This is the time of year I begin to switch to harness rigs, not that I am an expert, but there are so many variables. Speed of the troll, color of the blade. Still learning it as I go, only my second year and so far not all that much success. That's fishing though. Thank you for posting this up!

Hey Jeff. Most live bait fishing people have switched or about too. As I will still be Jigging. lol Although this video taught me a lot as well. I can make the Jig catch fish all season long and vary the technique of course. With that being said I am and will continue to work with the Slow Death hook and may add a couple of things too like different beads and even a spinner on it. That was a fun experiment for me. Jeff thanks for watching and the comments. We all have so much to learn from each other. Keep those lines tight.

@@riverfishingmn1500 Much like yourself, I too prefer jigging and lately drop shot fishing. Which seems to be just another type of jig fishing. I am enjoying your content. I would like to catch some bigger fish tho. Small Saugers don't fill the box, and I like eating 'em!

@@JeffN-A Very good point. I have heard the drop shot from some friends has been working very well. I should do the Death hook VS Drop Shot. The fishing is starting to pick up out there and bigger are coming soon. I appreciate you watching and the good tip on a video

Wondering whether trolling slow death downstream is best?
@riverfishingmn1500
@riverfishingmn1500 2 года назад
Hey Brian. Thanks for watching. The slow death rig will absolutely work. It's an amazing way to put fish in the boat. I found best to trolling between 1 to 1.3 works great.

Any good lakes for catfish or Buffalo fish? White bass? Thanks
@riverfishingmn1500
@riverfishingmn1500 2 года назад
Hey Meng. Thanks for watching. What area you live in? I can tell you that the St. Croix, Mississippi are producing all of the above fish right now. Which can be caught from shore or boat. Not sure about White bass in any lakes.

Hi Brian! I’ve been trolling with cranks and catching less but bigger eyes. Jig and minnows will catch quite a few small saugers and eyes right now. Trolling I can catch 3-5 eyes over 16-20 inches.

Hey Berry. Thanks for watching and you're absolutely right. At this time trolling is pretty good and those are nice Walleye's brother. I ran across a few guys trolling today and they were pulling shad raps blue and silver and orange fire tiger and most of the fish were short they were getting. Don't ask me how I know. Story for another time. lol I do troll on rare occasions not against it and it's is a perfect scouting tool. Hey Berry thanks for the comment, love them and If you see me out there say hey. Great topic.

It seems like no matter how many barrel swivels, bead chains, etc I put on my slow death rigs the flouro leader I use ends up twisting up and breaking. It catches fish though.
@riverfishingmn1500
@riverfishingmn1500 2 года назад
Hey Superkuh. I feel your pain and I have been in the same place. My suggestion is this and you may have tried it already I don't know. First, I use 6lb fluorocarbon Berkley Trilene XL as my leader. For me 26" works best right now and that may change later on. Also, I think and believe in my opinion as I went through MANY different swivels before finding what I believe is the best one for this rig. It's a VMC ball bearing swivel. Size is 1 and this worked for me. Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment and watching

I know this was a year ago, but I'll be in the Prescott area where the St. Croix meets the Mississippi to take my Dad fishing this weekend. Are you close to the Mississippi here? I see a smoke stack in the background but can't place it. Thanks!

Great videos and thanks for sharing! I may have missed it but when you’re jigging are you using live bait on the jig, plastics or ?

@riverfishingmn1500 2 года назад
Hey Jason. I have a video on here called. (How I Rig A Jig. Northland Fireball with Stinger) This is the link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_v0nKrbLtMs.html . I always use live bait - Fathead Minnows on the Jig. I don't use a stinger hook. Way to rocky. Great question and Thanks for watching.

Where are the smallies? Can you do a video on how and what to use?
@riverfishingmn1500
@riverfishingmn1500 2 года назад
Hey yEllaMamba. Thanks for watching. You can catch Smallies all over that shoreline. Find the points where it is shallow and drops to deep water, The docks and any rocky shoreline will hold them. And I will absolutely put a Smallmouth video together for you. That will be fun. Great question. Keep those lines tight my friend.

How does the water level effect fish migration? Do they move to deeper water colum?
@riverfishingmn1500
@riverfishingmn1500 2 года назад
Extremes in water levels high or low will affect fish. In my opinion and from my experiences here is what I know. Big adjustments like high water or even after a rainstorm or a change in air temps overnight can shut fish down for a bit. Likely 3 days give or take. Again only in my opinion. Water temps have more to do on migration. All of these things can make a difference. The second part of the question is Yes in some cases, but also has to do with food supply and structure.

Been trying to watch a bunch of your videos, very good. I just got my boat and am excited to get back on the river. Are you mostly fishing Jig and Minnow? DO you switch techniques alot? There are so many ways to go after them, not sure the right approach.... or what approach is better for what situation. Keep putting out the good content
@riverfishingmn1500
@riverfishingmn1500 Год назад
Hey mkoehn, Thanks for writing. I jig all season just using a fathead minnow. However the jigging techniques differ in depending on season. Meaning sometime fast or slow or it even can be more like a drag on the bottom and you cant forget skip jigging. Thanks for watching. I will be putting more videos out as the water drops.
