The actual footprint would be 17 inches with a height of 51 inches. A 4x4 is actually 3.5 x 3.5 Hence the 7 inches removed from the 24 inch piece of cribbing = 17 inches
You could be correct, but not if they made their own cribbing. Most cribbing for most departments was probably made decades and generations ago. We saw that they made their own modern day plywood pads instead of using bought rubber pads. In our fd we use actual dimensions i.e. 4”x4” for our cribbing. Instead of Doug fir, ours are made from Hardwood Cherry.
