.... i want to buy one .... but ... i just know that using my trackpad is what i will go back to. I bought a livid machines one ages ago , always mapping , and then you just go back to using the trackpad on my laptop. These things just take so much mapping
There is an issue that I've noticed with other control surfaces and that's with switches being mapped to buttons. If the switch only has 2 states like an on/off then it works fine, but if the switch has 3 states, like, say Stereo, Dual Mono and Mid/Side then mapping it to a button ends up with the button skipping the middle function, in this example Dual Mono
totally.. That's why I used pots. I wish those buttons could see a command telling it how many clicks it should be. Like if you mapped a UC1 button to a distrressor ratio.. you'd have to click from 1:1 to Nuke.
Not sure.. In Reaper you definitely can.. And I have done that for other plugins when I need a quick name to tell what that plug is doing.. But haven't been in Cubase for years so not sure if they allow renaming plugin instances on tracks.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who was bummed they didn't include the bus compressor section. It woulda been really nice to have a more standardized set of compressor controls. I only set up the 360Link for one plugin that I use a lot (Summit 100) and I get confused by how I mapped it. The bus compressor section would cure that issue immediately. Gonna be great if SSL does some updates. Question for ya: On the SSL brand 4kE, have you had any issues with the routing/sidechain section randomly changing on you? Every once in a while when I open a session, it changes the sidechain to external and it's kind of a pain because I have to check and make sure everything is still correct. FWIW, I'm not on Reaper, I'm on Pro Tools, and I know SSL has had some issues with how 360 works with PT, so it could be related. thanks for the vid.
Totally agree.. There must some reason.. some one I saw say they wouldn't be able to get the VU feedback from some plugs.. not sure but even if theey just did thee knobs there would makee more sense.
Hey there Ronnie. Great channel. So I guess I'm the only one that's not exactly thrilled with this implementation method but I totally get it's probaby the only way they could do it. I'm just not a fan of plugin wrappers, which is basically what this is. You can't tell what's in the wrapper unless you dig through them all. It's a nightmare if you're on the receiving end of a session to mix with tens of plugin wrappers all labeled SSL 360 link.
Yeah I get it. In Reaper I can rename the plugin. So I think in my template I will have to name them so I know what's inside. But I get what you're saying
I recently switched over from console 1 mk3. I have the uf8 and uf1. One of the things that bugged me about the console 1 is it's knob reaction time. There's almost always a slight delay when I turn the knob. So far the ssl controllers respond much faster. The knobs don't feel as nice but what's the point of it feeling like real analog pots when they don't respond as fast. Thanks for the video. Im looking forward to getting a uc1. I use the ssl strips a lot.
@@RonniSantmyer thank you i really like the mixing especially in Reaper and DaVinci résolve and when WE do sound édits the result IS not really that. But i'm counting on you thank you.😌👌
Hi! I see you normally operating UAD plugins and I have an issue: opening it to work with the GUI, the window is too small, and I don´t find any zoom / scalable options. That happens ONLY with UAD plugins (others, dragging the lower right corner it enlarges...). Any idea, more than wellcome... Thanks, and greetings from Argentina
Not sure I'll look into it.. I do know the uad x versions are scaled better.. But like my Fatso in uad2 version is still skinny and small gui on most modern screens.. They need to update that stuff for sure. I'll fire up computer in a bit and take a look.
@@MrMelancobar only thing I can tell is in UADx versions we can resize select from scale menu. But the old UAD2 versions still smaller but not super small but for today's standards those should resize as well.
@@Newmusicreview I've update UAD system to the last vn, and I can't see any "scale menu"... (win 11, Studio One 6). Other vst 3 yes, vía menu or dragging the window...
I haven't felt like it's not working.. but honestly I haven't done a real mix yet.. I'm needinng to go thru my larger templatee and replace some plugs with those same plugs inside 360.. so will take little time and then maybe when my template is fully going and more 360link involved because I have a lot of parallel stufff I'll see if I notice.. I sure hope not.. ha
@@RonniSantmyer let us know please your findings. This is the make or break detail for me. If it maintains delay compensation, I will buy it no hesitation. Been waiting for something like this for so long!
I think mapping the controls of the bus compressor would not automatically enable the VU meter to be used. VST3 plugins expose their controls to the outside world, so SSL can map them to their controller. But I‘m not sure any of the 3rd party plugins are exposing the GR meter read out, so it could be mapped.
Hey Ronni, if you can help me out can you tell me the height clearance of the UC1 if it’s on its feet standing angled up? Can’t find that answer anywhere and your video got me thinking. Published specs are for lying flat and I’ve got limited clearance
I have the X touch and I have money planned to go in other areas but I do like the look of the UF8 next to the UC1. I have a Wes audio NG leveler to maybe sell maybe that'll fund new controller or a guitar lol
Not a lot of people use the ssl 360 app, but as a user who doesn't own the control surfaces i can tell you where 360 is amazing is with a touch screen monitor with 360 dedicated to it. Direct hands on interaction gives me the feeling of working on a physical desk. I'd advise anyone who has a touch screen monitor to try it. The benefit of having the channel fader, pan and sends means i can mix really fast
@@RonniSantmyeryup, my workflow has sped up massively to the point in thinking of selling my Faderport 16 as it's largely redundant now. No more banking left and right. Might do a video to highlight it in action
