A recording of the weekly organ demonstrations held on Monday afternoons at 1pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City featuring its famous Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ.
This was recorded on Monday, December 19th, 2016 and was played by Cathedral Associate Organist, Ray Nagem. Ray played a few Bach pieces and the Grand Choeur Dialouge by Eugene Gigout at the very end, utilizing the powerful 8' Tuba Major (and 8' Trompette Harmonique??). Note the dead note on the Tuba Major, sticks out quite well in the first few bars.
The famed State Trumpet was not used in this video because it has been out of commission for about 3 years now (They took it out in late 2013). It was removed to protect the pipes from survey work being done at the West End of the Cathedral. There is no date scheduled yet for reinstallation.
The video and audio was recorded right below the Great Organ located in the Great Choir on the southern side of the Choir. The audio was recorded with a Tascam DR-40 and a Canon EOS camera for video.
