St. Louis Ponds Bass Fishing Decline 

I did the same thing about 15 years ago. I actually jump shot a couple of honkers. But its gotten pretty popular the last few years for the trout fishing. They Stock it in mid october a lot. So I think that draws in alot of people. I'm suprised they actually allow hunting there. Its really not that big of an area as far as hunting goes. But I'm glad they allow it. We need more access in this day and age!

I cant say that one pond is better than the other. All of them have bass. I tend to fish ponds 1,2 and 7 the most. Simple because of the easier access and less debris in the ponds. This time of year try fishing early in the morning and late in the evening till the park closes. The last hour of daylight can be a very good bite. Stick to texas rigged soft plastics like senkos, Lizards, and creature type baits. Cast close to the bank especially if there is cover like and overhanging tree, or a log laying in the water. Later in the season ( September and October) when the water begins to cool from the summer heat can trigger good fishing. Definatley keep after it. It can be a little tricky to figure out the ponds. But when you do it can be a fun productive place. As far as other places to fish, The willamette river has tons of smallmouth bass and some largemouth. Bank access is good in a lot of places if you do your research. Hope this helps. Good luck! and thanks for watching!

The bass at SLP are a hard catch. They get a pretty good amount of pressure. I find that Soft plastics ( Senkos, Baby Brushhogs, Craws ) fished weedless are most affective. I've never had much succes with top water there. Green pumpkin, Watermelon, and purple colered baits are the best colors in my opinion. Sometimes black or motor oil colors if the water is stained. Ponds 1 and 6 are my first stops, then I usually go to ponds 2 and 3. There are bass in all of the ponds, but some are better fishing than others. Fish will bite all day from about April to early October. But the last 2 hours of day light form late May to around the middle of July are probably the most productive. Then Middle of August to Early October in the evening and early morning. But it changes slightly from year to year. Hope this helps you out. Please practice catch and release with the bass. It takes quite a few years for them to grow large. GOOD LUCK!

Could be... I just never see anyone taking bass. Im sure some people take them. Maybe some of them need to be weeded out. Could be too many small fish in the system.

I see people take bass home every year. I live close to the ponds and fish it all the time.
