The 5/8/2023 Steamrail Victoria ran their ever annual successful Snow train to Traralgon with the duo of R711 and R761 once again heading the fully booked out train of 14 carriages.
Beginning the day at Seddon, the hudsons power up the grade towards Seddon before backing off and rolling through the station, then onto Toorak and an MTM service came very close to blocking out the tow engines as they
break the tranquility after cresting Toorak bank, then onto Narree Warren where the two power on by. Next up, not far west of Garfield Station, the train nears the top of another mild grade and this time a V/line service almost blocks the Snow train as the two cross each other. Then onto Darnum where the train coasts by after dropping down through a dip and over the Moe River. Then onto watching the train depart Moe, with once again a spectacular departure from the station before then getting them dropping down Traralgon bank into Traralgon.
now getting to the shunting, R711 had already moved off the train and to the turntable while R 761 pulls the whole train out of the platform and into the center road to stable before then moving round to the turntable to see 761 be turned in preparation of the return run.
The return run would see R761 now lead the train, but all the still, requiring the effort of 2 to lift the 14 car train out of Traralgon. Then onto Hearns Oaks where once again the effort of 2 Rs is needed to lift the train out of the loop and onto the main. After Hearns Oak, the train is captured at Speed passing through Yarragon and Nar Nar Goon, then to end, the train coasts through Malvern station after making a drop off stop at Caulfield.
