Found you years ago when you still had the speed3. I had a base mazda3 at the time. Went to a 2013 Hyundai Veloster remix. Put a couple grand in it. Now I’m driving from southern illinois to buy a one owner 2011 speed 3 with 52k original miles bone stock.

I've got an 09 speed 3 i'm modding very slowly (finances) and after all the research i've done, i feel like best first upgrades you probably should have done, that i'm planning to do to my car, would be an oil catch can and fuel pump internals. Then i'll get around to a lot of the same stuff you have done too. that said, love this video! thanks for the financial forecast man! lol

I got really lucky. I found a guy on facebook that was selling his mods that he had been building up to modify all at once when the car got totaled. I got a new AP and fuel pump for 700 together and got them shipped to me.

2k in mods= mid 12s 1/4 mile daily grocery getter. Nishan tuned.. pro Tune (e tune or local) makes all the parts come to life.. bolting on parts does not make it faster need a tune! And hpfp are only needed if upgraded turbo.. ask a tuner. Cobb ap and 75$ e tune base map with 1 revision. Tune it or expect avg results.

A Miata will eat up a SP3 through the twisties. If you want straight line speed, go FI.

You didn't add the price of the wheels , which for anyone modding (other than forced induction kits) will be the most expensive part.. I made stage 2+ on my gti for around $1200 (that's all the bolt ons minus the HPFP)

Ebay DPs are usually decent for this platform. Just check the flange and the welds, and take it to a machinist if it needs touched up before install. High-end DPs, like CP-e's or COBBs catted ones, are in the $550-$650 range.

I need help. Just bought a 2010 ms3 slightly modded from a second hand dealer. He says the exhaust has been modded. The intake is clearly modded with one that I cannot recognize and a blow off valve. He nor I can tell if it was etuned. I obviously need to know after watching your post. Please help

Yep. Mazdaspeed engineers are purists: they don't believe in performance cars with autos. (Dual clutch, electronically controlled manuals - like on exotics - are an obvious exception; my Dad's Alfa Romeo 4c has one of those).

I'm looking into getting a Mazdaspeed 3 and drove 2 hours yesterday to look at a 2010 model, it was super loud and had lots of upgrades and scared me thinking its been through hell most its life, theres not many Mazdaspeeds for sale in my area (Alabama) but there is a 2007 model in my town, was wondering what gen you prefer if I should wait until i find a gen 2 again

Many people who have driven both the gen 1 and gen 2, generally prefer the gen 1. However, at the end of the day they are pretty much identical as far as performance. So, it really depends what you find more aesthetically appealing. And not to mention, you will struggle to find a low mile gen 1.

Don't bother man, get a speed3. Start with a good base rather than trying to make something super slow fast.

Eh, in my opinion if you plan on keeping it for atleast another year. a catback and intake would make it a much more responsive and enjoyable car.

Cameron Alford when I bought new cars I would sell them in like 4 months (it'd just be for fun and to change things up). I've had my Mazda 3 for 6 months but I would definitely consider keeping it for a while. That's why I'm considering to do some mods to it like an exhaust. How much would you say a catback would run me?

If you want to have fun grab a cheapish turbo kit instead of wasting on an exhaust, you'll most likely lose power on the catback. Or atleast get some headers and an intake, exhaust alone is pointless apart from the sound.

I love to whoop on half ton trucks cuz thats what all my buddies run lol. If its like a modded f-250 they'll pull on me from a dig. Ive beat every honda I've ever raced lol. I know theres a lot of faster hondas than my car but yet to race one. ummmm trying to think of any others. I got smoked by a Turbo mini cooper lol, it was prob stage 3 atleast. couldn't believe it. Im 1 for 1 with WRX's, i roasted a blob eye but also got smoked by a hawk eye. Thats all I can think of within reason. I had a really fun run with a focus st. it was about even all the way up to 90

i got a question. for my oil changes, should i go to the dealer or go cheaper and go to a shop. asking because you need a new mazda filter every time right? a shop prob wont have that right. the dealer will be more expensive but better i think. speed 3 2012 BTW

You can run any oil filter brand! Doesn't have to be mazda.

astablishment2697 learn to do it yourself, it's the easiest thing to do! They want to charge me a little over $100 to change it when I can do it myself for $30. If you don't have the tools, you'll spend about $100 total

Losing a LOT of efficiency if you don't do exhaust too at the 400whp level. True story: I was stuck at 360whp on my otherwise fully bolted Speed 3 while tuning my S3. Slapped on a full 3", and the very next pull was 395whp. Yep, that's right: I gained the better part of 40whp with the exhaust. Now an S4 can move enough air that you don't *need* a full 3" exhaust; just up the boost even more. But I'm all for efficiency (mod smarter), and you leave a LOT on the table with stock exhaust, especially with the known-restrictive Genpu axle-back section. Additionally, my S3 is much more responsive than an S4. Now if I were built-block, I'd have gove S4 for it's superior top-end. But for around-town driving, and a solid top-end for rolls, competition, and canyon carving, the S3 is hard to beat in its balance of responsiveness and power potential.

They can. My Ebay special I got from a local bud for $50 because it had a flange crack. I threw $30 bucks at a welding buddy and asked him to get me fixed up. It's been perfect ever since (over 4 years and going) as confirmed by multiple telemetry measures I can track through my AccessPORT, including AFR, STFTs, and LTFTs.

Bone stock, yes, you'll be fine. But if you do intake or exhaust, get the internals.
