Instead of trying to rule over nature, just listen to warnings and don't build your European style house near the volcano. If you do dare to live there build a small light and easy rebuildable house instead, and be ready to go on the vacation somewhere else at the sights of a coming eruption.

Good point, only if they had the economic ability to cash in on it. Sadly, most will wash into the surrounding ocean, killing off a lot of sea life. On the good side, it's great for agriculture.

Talking about ash, my mother used ash for produsin crup n the land for kind of "insecticide" also against snake. She never had snake in at least to bite her in all her dealing in it, thank God.
