Stage 2 BMW M550i Has it's first Major Problem!!

Hello everyone! It has been a while since I have posted! I have run into my first major issued with the M550i since tuning and in ownership! I talk about the issue and what was done to the car to fix the problem. I also at the end give you guys a little sneak peak of the new addition to the channel coming in the next week or so! I have a 2019 m550 and experience shuddering sometimes at low rpm or right as I drive off, do you think it could be a transfer case issue

do you plan on doing springs, that would make the fitment on those bigger wheels look insane, plus handle and ride better

I have photos on my tik tok of the wheels on the car and I’m not gonna run spings just because the fitment is perfect and flush

I had a coolant leak in the lines right in the V of the engine by the turbos. These engines put out a lot of heat. Thankfully, it was an easy fix for me. I went to BMW and they said bmw recommends replacing full metal lines, in fact that’s all they would sell me. I also have an 18 M550 (now stage II) S/O to those of us that rip big body V8’s. Such special cars in the world full of B58’s and S58’s

Thankfully I had a model built later in 2018 where they put in the upgraded lines if not I would’ve had to replace those with the radiator and pump.

I’m looking at a 2018 m550i it’ll be a daily driver would you say it’s worth it? Reliability wise compared to an m340i?

@@chuckbarr7291 if you’re looking for reliability I’d go for the M340i especially if you’re going to tune. The twin turbo V8 is a lot of fun and unique in a world full of 6 Cylinders. That being said I haven’t had any issues besides the coolant leak. As much as I love the big body I think my next car will have an S58 and be a little leaner for the track. If you get the 18 M550 I highly recommend deleting both exhaust resonators. Quiet enough in comfort and beastly sounding in sport mode, if you keep the factory valves.

@@Heyitscristian so would you recommend it as a daily driver for a while? I plan to have it for at least 5 years and it’ll go past 100k miles

@@chuckbarr7291 It’s the best bang for the buck imo it’s super comfy even on HR lowering springs. Something about the 5 seems more executive and classy over the smaller 3. I’m convinced interior fit and finish (including materials) is better on the 5’s too. Just make sure it’s a clean example and maintain it.

So did you have to recover the refrigerant I seen someone else removing it to change the radiator, and The flex plate in the front control arms I had to replace those to, thanks

Did you have to unlock your dme first before using bm3? I have a 18 m550 and heard we dont have to unlock dme before tuning

I have a 2018 M550, and just flashed bm3 stage 2 on it. No need to unlock DME

So what’s the most expensive repair bill I could get expect on these cars ? Is buying a 2018 with 50k miles without warranty a bad idea if I get rid of it before 100k miles ?

I personally bought mine with 54k miles and now have 115k miles. I’ve been tuned for 1 year about 20k miles now and all I’ve had to replace while being tuned is this radiator and pump. Before being tuned all I had to replace was a wastegate actuator so it has been pretty reliable for me in my current ownership with it. Would recommend this in a heartbeat!

@@jbcars Did Bmw fix it under warranty? Online I read the water pump and thermostat got an extended 10-year/ 150k mile warranty.

You recommend getting one of these as a daily? I heard the V8 engines at bmw are a pain to maintain, I heard ppl go with the V8 Mercedes instead

This is by far the best daily money can buy in my personal option, I love Mercedes but if you want just luxury go with a Merc but if you want luxury and performance, go with a Beamer

I had to replace all my coolant lines with stainless steel lines ($3000+), and even after that it's still leaking..... Too many plastic / low quality rubber hoses in the engine bay that are just bound to fail.

@@Worldofgrudge sheeeesh nice find. I decided not to go with that 2018, dealership had so many horrible reviews. Hopefully I find a deal like you did I’m tryna upgrade from this 328i 🤧

I appreciate you making these videos so much. ME and my girl have been pooling money so we can both get our dreamcars but its hard to find real owners with modded cars. I'm looking at an M550i at $33k and my lady is looking at an E53 amg $29k. Cheers, beautiful ride.
