Stability: ASV vs Competitive Loaders

Slopes are an area you want your compact track loader to use its extra traction to excel. But other factors also come into play - particularly the machine’s balance and stability. ASV machines are designed to easily handle working on slopes without time-wasting techniques like filling your bucket with dirt or dangerous ones like backing uphill.

I like how the drivers for this video drop the speed of the upper track to get it to dig out on side slopes . I’ve driven about every skid steer on this video and haven’t had issues with a small incline like this or dig out on small side slopes either.

I had the opportunity of running a CAT 257D , ASV RT-70 and RT-75 on my own property all with a 72" brush cutter and bucket for a few days. The RT-70 felt very under powered give its size, had trouble turning in 180 or 360 degrees. Given the 70 was a similar weight class as the 257D the CAT smoked it. My dealer came and dropped off a 75 a week later and it was worlds better than the 70. It is a good bit larger than the CAT 257D, but both models had similar HP and the ASV had a better flow rate. The 75 and 257 are both great machines, both had pros and cons, and came with good options, I would have been very happy with either machine. At the end of the day I went with the CAT because believe it or not it was about $5500 cheaper than the 75 with similar options. Since ASV separated from Terex they have been turning out great products!

For starters a 75 vs a 259 isn't a fair deal. A 289 vs an asv rt75 is.

I've had an RC50 for many years. Love the machine. Very capable and will do exactly what the video says. I was warned about the "shitty track system" by others. They were wrong. It's been bullet proof. CAT actually has the ASV tracks on their machines now as an option. If CAT has it, it's a no-brainer.

It is the operator. I have been doing grading 16 yrs. At least 7yrs in skid loaders everyday . There design is flawed with the tracks& rollers. The plastic rollers get jammed up with debris, like all do. But the plastic melts, you will smell it. Then it will go rolling by. Of course then down time. Also the tracks have rubber nipples which pop off . Leaving dead areas ( sucks on turning to one side to work ) In 3yrs of using cat skids with AVS track systems. I never worn out a track. Nipples came off and track were useless with 60% tread left. I can't speak for the machine ( brand ) it's self because we never bought any due to the tracks. Also just to put it out there. The gear drive has rollers , not teeth to lock into the tracks. Very squeaky, slip when under a load ( which pops the nipples ) . Maybe they are a awesome balanced machine . But useless if it will not move. Redesign your tracks & drive system.. And maybe y'all will have the best skid loader . P.S. we had 4 cats with there system. All brand new , plastic on the seats around 2010 to 2012 models. The company is pretty loyal to the brand. But will try others. After 3 yrs struggling with rollers & tracks . they finely sold them and we have not had a roller fall off since. Nor a track replacement before it's time. Just a operator's 2 cents.

@ASVCompactEquipment
@ASVCompactEquipment 6 лет назад
Hi Erik, All the machines were equipped with the widest available factory track option. ASV’s standard track on the RT-75 is wider than the tested competitor's wide track option, and ASV’s wide track option takes you even further. ASV does choose to design it’s machine with wider tracks for the very reason of increased stability and traction. That along with the track material, track bogey wheel design, and machine weighting, allows the machine to succeed in applications like these slopes.

MTL vs CTL not fair. Also Cat's MTL use ASV unercarrage so they wont compair that. On the sideways slopes the ASV always had a fullish bucket shifting so weught forward so not as back heavy, where all others had empty so very rear heavy. That's my opion. And Phil is right any good operator knows heaviest end is always uphill going up or down. Good try though ASV

I use a Cat with a bolt on Loegering VTS track system. Yes it was expensive. But it makes the machine act like it's on steroids. Longer track frames. More weight down low. Large sprocket that turns less speed. Big rollers. Torsion ride. Can remove and run tires if needed. Can remove and repair. But I'm an owner operator. I run it with smooth precision and try to never abuse it. Would I let a crew of knuckledraggers run it? NO! Id put them on the most basic Japanese open cab machine I could buy.

In slopes, the asv tracked loader, the whole thing was sliding down the slope, while with other machines, only the back end was sliding, and RARELY are the loaders going to be going up a slope without a load in their bucket, i gurantee you any brand of these loaders can make a video, and all machines are going to have downsides

@ASVCompactEquipment
@ASVCompactEquipment 6 лет назад
Hi Karl, ASV has focused heavily on reliability with all of our new models! With a closer look at the boom on the RT-75 in this video, you’ll see a fully boxed, double cross beam mid-section to fully support the boom (some loader brands use a single cross tube), solid steel ends, and wide double plated mid-sections for maximum rigidity. Also the undercarriage now features a single rail design, all metal face seals, outboard bearingless drives, and many other features. Notably in the video you can see how well this design sheds debris, which improves the life in the conditions you mention. The main thing this undercarriage currently shares with a snowmobile is its ability to go fast, and go where other vehicles cannot. We definitely encourage you to give the machine a try though to see for yourself!

The undercarriage setup of the ASV is equivalent to a CAT MTL set-up, rubber rollers and flywheels etc yet they are using a 279D CTL which is steel undercarriage and track and doesn't have the torsion bar like the MTL does, and MTL is not just a market phrase its a real thing...

No, its a Cat marketing term. Go look up your ISO standards, it's a CTL.
@adamsmedley1541
@adamsmedley1541 6 лет назад
I promise you it is not a marketing term whatsoever, MTL's have rubber undercarriage, nylon beaded tracks, flexibility on each runner to allow manipulation over rough terrain without un-leveling the work-tool and so on. CTL's have steel undercarriage similar in design to an excavator/dozer undercarriage bar the torsion bars that fit it to the main frame, the tracks on a CTL have steel plated rubber tracks with a VERY different layout of rollers and fly wheels also the alignment of the runners to the track is more central on a CTL whereas the MTL is over to one side of the track just to state a few major differences.

So the ASV is good for landscapers! I understand now! 🙉 if you want lifting buy John deere. If you want to ride in a steel cage like an amusement ride with no mobility buy a Caterpillar. If you want to make money and get the job done fast buy a New Holland.

REALLY slanted comparison. Have all the machines do th same thing with same bucket load. Stop spinning the low side track to get them to slip.

Shut up if you haven't ran all of them. I rented an asv to remove snow ( I have an bobcat track loader and a new Holland wheel loader.) The asv was trashed and I did things with it in areas I would never have dreamed with the other two. I had no opinion one way or another before. And payload on newer ones rivals my LX985 new Holland with a smaller machine. The bobcat, well it's like a Chevy, Someone will always buy it cause of what is says on the side but it isn't better, and in quite a few important ways it's worse.

lol treads that are very aggressive still not doing what they say they will. Put those same treads on another machine and you'd see wins.

Always fill it with a load and problem solved, ASV boogie wheels fall apart if you use it in projects with stones, Rubber chip away time after time.

Hi Bill, We encourage you to demo the machines to see how they work in your application. We also have a video with some bonus footage with full buckets: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y1IwA1mSUwg.html

this is a bullshit video nothing will climb like a bobcat I say this because I've run every machine they showed on this video and bobcat by far has the best stability and climbing ability also has the best track system and best reliability lift ability is comparable to anything else in its weight class only thing I don't like about bobcat is the slow hydraulics
@theoneonlymonkeymanohyea6769
I know this is fake cause I own both terex and cat (terex was bought by asv same design) the cat 279 it way better than the terex
