St. Croix's new surf rod is built for Northeast striped bass surfcasters who are hard on their gear as they bounce between jetties, boulderfields, and beaches. The Seage series of surfcasting rods is designed to handle punishment without sacrificing performance - they are extremely strong and durable, yet still slim and lightweight.
On The Water's Jimmy Fee details what he likes about the rod, as well as some of the technology that was borrowed from rods at much higher price points, like the Legend.

Thank you very much for your videos. At 45 years old, I decided to take up fishing. I've been using your channel for research purposes, before I buy any gear. The endless options has been beyond overwhelming, but your videos have been a great help. I'll continue watching and gaining knowledge, getting prepared for gear buying in the spring. Thank you, again.

10'6" MOJO has been like my right arm since it came out, love St. CROIX rods 👍 MOJO is rated 2-4 oz , this new rod rated lighter, might be worth looking into.

Hey Jimmy thanks so much for reviewing this rod and informing us. It’s so helpful. I have a question. I am a pretty new surfcaster and fish a lot in back bay north shore Long Island, so a lot of light stuff like unweighted sluggo, paddle tails on 3/8-1/2 jigs, sp minnows, redfins, small glides and small dannys. This year I even plan to try 5 inch Hellcat. Currently fish the Tsunami Airwave Elite 8’8” rated 1/2-2 but broke off the tip so it’s actually 8’. I use a Spinfisher 3500 and 20# braid. Will the Seage 10’6” ML significantly increase my casting distance? I know distance is not always the goal, but sometimes it is, especially in skinny water when the tide is dropping out. I also worry that length may make it difficult to work a sluggo, though I imagine I could adjust technique. What do you think? Anyone feel free to comment.

Love St. Croix rods. This one was interesting, but I don't surf fish enough to justify upgrading from the Triumph.

Made in Mexico! 15 years warranty. Only issue 70/30 split which makes hard to travel

definitely want to get the 10.6 M Mod rod for my vsx200. i currently have the saltx 10' M which is has been very good but even thinking of going with the 11' instead of the 10.6. BTW what type of light you have hanging over your neck?

hey what surff combo would be the best to cast big baits like even up to1/3 lbs cut baits from the shore so it can go far? the only thing i need to look in this case would be a lure weigh for the typical rod?

Whats is the best plugging rod from the seage line up? The 10 mod-fast or 10-6 moderate?
@OnTheWaterMedia
@OnTheWaterMedia 2 года назад
That's going to depend on what plugs you like to throw. The Mod-Fast MH will do pencils, darters, bottles, metal lips, and bucktails. The Mod-Fast ML will do minnow plugs, smaller needles, small plastics and jigs. That moderate, M will be a good pick for bucktails and swimming plugs, but might be a little soft for topwaters.

I was looking at 11’’… Would I be able to use this as a slip bobber setup for steelheads too ?
@itsnotme3882
@itsnotme3882 Год назад
I think you might want a slower action for something like that, but it might. I fish the surf not streams for steelhead so I can’t really say, but when I did fish bobbers for trout in NY streams we fished really slow action noodle rods and I think this would be a little to fast and may tear hooks especially if you’re drifting egg sacks with small hooks. These rods are more meant to drive home a 2/0 or 3/0 treble hook as opposed to setting a smaller size 8 egg hook. But again I don’t fish enough trout streams to know what the conditions you’re fishing or how it’s really done.

How’s this compare to the Avid surf or is it the replacement to it?
@Bmw2473

I bought the avid surf before they no longer can be purchased as I really wanted the Fuji guides not that sea guide is bad as my triump inshore has them but Fuji just looks better quality side by side.

@Joshismack

Are these better than avid series?
@OnTheWaterMedia
@OnTheWaterMedia 11 месяцев назад
Different. More moderate in their action. Avids are faster, about $40-$50 more for a comparable model, and made with a higher-modulus graphite.
