Amazing, Awesome, I'm impressed. My friends were here this winter and went to the Caribbean Islands. My two other friends live there, they come here for the winter. They said their friends built that Arch. I didn't know about the underground parts. I see the story in the relief. It is an engineering marvel indeed. It's a good price to ride the tram.
Hey Mr. W.D! My Dad took us there in the '70's. I remember the Creepy Space-Pod Elevators. Of Course, I have always had Extreme Acrophobia and Claustrophobia...Everywhere we went had to be High-up or See-through Stairs or Glass Windows from Floor to Ceiling! Until I was 18, I spent most of my Life in a Constant State of Panic and Vertigo! LOL! Cheers! Thumbs Up!
Very cool video Dan. I can imagine it would be very difficult to video something as large as the arch but you caught it perfectly. It is nice that they have the window in the door so you can see all the mechanical equipment and the stairs as you go up. There are some very beautiful views from the top.
Thanks for the tour, my sister and I went on a random Road trip. from Santa Barbara to NY. Stopped at Arch at night. scratched our names in Arch like everyone else.. YOU? The park under it is super cool and lively, but we didn't stay to see the inside..had St. Louis Ribs for dinner then left :-)) enjoying your vids.. Thanks Dano!
that sounds like an awesome and epic trip!! :) I did not scratch my name - should have tho :) There are a few really good rib joints there that is for sure!! glad you are enjoying the videos all the best
I'm glad you went up in the Arch because I now know what it looks like and I won't ever be going up myself. I'm a bit elevation-challenged, don't like heights. When I visited Chicago I passed on the Sears tower. Too high for me! Walked down an outside fire escape in Baltimore and wanted to crawl through the windows. I could see the sidewalk through the expanded metal and that wasn't working out so good! I'm pretty sure I once left claw marks on the walls of a lighthouse. No problem, he said. Won't feel like it's that high, he said. We are no longer together. OUTWARD SLOPING WINDOWS?! Yeah, right!
:) I understand - some heights bother me and some don't, for some reason buildings don't but standing on the edge of the roof of a house... not good for me. I hope at least you got to enjoy it this way - virtually. lol
The Arch was really claustrophobic and I didn't help matters. I told the people in my little "egg" ,"Don't worry it hardly ever gets stuck anymore. I mean for hours. Maybe once every couple of days " After sitting squished in that little car, they were freaking out when we got to the top. God was I mean as a kid.
smelled better than I remember the subway being as a kid. Last time I was back I was like WOW the subway is so clean... compared to back in the day that is. lol
@4:22===> Walk the Stairs Day? HUH?? How about "Walk the Stairs WEEK"?? You could go ahead of us and cook some of your awesome meals for us!! Your Merry Tribe of Climbers(Your Subbers) will take turns carrying the kitties!! I think that YOU need to start a petition to get that idea "off the ground", Dan!!!! I'd surely sign it! Awesome views from the TOP!!! I don't know if it'd look so good after all of that stair-climbing, though! Thanks for letting us tag along!! Happy trails!
I don't think it would be terrible terrible... like 630 ft i less than 100 stories.. LMAO :) I would like to look into if they do it - many places do weird cool stuff like that.
Are you sure on that price? I was last back in the city in 2009 and I'm pretty sure it was like 20 bucks to go to the observation deck of the Empire State Building.
I live in a suburb of St Louis and have never been up in the Arch. LOL - being confined is not for me. You did a nice tour though. That's as close as I'll ever be.
I was in it several years ago. Didn't like the view from atop. I think that was when I came to the realization that I am claustrophobic and not very fond of heights.
Tom Rodgers You're right it is. I've lived here for many many years and aside from having my favorite Minolta stolen I've never been a victim of serious crime. I do try to pay attention to my surroundings, watch my back and trust no one. Crime is everywhere these days. Sometimes it's pretty depressing to watch the local news.
I rode to the top one time. The cool thing is the itty bitty tiny cars you ride in pivot (like seats on a Ferris Wheel) so you're always straight up and down. I didn't like the way you had to literally "crawl" on the sloped wall to peer out the windows. Thanks for sharing!
yeah. there was a guy teasing his wife and then the car jumped like they do and i saw his eyes and gave him a rough time about how scared he looked. lol
