Brilliant Eddie, a proper nostalgic look for us ex pats. I used to go to the Newcastle Arms and Rosie’s. I remember standing in Rosie’s on the day Keegan came back to manage and seeing the queues build up on the open end of the Gallowgate at 1 o’clock!! Sold out by 2 o’clock. Nowadays I tend to head for either Shearers or the Terrace as I only get a couple of times a year due to living abroad. Take care mate and keep them coming
@@TynesideLife Yeah Eddie, I just can't be fussed with the two flights and 10 or so hours it takes to get there. You know what it's like after being over here for the summer series. One of these days.......
Hi Eddy the geordie star used to be called the star bar back in the day…also the labour club is just around the corner from the strawberry, great vid thanks mate
Morning Eddy and Helen. Yet another great video!! The Geordie Star was called.......The Star!! When I had my business at 65 Westgate Road, The Star was our local and we spent many a happy hour or three in there after work. Back then in the late 90's early 00's we would finish work, pop into the Star for a couple then head to SJP and watch the Lads hammer Barca, Dynamo Kiev and Barnsley!!🤣🤣🤣 Lovely days!!
Hi Eddy. No, it had been The Star for many years before the revamp. You must be thinking of the Black Swan which is a venue in the Newcastle Arts Centre just a bit further down Westgate Street! I had my 50th in there!!@@TynesideLife
Morning Eddy 👋 An entertaining walk through a number of popular match day bars 🍺. Back in the day when I had the season ticket it was the Hotspur & the Strawberry........good times indeed. I can't believe waaaaaay back (17) ......the clock, cordwainers and black garter were regulars! 🍺
As a geordie living abroad I loved this video, it brought back so many good memories of pre and post match drinks with family and friends. Tilley's and The Bodega were my Dad's favourite haunts but when I went to match days with my mates we tended to drink around The Gate. There's a bar for every age, tatse and preference in Newcastle! I miss it so much. This video has convinced me to visit home sometime this season for a match day.
Had a rough tally up of all the boozers around Stamford Bridge in my heyday, late 70s early 80s, got to 45 and I know I missed a few of the more off the main drag pubs, so at least 50. I think it’d break my heart to count how many there are now.
As an away fan....without doubt my favourite pubs are the Crown Posada...The Beehive & like yourself Eddy got to give the Percy Arms big raps cracking pub....
Wolves are second, I think there’s 56 pubs in the same radius BUT there is only 1 that away fans can drink in which is miserable - most Geordie bars welcome everyone and that’s why it’s the best away day 😎✌️
Another great video Eddie. Been in most of those bars however there are lots I wouldn't return to even for free beer 🤤. Love the jackets you wear Eddie.........is that a Fyallraven??
I live in Dublin now and it's a great city but I tell all my Irish friends that nowhere in world football compares to the Toon on a match day. It's pure carnival and I miss it so much.
Morning Eddy great vid mate . We go to the Akenside down near the Quayside when we come down for games , great pub ,good food , big tv screens and Madri on draught !!! Mon the Tooon 🏁🏴
Sheffield United's Bramall Lane is probably the nearest competitor to St James. It's next to the city centre, so there are 50 to 100 pubs within a quarter to half a mile. Also Sheffield is the real ale capital of England, having the biggest choice of beers with many micro breweries operating in and around Sheffield.
Well, I’m going to challenge you on that one bud, and not in a way to come across as a bit funny. I was at Bramall Lane recently and did two videos. I went into two of your Home Only pubs in my Newcastle top but also had a good wander around the area as I was shooting. I’d be very surprised if there was more than 20 pubs around Bramall Lane and only because it’s a little bit outside of the city centre. So, in the interests of friendly research, could you count them within a 1/2 mile radius and see what the actual figure is and let me know? 👍🏻
I loved being a student there in the early 90s and have been back a few times. Most recently I spent a day there in June with a mate who'd never visited. We visited several of those pubs and had a great time.
Loved living in the Toon in the 1980's and had a season ticket in the Ardiles and Jim Smith eras. Frequented the Tyneside Irish Centre. Fabulous place. I couldn't do pre match drinking nowadays though (unless I was happy to miss large chunks of the action). I love to get back to the Toon so have kept note of all the bars - what a pub crawl that would be, you'd need a week! Use them or lose them though I'd say - there's a terrible attrition rate in that trade these days.
@@TynesideLife eeee well ye never knaar they might get back in the premiership soon???? I divint think you’ll get a better welcome than last season like?!? Hahaha but I’ll treat you and Helen to some decent fish and chips if the dey 😂
Im coming to Newcastle next sunday until the Wednesday after. I dont have a ticket to the game. Where should i go to get the best experience watching the game?
The DJ was superb the dancers, the away fans the piss take especially Middlesborough and the Gary Glitter song lol , the yard of ale, curry hell cheap for a bottle or a pint it was tremendous. Three Bulls Head, the Labour club, both amazing bars after the match too aitkenside trader in the quayside. Great videos Eddie 👍🏻
Hi Eddie, I used to go to the Leazers baelr on the 2nd Thursday of every month Army companions club. Its old school inside, cheap ale and close to the Cathedral
Madrid tastes nice but dehydrates me as bad as brown ale, wake up in the middle of the night with a splitting head ache, had to stop drinking both in any quantity.
Haha no ive not been up that area either but i hear the powerhouse is good tho dont forget you need to go in round the back. Anyway cracking video mate
Hi Eddie We drive up from Shildon and park college area usually. We always head into the Marlborough Club, a typical working men’s club in the middle of town, rammed full of mags, they even have black and white striped wallpaper too. Great atmosphere, cheap drink, highly recommended 👍 Mike, Shildon
Wolves 30 pubs yet away fans are allowed in 0. The only away pub at Villa has now been made home fans only. Yet we welcome everybody, best city in the world.
I make it my business to go inside home only pubs in my Newcastle shirt and have some banter with local fans. I’ll give Wolves a go at the end of the month 😃👍🏻
Eddie your work continues to enlighten us here in the USD. We met during the summer series in the US and we are in town on Saturday. Wondering if you can DM to discuss potential meet up.
When my boss comes up from london to have a night oot on the toon with the Newcastle team. Lovely guy, loaded and he absolutely loves going to the beehive 😂 Not complaining though, he gets the rounds in. Tempted to take him to the garter 😂
Great video eddie, live travelling over to games and live the city . In all the times ive been there never made it into the irish centre, and be trying out some of these when back over
Great content as always Eddie, thank you for giving us some original material, but I was very disappointed to learn you haven't been in most of these pubs! Howay man, get yersel in!!
Maths can be misleading bud. 😃 I don’t think there’ll be many people who will have been in more than 70 pubs on match day. Even over a course of years. We’re all creatures of habit
Ah Eddie man all these pubs and you missed Newcastle Labour club. The size of it and the old dance hall make it most definately part of this. Great club and proper beer!
