I live in Australia and I have owned a current model Rexton for a few months now and I absolutely love it. Great value, unbeatable value really, very quiet and smooth, fully equipped, large and practical, strong and robust, list goes on. A great car for here as it can deal with every road type and Ssangyong’s have proven to be very reliable and have a passionate loyal following here. Pininfarina styles this one, inside and out, and they did the NVH work, as Pinin. is owned by Mahindra & Mahindra, who owned Ssangyong at the time. Very quiet at cruise. Great car, love it.
I loved it here Matthew and it would definitely be a workhouse if I had one. I know SsangYong owners are very loyal. In the same vain as Subaru and Škoda owners.
I used to drive Lexus NX and it was a great car. But I’m much happier now with my Rexton ELX. As you mentioned, the smooth drive train, quiet cabin and proven reliability are mind blowing and anyone considering 4x4 really should test drive one instead of blindly going with the Prado or the likes. This is a better car than all of them I can attest.
I really love cars such as this. I have fond memories of a previous car, the original Kia Sorento which had the same aim as this one. An honest, tough 4x4, plenty of space and loads of kit but can actually tackle more than a grassy verge. I hope that the next gen is an EV. All these features AND EV torque would be amazing. A great review Dave. Some may think old school is a derogatory term but, in this case it’s an absolute compliment.
Save £10K+ on a LC or Discovery. Long-term details of reliability are difficult to find but the warranty is only equalled by Kia. A great review of an under-rated car.
As a Ssangyong owner on my second in twenty three years I have always been impressed with the build quality when looking to replace my old 1999 Musso in 2019 seriously looked at the Rexton one accessory I would have wanted was the 120w socket in the middle seat console instead of the 12v the way you were talkin no longer an optional extra sadly I was put of by the small boot at the time I was a full time carer for a family member so needed space for mobility equipment so purchased the MK5 Musso and put a hardtop on not regretted the decision plus now cheaper on road tax.
Great review, honest and practical. We have test drove one and were very impressed. Four down sides were no spare tyre, 7 seats, second row do not fold flat and my pet hate having blank buttons. However at this price point there is nothing out there with the technical capabilities for hauling large loads (caravans, horse boxes etc) that Kia and Hyundai have chosen not to support any longer with higher prices and reduced capability using DCT and smaller engines). Ssangyong have been clever with the pricing keeping it out of the 5 year extra road tax levy even with metallic paint.
Hi Dave really enjoyed your review ! I use to drive nissan np300 which was really good but swopped it after 3 years for a jaguar f pace r sport ! Itest drove the rexton other day and was good but notice the accelerator pedal travel was long travel before felt anything and the engine bit clattery start up and on load plus mpg bit low ! You any thoughts please ! I like the looks and the work horse style but I feel am coming down from Jag I prob am ! Can I get use to its character . Cheers Paul 👍
Many thanks Dave for convincing me more of why I had a love at first sight with this BEAST! The company has dealerships all over Iraq and a couple of days ago I visited one in Baghdad. I wanted to go SUV coming from a Camry 2008, Made in Aystralia, by the way, and I was looking here and there for options with good value for money. From the outside look, I said this is it! Jumped in and got the feeling of a classic SUV, practical, robust and keeping out of the league of current over-digitalized models that look like smart phones! Almost all the videos coming from Australia with positive views about it. Iraq has the same weather conditions and almost the same terrain of Ausralia. 🏵🌺
Good honest review. This is going to be my third Rexton. Yep, once we have one we stick with the brand. I tried really hard to find something else that comes in under the luxury car tax bracket, can tow at least 2.5tons and has the features of this car. There's nothing else like it. I'd like the option to only have 5 seats (as was possible with the Rexton W and the pre-facelift current model, but hey, I just need to learn how to use the boot differently.
@@watto7728 I've been a Rexton owner for 7 years, had a Kia Sorento before that. Each generation of Rexton has improved comfort and tech. The 7 seats in the new model is going to be a compromise for me but the car drove beautifully and I have enough room in the boot for my needs. Hopefully get it in a couple of weeks
Dave, you didn't mention the side buttons to adjust the passenger seat when the good lady is having 40 winks, nice touch. Agreed the bleeping !!! I think its quite quick for its size. Agree front grab handle? We also note lots of handles for driver disappearing is this a safety feature, two hand on wheel blaa blaa, MG HS no driver roof handle now. Third row Mmmm but has good width seats. Dissagree with glove box comment its bigger than many. You might have noticed I'm a fan this is my second Rexton. Agree with hill decent and USB in front. Defo an eye catcher and conversation starter. I pull mini digger and a caravan. Heated middle row seats class. On big issue Sun has reflected badly on mddle consul slide pockets. Also touch sensative light and door locks lights are excellent and very bright. REXTON door cill lights up. So much more to mention. But love the report, nice.
Hi there Paul. Thank you very much for your comment. Yes there is a lot to talk a little on the new Rexton but if I covered everything, I’d have an hour long review and no one would watch lol. It really is an impressive car.
Seems quite a nice car would have to be a Diesel one for me I’ve noticed that the service intervals are quite short 12.5 k and the b service is £500 I like the 150k warranty 7 years or which ever comes first I think the big problem for me with this car is the poor mpg I no it’s a big car but 32 is low the big question would I buy one ? No not for me but that’s not to say it’s a bad car if you are looking for a tow car or off road than it’s fine
They have bounced back sales in Australia are strong and the only issue is that they are exporting more of the new model and don't have enough for the home market. I can still get parts for my old Daewoo badged Musso going through the owners club supplier based in Holland. Ssangyong is very popular in Korea with some companies getting long wheelbase Musso's without the load bed and converting them into campervans, Sadly they don't export them and Ssangyong UK don't have any plans to sell them after the failure of the Tourismo conversion.
It’s weird the way that in every single review I’ve seen of the Rexton nobody ever mentions that the way the load area is designed it could do a dog some real damage getting in and out, especially in. That 4-5” extra inches is a disaster and when a dog jumps on it could really hurt itself thanks to that awful big gaping gap.
Love this car, however because of the design of the boot it’s no good for a dog owner whose dogs go in the boot. It’s just too high and then there’s the extra 5” gap which can be dangerous. Shame Ssangyong overlooked dog owners.
Hi there Chloe. Thank you very much for your comment and yes I should’ve mentioned about the boot lip height and the extra heights in the floor, Especially as I’m a dog owner myself.
Sorry your wardrobe put me off even before the video went more then 30 seconds if you are going to go on camera spend some time and dress for it , dress like you know what you are talking about
“Dress like you know what you are talking about” Thank you for the comment but you have really started Monday with a brain teaser! Also, why is my clothing an issue? Shorts and a polo shirt?! Were you expecting a 3 piece?
Im not surprised this company has gone into liquidation....anyone with this kind of money will not buy this badge....dinosaur vehicle that looks bulky and old.
They have been bought by another company. A Land cruiser top of the range is £57K and Disco is £59K. That is great value for money. As mentioned it is a niche market it is aimed at.
Hi Stephen, SsangYong are now owed by Edison Motors Consortium, a South Korean company with it's focus on electric vehicles. I've had my SsangYong Rexton Ultimate for about 6 weeks and I find it to be a comfortable car. I paid $56 000 Australian dollars for mine. For that money I could find nothing comparable to tow my 3t van. Happy Days here. Good review Dave. I do like watching reviews where this beast is taken off road. 🙂
It's a great car a crossover between urban and off road vehicle with all the comfort that it has. A close competitor to kia and Hyundai for sure. It just needs to find a stable parent company. Hopefully it'll stay in korea cos that's where it belongs.
Strange people are so biased must have the biggest brand and spend thousands more my old Ssangyong out lasted a neighbours BMW which was eight years younger a Range rover and a Nissan all a lot younger in the time I owned it there was never a recall for any defects. Ssangyong are going strong as sales in Australia are proving so check your facts first before you put a post up I have been approached by people asking about the vehicle with comments I like the looks of it and where is the nearest dealership so not everyone thinks it looks bulky and old
