This video will be on one of the most widely influential helmets in the world the Soviet ssh-40.
This helmet would be used by almost every com block country in the world and would prove to be a very simple and effect design. This helmet would come out of the Soviet experience in the winter and a need for a cheaper helmet that would integrate better with new winter gear thus the ssh39 was born but would prove to be to complicated so the liner would be simplified resulting in the long lasting ssh40. This helmet would continue to serve in one form or another with some countries until the 90’s subsequent improved designs are still in use to this day as of 2022. The helmet is made of a disc of steel pressed into shape it has a raw edge and a simple riveted two point cotton chinstrap. The liner is made by riveting 3 thin sheet metal bars to the shell pinching the tarpaulin liner pads between the bars and shell. This helmet would vent well and cover well in the summer with its large size and pad arrangement. During the winter the large size accommodated the new ushanka ear flap winter hat very well in cold climates. Hopefully you liked this video and subscribed if you like this sort of stuff.
