This is a popular pencil in Germany and other parts of Europe. It's very common for school and office use, and the Noris comes in many different varieties. This 3-pack of the standard 2/HB Noris was purchased in France last year, and here I finally had the chance to try them out.

I've used these ones since I can remember. I can recall buying them in boxes of 6 at my local store when I was a little kid. Great, dependable pencil. They're everywhere in my country.

Hi Alex! You don't see these very often in stores here in the US. They are a good pencil! Thanks!

The BEST most thorough review of the infamous Noris. 120 years this year! Happy Anniversary Noris! This review detailed every single thing one could think of to demonstrate the use of this superb writing instrument. It’s my favorite Staedtler! I love your handwriting as well! Very beautiful! I write using the Palmer Method and am left-handed. The only minor detail is the faint smudge factor at times, however I have a light hand and I rarely get the dreaded “left-handed smudge”. Thanks for a superb and detailed review!!!

Hi Blue Skies - thank you so much for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the review of the Noris! It is a great pencil and I'm glad you like the way it performs as a left-handed writer. I'll be reviewing more Staedtler pencils in the future. Thanks again!!

As a leftist, I REALLY suffer from the left-handed smudge. On top of that my hands sweat a lot and the smudging can definitely affect my page as well.

Staedtler has become one of my favorite pencil brands! The quality of graphite and its wood case is amazing! ✏️ 👍

I find that there are some variances in the materials, but overall Staedtler pencils are very good. Thanks!

I ordered a pack for the first time off of Amazon - seller claimed made in Germany and they aren’t. Can you suggest a specific German made model?

Talking about "The Grass is always greener" ... these pencils are everywhere in the UK. They sell them in big multipacks at Back To School time. I would love to get hold of the DIxon yellow Ticonderoga pencils and Pink Pearl erasers. LOL.

I like pencils but I don't like when they become small. I remove the grafite (core) and use it in my old mechanical pencil Toinson D'or. After a few days in the water is easy to open and remove the grafite .
@AlwaysAnalog
@AlwaysAnalog 3 года назад
Hi Mario! It can be difficult to write with pencils that are too small. I never heard of your method of soaking pencils in water to remove the graphite core - wow! Glad you figured out a way to use up the graphite. Thanks!

That could be a way to use Ikea-pencils..... but they are to hard and grey for my taste.

I just noticed on the packaging that the number 2 is first on the package rather than the HB. It's a small detail but it surprised me.

Hi Louie - it is interesting especially because this pencil is marketed in other countries, where HB is the primary identifier. Thanks!

The Noris has been my favorite for at least a decade for writing, It pairs perfectly with the pentel hi-poly cap and block erasers so i always purchase the non-eraser version. I found out recently, that unfortunately, Staedtler switched from wood to that wopex material for the Noris line for "sustainability" reasons. The pourous crystalline chemical structure of natural wood, which lends hardness and lightness to a pencil, is obliterated in this highly processed wopex material. The end of an era, honestly. I have 2 more 50 count tubs of the classic Noris so between my stash of similar pencils and boxes of French-made bics, another workhorse of mine, I should have enough to last another lifetime.😂

Hi Matt - sounds like you have a good stock of the wooden Noris pencils! I wasn't aware they stopped making them in wood. I don't care for the Wopex material, or any non-wood pencil, so I'm glad I have a few of the old style Noris pencils left. Thanks!

@@AlwaysAnalogI replied and it seems YT might have auto deleted it because I accidentally linked a blog. At any rate, Staedtler is referring to the new Noris AND Tradition material as "Upcycled Wood" as opposed to WOPEX for marketablility, if I had to guess. Still the same material and manufacturing process, however. As far as I'm aware, WOPEX has always been primarily pulverized wood with some plastic, I'm not aware of the ratio. Have a great weekend, sir!

What I come to find out with Eraser tipped Pencils is that Erasers oxidize or harden like Headlights on a Car, the Eraser is still good, but it forms a hard smudgy layer around the outside. To combat this, I usually either put the Eraser through a Sharpener to give it a cone like look and take a Exacto Knife and cut the top....or I just simply cut off the top. Usually depending on how hard and dry the Eraser is, this method should work to make the Eraser workable again. Now mind You that not all Erasers can be recovered because they are too hardened and dried out beyond recover.

Hi Manny - that's a good tip for renewing the erasers. I always say they go "stale" over a period of time and become hard and brittle, but if you can remove that layer you'll have a usable eraser again. I've had some that are hard as rocks all the way through . Thanks!

For this case I use a nails file to remove the outer layer. That way you keep most of the eraser.

How many retakes have you ever had to do for the writing part of the episode? Have you ever accidentally spelled something wrong or just had a complete mental block of what you wanted to write? Just wondering. I noticed you sometimes have to pause and think once in awhile!! 😁😁 Take care!!
@AlwaysAnalog
@AlwaysAnalog 3 года назад
Hi Greg! Generally speaking, I don't like to do retakes unless I really have to. There's been a couple of times when I've misspelled a word or forgot proper punctuation, but I just keep going. The writing part is really improvised, so sometimes I have to stop for a moment and think about what I want to write and what works I want to use, much like I do when I'm writing my letters or journaling. Thanks!

@@AlwaysAnalog The eraser is good for Me, but since You're heavy handed, I don't think any Eraser tipped Pencil would serve You any justice. I think that's why You always have problems with Eraser tipped Pencils.

I thought the Norica was the main Staedtler Pencil? Cause they come in two Colors and I fail to remember if they have any Jumbos or Eco Noricas, but You can get them in a bulk pack as well.

They also sell the Noris in all the many variations and in bulk school/office packs. The Norica and Noris are the two biggest sellers. I will have to compare the two and see how they are different/similar. Thanks!

I’m in Ireland and Noris are far more common here than the Norica. And the Tradition which is like the Noris but in red and black is also far more common. It’s few cent more expensive than the Noris but I never noticed it being any better. As far as I know the Noris and Tradition are the most common Staedtlers all around Europe.
@Ayatron34
@Ayatron34 10 месяцев назад
@@Dreyno Staedtler's description implies they're similar but with minor differences *"The red and black striped models from our traditional series offer comparable quality to our Noris pencils. They are available in a wider range of finely graded degrees of hardness; however, unlike our classic Noris pencil, the dipped end is not colour coded. Our tradition pencils are particularly suitable for producing clean lines and textures, as well as differentiated tones from grey to black."* The Tradition seemed better to me, but granted there isn't much in it.

@@Dreyno At least in Western Europe. - Norica is a bit more commen in the Easterneuropean contries... Where Koh-i-Noor also is way more commen. (I have been in 40 european contries).

@@LazyStory I live in Ireland. Koh-I-Noor are mainly available for art purposes. You rarely see them as ordinary stationary. Staedtler, Faber-Castell, Conté and Stabilo are probably the most widely available. Norica are available here but just nowhere near as popular as their other models.
