As much as I love the Grand Final this just seems like a much better way to win Super League. I was only 3 at the time of this match so I don’t remember it or what SL was like back then.

@@dfjsorbys Shaun Mcrae 1996 - 1998 Predecessor Eric Hughes had done a good job and helped with the development of young players who went on to be household names, such as Keiron Cunningham, Steve Prescott and Joey Hayes, but crucially he failed to lift a major trophy in his tenure. However, the manner of his departure didn't go down too well with the fans as under Hughes Saints had made reasonable progress so to kick him out and bring in an unknown Australian seemed harsh and unjustified to many, including a section of supporters who asked: ''Who is this Shaun McRae bloke?' "I arrived under controversial circumstances, '' admitted McRae at the time, but he soon silenced his critics by bringing home the coveted Challenge Cup after a 40 - 32 Wembley victory over Bradford Bulls on April 27, 1996, only a few months after his appointment and then helped put the icing on the cake by steering Saints to a 66 - 14 destruction of neighbours Warrington to clinch the first championship of the summer era Saints was the first ever team to win the Super League Title back in 1996 ( My Profile Pic is us winning the first ever Super League Trophy Bobbie Goulding holding the Super League Trophy ) Shaun McRae, nicknamed 'Bomber', was born in 1959 and began his rugby league coaching career as an assistant for the Canberra Raiders in the mid-late 1980s. He was later appointed head coach with St Helens (1996-1998) in the Super League, where he won the Coach of the Year award in 1996. Ian Millward 2000 - 2005 Under Millward, St Helens quickly became the most exciting team in the competition, playing expansive, attacking rugby. There's no denying Ian Millward's success in the game, especially his six seasons with St Helens. Having lifted two Super League titles and as many Challenge Cups as well as the League Leaders Shield and World Club Challenge, Millward made a name for himself as one of the top coaches in the British game. Daniel Anderson 2005 - 2008 He was appointed the coach of St Helens R.F.C. in 2005, succeeding the previous coach Ian Millward who had been sacked by the club. He left the position at the end of 2008 Super League XIII, returning to Australia. In August 2006, St Helens won the Rugby League Challenge Cup after beating Huddersfield Giants 42-12 at Twickenham in the final. The club then went on to win the 2006 Grand Final. In December 2006, Anderson was rewarded for St Helens' dominance throughout the season when he won the BBC Coach of the Year Award. This was the first time a rugby league coach had received the award. He was also named Super League's coach of the year in 2006 and again in 2007. In February 2007, Anderson won the World Club Challenge with St. Helens, defeating Australian champions, the Brisbane Broncos. He then went on to coach St Helens to win the 2007 Challenge Cup final, defeating the Catalans Dragons 30-8 at the new Wembley Stadium. In August 2008 Anderson won the Rugby League Challenge Cup with St Helens for a third successive year beating Hull FC 28-16 at Wembley Stadium. He is the brother-in-law of former Hull Kingston Rovers coach Justin Morgan. He left St.Helens in 2008 and went back to Australia Nathan Brown 2014 - 2015 Nathan Brown guided St Helens to 1st place in Super League and victory in the Grand Final, after defeating the Wigan Warriors 14 - 6 at Old Trafford. Nathan Brown's side playing against a 12 - man team for 78 minutes, after Warriors prop scumbag Ben Flower was sent off for punching Lance Hohaia in the second minute of the match. In October 2014, it was announced that Brown would leave the club to return to his native Australia, citing 'family reasons'. Justin Holbrook 2017 - 2019 During the Super League XXIV season, Holbrook guided St Helens to the League Leaders Shield after finishing 16 points clear of second placed Wigan. Holbrook then coached St Helens to their 14th championship win after defeating Salford 23-6 in the 2019 Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford. Kristian Woolf Our Current Coach On 10 September 2019, it was announced that Woolf would take up the head coach role at St.Helens in 2020, signing a two-year contract with the club having the option to extend a further year. He coached St Helens in the club's 8 - 4 2020 Super League Grand Final victory over Pies at the Kingston Communications Stadium in Hull. He coached St. Helens to victory in the 2021 Challenge Cup Final with a 26 - 12 victory over Castleford at Wembley Stadium. On 9 October 2021, Woolf coached St. Helens to their 2021 Super League Grand Final victory over Catalans Dragons.
