You mentioned you can't use SSL and Eucon simultaneously, but that's not completely accurate. I have just the UC1 and it works completely fine with my Dock + S1 in Pro Tools. I suppose this is because the UC1 doesn't actually need to talk to Pro Tools and is not considered a "control surface" the way the UF1/UF8 are. Just wanted to call that out. Great video man! Thank you for all the info.
Ryan thanks so much for watching and commenting. I believe you’re right about this! With that being the case I think the UC1 is a great addition for people who want to use a lot of the SSL plugins.
@@delmixedit Agree 100%. I love it for music mixing in Pro Tools. I was using UA LUNA for a while and considered switching to SSL UF1 and UF8, but I missed the extra power of the combo of S1/Dock/Pro Tools. It's just all so well integrated. Unless SSL partners with a DAW maker I don't think they'll ever be as powerful as the the Avid stuff. If I was 100% committed to using UA LUNA for mixing this would be a tougher decision. Right now I'm recording in LUNA and mixing in Pro Tools and it works pretty well for me.
Thanks for the tip. I've spoken with Eddie, the lead EUCON Dev at Avid, and he confirmed that this changed in a MacOS update. It used to work without needing to add the ms. Will definitely be trying this.
Hey man, thanks for making this video. It is easily the most comprehensive one about the EUCON app itself and the dock. My dock is arriving in few days and I was wondering, which window you use mostly on the Dock tablet when mixing?
Thanks soo much for those kind words and taking the time to watch it. I bounce between several pages depending on what I’m doing. Snapshots gets used quite a bit as well as the automation editing screens. I also utilize the channel page to access the surround panners and I quite like controlling plug-ins from the dock as well since it’s center on my desk.
@@delmixedit Yeah, I was playing with the app first before decided to go for Dock. Channel page looks very cool. Do you have a video on mixing with dock use case?
@delmixedit my guy. Could you consider doing a series or even just a video with tips to learning the Dock and s1 to the point you could abandon keyboard and mouse 99% of the time?
It was connected to a hub, but once o changed the cable didn’t have any more issues. Also I think I’ve figured out the Focus thing. Some things have to be clicked instead of just hovering the mouse, which is still annoying because it’s not a uniform implementation.
Appreciate if you can answer me this question. I bought an S1 avid on reverb and have yet to install it and when I did I noticed it asks for registration card bought did not come with it. Now I’m stuck in limbo I reached out to the seller he said he will give it to me but has than stopped responding. Do I need that code to use the S1 or is it not necessary and how can I hook it up with eucon? This has me stuck
You do not need the registration code to use it. That’s just for registering it in your avid account, which you should be able to message avid support to do.
@@delmixedit Thank you. So how do I download the application eucon? I tried could not find it in the avid website. Also I noticed you mentioned in the beginning regarding getting a box for the ethernet I’m kinda stuck on that as well because I have my Carbon Daw connected to my m1 mini but don’t have extra connection for the s1 can you refer me a device to purchase so I can have them connected eventually than getting another s1
@MilestonesMusic1 it will be under your My Products inside your account. Of it’s not there for some reason there’s a downloads page you can access as well.
Everything is nice and all good.. So they removed the use of M Audio Axiom to controlProtools transport and faders. I guess I have 2 buy an Avid product since Protools won't let any other midi controller control the faders like other daws
I just went back to an s1 and dock, I have the uc1, Uf8, and uf1 . I have used them all S3 ,c24, etc. now what I did like about the ssl ecosystem was the simplicity which made me mix faster. I left protocols faders at unity and did my mix in the 360 using just the channel strips, bus comp and a few other plugins and guess what ? My mixes were fine. But I’m the nerdy type who needed more control. Now I did prefer ssl to Softube but that’s another story, I attempted to use the new plugin to map some plugins and for the most part it did pretty good . In my opinion they could have just mapped the ssl plugins that matched the uc1 and call it a day.. with the 3 waves channel strips 3 plugin alliance, uad channel strip and ssl’s 3 that’s 10 which is more than what Softube has. The issue is that they are trying to please everyone which is impossible, I’m going to miss my uc1 it worked flawlessly I have all 3 for sale but may end up keeping the uc1. To be honest I have a love hate relationship with avid and their controllers sometimes it works great then they come out with an update and break something which is the case right now. I can go on and on but in a nutshell avids controllers are better than the ssl ones but the ssl does pretty good for most people and is built like a tank and cheaper that the avid controllers .
Thanks for chiming in. I agree that they’re playing a dangerous game of trying to keep up with Avid and please everyone. It’s much better as a locked system for the people that want to go the more simplistic route of only using the SSL strips. I work mostly on Film/TV, so I don’t use channel strips that often. Particularly not colored ones like those unless it’s for specific purposes. I do think if the UC1 could be used fluently along side EUCON it’s a nice addition (like ConsoleOne), but as it stands now it’s one or the other and Avid has it locked still for power users. Only one that came close was Nuage.
@@delmixedit actually it will play nice if you change the midi channel on the avid devices, ssl has to be on midi one , you can set the eucon to midi 4 and they both work fine
