She's progressed steadily from form to form, improving substantially all the way. It's almost frightening how her confidence and, frankly, just plain imperious performance powers have grown. The word "wow" is not nearly strong enough.
It's funny. I love all her albums, and I don't mind the ever-evolving sound. And I'm stoked af about seeing her in March for Masseduction. And yet Marry Me remains my favorite of her albums.
She's definitely an Original. I have loved her work since I first discovered her in Saturday Night Live.... her style is not what I'm used to.... but no one can put a finger on this SPOOKY GOURGEOUS ONE... LOVE ALWAYS MISS ANNIE
Annie's done some really incredible performances throughout her career, but this one is by far my favorite. It's just a really raw example of her natural talent and creativity while working with so little. This performance is the very reason I ever started writing music in the first place. I wanna get to this level... maybe one day.
i remember the first song i heard of her i basically screamed and i was like finally a woman who's standard is jimi hendrix and then i quickly looked up an interview and i found out she was inspired by jimi so yes, i100% agree, the absolute best.
Got here from 2018 performance at ACL in Austin recommendation. Still keeping music progressing in a beautiful interesting way. As a musician I am inspired. Would love to be a fly on the wall during rehearsals. Great musicians all around. The arrangements are complicated including tight rhythm sections. I excitedly anticipate future collaborations. Maybe bring in a great jazz bass player. Just guessing, haha. Btw she is a BadAss guitarist and vocalist. Fascinating unique melodies and harmonies. Love the use of multiple keyboards and cool rhythms. Proved music has infinite possibilities in the hands of the right personality.
Every time I see performances from this show I swear she's on something. She seems so spacey and it's hilarious. It could just be some sort of stage fright-ish thing though, I don't know how big the crowd there is. Also, her playing her guitar one handed is pretty cool, and in general her controlling all the sounds, like with the drum machine or with what I assume is some recording mechanism where she records what she's doing mid-song and then makes it loop for some effect. Some of the changes she makes to the songs (like with the distorted guitars) are weird but also sound pretty cool.
She seems like she might be on mdma or lsd. Her pupils are so big, she seems super emotional, and she connects with the crowd really well. She might just be an alien, though.
She has a different stage persona for every tour. It's likely she's acting the part of the shy girl for Actor. She is way weirder now. No one can figure her out.
do you think she knew that in six years she'd be headlining festivals and dating Cara and have people on the internet talking about how much they want to be murdered by her guitar?
Oh just played ur version for Sean Lennon and I think I scared him. Was Les Claypools pre Texas party.. Les loves me so asked if I had anything to offer. I said fuck yeah,.I'm recently obsessed with and then I played my weird acoustic.version of Annie sheesh
did that guy who started talking to her right before dig a pony say his name was "john" or did he say something about john? forever in search of the johnny mystery.... also bby annie is the best fucking thing. i wonder if she knew ten years from now she'd be a fucking rockstar (i mean she was here too but i mean by the standards of mass media).
I wish I was as interested in noise as St.Vincent. Gal is a wunderkind. Plus she is adorable. Annie,.it's James, maybe last Green Dance Hall West Texas Red Dirt music S/S.writer there is. U girl are deserving of finishing ur stories,.if David Byrne puts u in Enos parts well fuck u know .
at 34:30 ish did she say "i'm gonna jump ahead one, baby girl" or "i'm gonna jump ahead and want a baby girl." like in response to that marry me dude say i'm gonna skip marriage and want a baby girl
Annie and Pj Harvey are like Bowie. Genius! Beautiful human and woman, for me( man) is shame annie play for different team. Just overall weird and crazy ( positive way) like me.
Given the ability to time travel... most people would stop a genocide or reclaim a lost love... I would go back and take out the “loud dude” in this audience. He is the worst. (Plot twist someone offers me a bump of cocaine and I BECOME THE LOUD DUDE)
God- She was pure magic then. Seeing her run all her own gear with such finesse sure she's intense- maybe spastic, but she's so damned HUMAN, too. Sorry kids, but David Byrne ruined her. She's all push-button robot now. Maybe she'll come full circle and get back to this.
She has only gotten better with her music, she's going to keep evolving. If she didn't change from this to what she is now she wouldn't have gotten nearly as famous. (I'm not saying that her old music is bad, it's just not what most people are into. I personally love her old music with all my heart)
I admire Annie’s music now...but it is over produced and often a costume act. I much prefer just her insane talent and a guitar on stage like this performance.
If you can stop cringing then you too might be able to go to some of the places she is visiting with this accepting audience. She is an inspired genius.
13:00....get a drum track goin...loop a few measures (just a few) of "Bye Bye Blackbird"....sing some different lyrics....Kids will think you are a genius...Sorry kids...
