Whether it was for Australia or St Helens, Mal Meninga terrorised the Poms for 12 years from the moment he ran onto old Craven Park in Hull for the opening game of the 1982 Kangaroo Tour until he retired after the 1994 Kangaroo Tour. Not that his retirement made any difference to the results, the Poms as either Great Britain or England still haven't beaten the Kangaroos in any meaningful game, tournament or series since.
You’ll realise one day that the mere fact RL even exists in the UK is a miracle in itself. That we still compete against AUS is a massive achievement that is due to the volunteers at grass roots levels. Once they go…
Was there that day, and was in the Saints bar on the night when the lads came back. Got to shake big Mal’s hand, god he was huge!!! On a side note, the highlights don’t show it, but Peter Gorley had an outstanding game that day.
Im sure there was a Yorkshire cup final before this game on the same programme, how good was rugby league back then. Id rather see a chip over the top than high boring completion rates, games not as good now, imo. Love this channel 👌
