Stable tour of where our horses are moving to 

Jesse is 28. So they weren't too young.

​@@KateBrown-hs2zd Matt was only 19 and Jesse 20 in 2016 so they were both quite young when they first met. Nice to see how far they've come and are now working together for their future.

​@@KateBrown-hs2zd they actually got to know each other when Matt was 17 and Jesse was 19. Matt already knew about Jesse when he was 15. So, young it is.

The dump where I first started riding had all their horses in STANDING STALLS, 24/7! They only ever got out of their prison cells to do lessons with bratty kids. The stalls were 5 to 5.5 feet wide, definately not 6 feet, and not big enough for them to lie down. How incredibly cruel! And they were standing on top of a foot of compacted manure in those narrow stalls. They were never cleaned except when we kids took the initiative and cleaned them for the poor horses. The smell was horrible and the floor boards were badly rotted from having sat in piss and poop constantly. Imagine the poor horses' feet! We did clean their feet every time they were ridden, probably before and after, and I don't remember any diseased feet, nor overgrown hooves, but still my heart always bled for those poor things who were so badly mistreated. I hate to think how badly their health was impacted by that, in so many ways! Even as a 10 year old kid, I could clearly see how cruel it was. No wonder the horses often acted out! They were so miserable! It was so cruel in every way. Mentally, emotionally, and physically. I think back on it often now, and I wish I had know enough to phone the authorities on them. I hope somebody did. The place is long gone now. That falling down old barn was called the Tuxedo Riding Club. Before that it was called Sunshine Stables. It was in Winnipeg Manitoba, and was owned by John McCloud. It was very close to Tuxedo Shaftesbury High School, on what was then the edge of the city, in about 1970. The only good thing about it was that there were miles and miles of trails, so many that you could never get tired of any part of the area where we rode. You could go on rides that were as long as you liked, the only limit was your wallet, and how many hours you could pay for the horse's rental. It was like heaven! Mr McCloud saw us as free labor, so we could hang around all we liked, after school and all weekend. We did get a lot of free rides for our work, and we also took out lessons if the instructors couldn't be there, which boosted our egos, even if we were lousy teachers. (I hope the parents only paid for a ride, not an actual lesson!) Some of us nearly lived there. There was a yucky old "lounge" with couches, a fridge, and heat in winter. Winnipeg winters often go to -30° F (Or -34° C) , but we were there whether or not we could ride. Despite the crappy parts, it was a wonderful experience that will always be dear to my heart.
