Thank you for reviewing my book, Jeff! What an honor to be featured on your RU-vid show, which I'm already a fan of.

I am an coin magician and i can perform 1hr of performance just by using selective coins routines from mu repertoire. Will this book help me go to the stage. I also perform mentalism and classical magic.
@EruditeMagic
@EruditeMagic 2 месяца назад
Yes, the concepts are true no matter what you perform. I'm not suggesting you could perform an hour of coins on stage, but John's thoughts will help you take what you already know and move it to a bigger venue. Hope that helps!

Already one of the top 5 magic books I own. Must own for any serious magic performer. There is no way you walk away after reading this book and not come away learning and USING one idea. Thanks Jeff for another great magic book review.

Fantastic review Jeff! I was wondering, would you recommend this book for someone who only does mentalism? What about for someone new to the world of magic and mentalism who doesn't have much performing experience and/or an act?
@EruditeMagic
@EruditeMagic 7 месяцев назад
Yes, for sure! Although the acts and specific tricks you will learn may not be your style, that's not the point. The point is learning how to take what you already know and turn it into a complete act. Definitely recommended to someone starting out!

@@EruditeMagic Thanks, now I just have to learn some mentalism tricks in order to be able to put together an act using what he teaches! 🤣

Looking for a complete book, good theory/advice, ideas for open, mix close etc

Why is close up magic seen as a step below stage? Your video opens with the word "graduating.." just trying to understand
@EruditeMagic
@EruditeMagic 2 года назад
I don't think of one as being superior to the other, but from a logistical standpoint, anyone can perform close-up magic. You typically have to be invited to perform stage magic. 🤷🏻
@dustingrimmmagic1067

As someone who did close up magic for 7 years before starting to do stage shows, I think its a fair mindset to have. Close up magic, by the nature of being a more social environment, allowing for more direct interaction with the individuals you perform for, is much more forgiving in many ways than stage magic is. In close up you can interact with everyone involved to equal degrees, on Stage you have to play for a crowd without being able to get to know everyone first. Skripting is much more important, and visibility is an issue often not as concerning in close up magic. I still love close up magic more, but a stage show presents certain challenges that are a natural progression to what you learn doing close up magic for audiences.

I don't think so. It sounds like a version of Larry Becker's excellent Sneak Thief. There's a great version in Handsome Jack, etc. by John Lovick called "Chic Thief". Hope that helps 👍
