Come with me on my walk to work in St Ives. Don't worry, you don't have to actually have to do any work, just enjoy the beautiful spring morning! Thanks for watching. #cornwall #cornwallcoast #southwestcoastpath #stives #england #uk
Hen 70...a very good walk round; a stand-out from many that aren't....why?...you filmed St.Ives when most phone filmers film themselves and their yap...well done. So; here's a tale...at 7.29; the house with the railings, ( 2 Burrow Road.). In 1945, at at War's end, I came to St.Ives age 5 from evacuation. I drew up in a van and looked up to see my family waving from the railings. Apart from my mother that was the first time I'd seen them. Off to the right is St Eia Street...that's where the giant end-of-War street party was held for all the Downlongers. I clearly remember every bit of that day! PS All the time I was in the van, I was terrified....on the gear handle black knob was a Nazi swastika!..I thought I'd been kidnapped!...you've guessed it; it was, of cause, the gear shift pattern, on all cars then. Congrats on a great vid which gets my Gold Medal for quite excellence.
As a GPO engineer I spent many months in 79 and 80 working in st ives putting in new telephone lines and worked in most streets of the town. Often in the summer having ice cream on the harbour ftom harts parlour. The tallest pole in the town stood on the corner of the digey and was difficult to climb because of the number of wires feeding properties in the area.
Hen, Phew, you really were racing through the Town and panning very fast. I often watch the regular London video walkers and they walk at a much calmer relaxed pace and pan slower. Was in St Ives last May (2023). Weather was sensational. So I was thrilled that you passed my Holiday booked cottage on your route...possibly to your worklplace (The Tate)??? Of course you would have got there much quicker cutting through The Digey. But I was pleased to watch the video, my favourite place in the U.K.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. Sorry about the fast panning. Yes, I could have gone the direct route to work but it was such a nice morning, I couldn't resist a detour! A good guess about my workplace but not right I'm afraid. Enjoy your upcoming visit. Thanks.
Thanks for your comment and yes, you are right. I added a caption to that effect on Teetotal Street! However, I was on my way to work, but with the weather being so good that morning, I just had to prolong the commute!
Love St Ives! Beautiful Cornwall! What is my massive bug bear for all of the UK is the shop frontages; the signage! The councils should pass a law (or whatever) to state the signage / frontage should fit the area. Those awful garish signs are ugly, tacky, trashy and just plain horrible! You can advertise you wares in a tasteful fashion … but fgs .. add to the area, blend in, don’t take away! Just awful! Same with new buildings.
I agree about the shop frontages. The best place that I saw this done was Hoi An in Vietnam where all the frontages had to be a certain style, as did the shop/restaurant sign. This was only in the world heritage old town but the effect was very impressive. Thanks for your comment.
That was a long walk, all the while I was trying to guess where work was! The Island is my all time favourite place to walk or sit, best views up there. Will be back there very soon.
Winnie Wallace..... Cornwall's not the picturesque place it use d to be,in fact it's quite shoddy. Spoilt by double yellow lines on every road and road signs on most building. The beaches are dirty and strewn with litter and there's too many shops all selling tatty overpriced souvenirs.
