I just bought this at work yesterday. Put it on last night. I still have the color guide on. BTW, if you are very, very fair, just a note the color guide is very very dark. I would say I’m a pretty experienced self tan user, I exfoliate lotion, all the dry spots and I use very little product for my hands and feet that are moisturized. I put it on those areas with a make up brush so I can buff it out. When I washed my hands, I can definitely tell it is way darker than the st tropez turquoise bottle. If you leave the 1,2 or three hour on you do get a beautiful golden tan. The violet one I would say is definitely a shade, maybe a shade and a half darker. So use at your own risk if you are very fair, also if you are new to self tanning.
Hi there! I was curious about this product because most at home self tanners with violet are MUCH lighter & it’s because orange shows up much easier on fair skin. So I was curious to see if St. Tropez would be one of the 1st non-professional self tanning brands to deliver 😂darker shade with violet tones. I work in a tanning salon & exfoliating & shaving a few hours prior to self tanning or spray tanning should help to prevent those pigments from sort of “pooling” in your pores. We have a “blending cream” that’s applied anywhere that pigments tend to grab (like elbows, knuckles etc, & some use it to prevent the pigments from pooling in pores because some are just more prone to it, especially when the self tanner (or spray tan) is significantly darker than the skin. But I just wanted to jump on here & say that I don’t think the comparison of the original st. Tropez vs. the supreme violet is about the difference in darkness necessarily as it is about thwarting orange tones. Violet &/or purple are great color correctors! Much like a purple shampoo to color correct brassy hair tones. So when purple or violet pigments are added to a self/spray tanning solution, the end result should end up a more cool-toned brown rather than a more bronze-y or warm-toned brown. The difference is slight but can be truly remarkable on many. That has been my personal experience with customers who spray tan or get air brushed. The brown tone finish is what is most desired by customers. We use the Norvell Venetian line & it’s a beautiful jump in color correction because of the cool browns & violet tones that are formulated into the solution. We still offer the original formula & there are those who love that too, but the majority like the effects of the violet tones. Color correction is usually pretty subtle in n self tanning but makes a big difference. I did see a more cool brown finish on your legs but it’s difficult to tell on a small screen. Also, St. Tropez may not have added in quite as much violet pigments as they could have - in order to make those remarkable results. Thanks for sharing your experience with this! Norvell does sell some Venetian products to the the general public too if you’re ever interested in trying another violet self tanning line. A lot of our customers use them to prolong their spray tans or to help maintain their UV indoor tanning bed tans. 😊 The Norvell solutions & self tanning products have been around for a long time. They’re a professional brand for good reasons! They’re very forgiving too. I’m mentioning it because it’s a favorite of mine. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other non professional brands that I don’t use & love bcz there are! St Tropez is def an old favorite of mine too! Sorry this is so long lol. This is also super helpful!! I've always stayed away from Violet tans because I thought they'd pull orange on me too. I tried norvell self tanner many years ago and honestly do not remember the results ... Going to check them out!
Cool demo! I am naturally darker skinned (puerto rican/ colombian) and was thinking about trying the ultra violet. The luxe whipped (ashley graham) was great but the color did not match my olive undertones. What are your thought, would you reccomend violet for darker skin?
Loved loved loved St Tropez express for years BEFORE they changed formula from olive undertone to brown/ orange. I used to get a streak free bronze tan, now I’m getting a streaky orange one. Sooooo disappointed!!!! Hoped Violet Mousse would work but apparently it doesn’t . Thanks for the review
They changed the formula!?! Express is my current go to still, I just love how it wears off so naturally. Maybe they’ll come out with a travel size self tanner and you can try it🩷

Super helpful demo!! Ive not used either of these tanners, only because I have a very cool, fair, and rosy undertone to my skin and ultra dark tans tend to go very orange on me. Not the tanners fault, it's just my undertone. I was seriously considering buying the new ultra violet but I think I'll pass. They look amazing on your skin, I just do t think it will look that great on mine. Thank you ❤❤

The Minetan Dark Ash and Bondi Sands cool tone & Emerald - I leave them on overnight (as opposed to following the directions on rinsing after 1-3 hours) These are not super dark tans tho, depending on how fair you are - but I've been told by other fellow fair skinned friends that you can double coat them and go darker. I have found that going with a lighter tan looks more natural on me vs trying to get super dark. I also use a pH spray by norvell that I buy from Amazon - I mist my skin with the ph spray and rub it in before putting self tanner on. this just brings my skin to the correct pH in order for the tan to develop properly. Dark Ash by Minetan is still my favorite out of all of them. Good luck!!
@@Sazzy8530 hey I swear I posted a response to this so apologies if this is a duplicate! I love Minetan Dark Ash and Bondi Sands sapphire! Both are lighter tans, but I've been told you can double coat them to get a darker result if you wish. I just like the lighter color on me 🩷. Good luck!!
@@Sazzy8530 yes : bondi sands earo ultra dark . Coco and eve sunny honey ultra dark . Bali body 1hr express ultra dark . I am super white with pink undertones and i do 3 layers of each of these and im still not orange :)
Oh yeah, I wanted to point out the one hour two hour or three hour does not develop in that time. You can just wash the color guide off after the three hour mark and it will proceed to develop over the next. I believe six hours.
Thank you! I meant the express has that normal self tanner smell that kinda smells like hot dogs, which is unique to each individual. I have a friend who doesn’t smell when she uses self tanner. But the Violet one when you first apply it, it almost smells like purple shampoo, if you’re familiar with that smell. It’s almost like chemical grape smell. The express doesn’t have that smell, it’s not terrible but it reminded me of my purple shampoo.
I've never used those tonner products... On winter I look like a yellow gost...(I've got a yellow undertone😂😂😂). On summer time, I go to the beach or to the swimming pool... if I can😅😅
The one in the blue can looks more natural for sure. I need a neutral undertone in my self tanner. I’m not sure if that exists. Btw…St. Tropez is pronounced….San-Truh-Pay. No letter Z sound at all. :) 🏝️
There’s a lighter tanning mousse out there with those color correcting violet tones by VersaSpa. You get a more brown tan than bronze. It’s nice. Also, the Norvell Venetian line is a professional brand used for spray tanning but they make products for the general public too. Both brands offer those violet pigments in the solutions - which thwart those yucky orange tones. Make sure you use one of those mitts to apply & use either a mousse or cream formula (Norvell Venetian has a cream) they are the easiest to blend and are the most forgiving. The cream is amazing especially if you are very fair. Good luck with tanning. I work in a tanning salon & have learned a lot over the yrs about what works and doesn’t work. 😊

Imagine being so rude to someone that was kind enough to take time out of their day to give their opinion on a product and upload it to RU-vid so everyone can get an idea of how it works before they spend their money on it. Speaking of which, prices for just about everything vary from country to country. That's just a given. I don't think that's something she needed to explain. Not trying to harp on the matter, but I'm just not understanding how not mentioning "hey this product might be more expensive in Sweden" discredits her entire review when you could've taken 2 seconds to look it up yourself. That's just absurd to me.
Congratulations for sticking with on over another. A review of the product does not need to be address the price in your country. Many of us appreciate the review of the actual product.
