900. SRV was paid $50. Stevie found out and went back in screaming. Skip gave them an extra $100 and never hired them back. SRV only had an audience when Jimmy let them sit in with the T-Birds.
This is April 1982 l believe. SRV opened for the Sir Douglas Quintet in February 1982 at Pappy's in San Antonio and he did not have that guitar yet. Right after that the band left for LA to record the Texas Flood album at Sound City.
