I just did my first solo gig using ST3 with backing tracks. It all worked out really well. It is such an incredible game changer allowing me to cover songs that I could never do as a solo guitar / vocalist. One tip I figured for songs that include tracks that have some tracks that I want the audience to hear only a parts of a track, and only I want to hear other parts of the track, like a "lead guitar" track that contains rhythm parts as well as a solo sections, I will create automation to pan those parts differently at the appropriate points. That was very helpful in several song tracks that I am using.
@@ScottUhlMusic yeah it’s just I’ve already done like a years work to get our Logic Session organized and we got a good system going. It’d take weeks to migrate all of that material over to Stage Traxx. I’d need to see more examples of the “hosting feature” being used more to sell me more on it. Lol
Thank you for this great series on ST3! I did swim with turtles in Molokai, Hawaii a few years back. I like turtles, and snorkeling is a great combo…..
Phew - just binge-watched all 4 episodes 😅. A great way to spend a Sunday Appreciate the effort that you've put in; great stuff - now playing with MIDI triggers for the FX on the RC-600. The big that wasn't completely clear was that the timed MIDI messages are based on track time points rather than elapsed time. This means that they work as needed when you jump or loop audio region 🥳 Much thanks from the UK
Woww major updates on a major cool app!! Definitely will keep this app in mind since I'm a solo artist playing with tracks. Always need other ways to do things. I like turtles!😎
Awesome video Scott! I've just started looking into Stage Traxx after watching the 3 part series you made. Thanks as always for the amazing content..Oh and "I LIKE TURTLES"
Super cool video! I am now interested in this software. So if that was your intent. Mission accomplished! It would be great for any cover band or hired guns. My band would use this if we were to cover I Like Turtles. As always thanks for the great content. Have fun in Mexico!!
Been waiting for this update video from you, Scott. The additional 2 tracks is an answered prayer for me. Learned a lot from your content Scott, I never thought of the other features if you have not discussed it. Keep it up! I like turtles.
Another great video Scott... I hope this isn't a stupid question but would I be able to connect hdmi for external screen plus 1/8" stereo output for tracks plus usb c thru to keep the Ipad charged or charging while using on a gig? Is this feasible and is there such a muti port adapter that you know might do all these things at once? Thanks in advance....
Excellent additions - One feature that you didn't discuss is the brighter highlight instead of color when highlighting a section on playback...that is an awesome new feature...Question: If I have my version of lyrics and my guitar player has his, how does scrolling work when I have my sections highlighted - do they some magical way stay in sync? I like turtles btw :)
Oh yeah, that one is nice too. And I’ll need to check the autoscroll, I don’t believe it will work with both so the other musician will just have to scroll themselves
Hi I'm a new user of this ST3. Question: can I use my nanokontrol to operate for tracks adjustment. If ever there a possible way a nanokontrol in ST3 can you make vedio. 😃
Hei Scott! Thanks for all your videos, I've been using Anytunes pro+ since their first edition and had a long list of improvements that they implements after a while..than few days ago I run to your video about this app that I did download too så many years ago but never used until now... I'm transfer all my files to ST3 now but since I'm both guitar player and singer I need something that is missing on ST3 compare to Anytune and that is the possibility to set "visual marks" on the "wave form" Down below as those marks will give me a clue on when the guitar solo is coming or when to start to sing the verse or whatever I need to know is coming...just before it happens...this will be a nice improvements specially for instrumental songs with no lyrics where the intro could be long, repetitive or with a long break without a count inn before the solo start. so in other words, this visual marks will preparare for what is coming next. I look forward to use this app that has been improved well since the first time I bought it. for now it takes me days before I can transfer all my songs from Anytune to ST3... Ciao!!!!
I like everything about this app. I am going to build a practiveroom for me and friends and I want to include ST3 in our daily life. But turtles are still cuter than this app. I like turtles.
This is awesome man, you save my life with this series, I used to run bk tracks with ableton but I don't like to carry my laptop around all the time plus all the other gear, with this I only will have to carry my phone or my tablet and that's it, I really like that now you can modify the pitch and the tempo of the multitrack songs. We are starting on this backing tracks journey, you have great content on your channel Scott, thanks and I want you to know that "I like turtles" xD
Yup! I do that all the time. I have mixing station up if I need to make any adjustments, but for the most part it’s a set it and forget it situation. Having a sound guy is always better, but it’s definitely fine when I’m in those situations 👍
scott another great video...and ST3 is a great app....switched over from another app after 8 years....ST3 way more stable ...best new upgrade in 3.8 is the audio routing/additional multitracks...much much easier...good luck in Mexico...I like turtles!!!
Hello Scott and everyone, I came across the videos about the StageTraxx3. I'm from Brazil and I'm trying to set up a Stage Traxx 3 + Beatbuddy + HxStomp setup here so that I can do my solo performances. I have a question, and I confess I know very little about MIDI, but if I wish to control both pedals via MIDI from the StageTraxx, what cable connections should I have? Could I buy those MIDI adapters (like the ones from Mvave) and connect them to the pedals? Should I connect one via Bluetooth and the other with a cable? Or would both work via Bluetooth? I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me.
If you are connecting multi midi devices, I personally like this one: WIRELESS Bluetooth MIDI + MIDI Splitter - WIDI Thru 6 BT - Demo/Review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iWPTYBq0VdA.html And for help understanding midi, I would watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IoUtshlzCTo.htmlsi=xIPmQAap7mjfzfAM
I am trying to use ST3 with an external screen and it works BUT when you connect it with the HDMI adapter, it disables the headphone jack I am using for the backing tracks. It is very disappointing that Apple products lack such basic functionality like choosing which audio output device to use.
It can definitely get difficult with only having the USB C/Lightning port and a headphone port (if you are lucky enough to still have a headphone port)
How reliable is the Hosting Session thing for live shows? Does it use Bluetooth or all band members need to be connected to a same Wifi network? Do all members need to purchase the full version or just the one hosting the session?
My singer has some issues connecting for some reason every now and then. No one else does. But yeah you have to all have the full version to connect 👍 but it works really well for us!
Thanks Scott! Very interesting, as usual ! 👌🏻 Especially that the Peter’s video, the developer of the app is not so detailed! BTW, I Like Turtles! 😀 CU
Thanks Scott for all your videos on stage traxx3. I have been using it a lot with my stomp and doing midi commands to control presets and snapshot changes which is awesome. I am just wondering if you know anything about using the helix Pod Go with stage Traxx 3? My bandmate has one and we can't get it to work. Program does recognize it. But can't do midi learn like I can with my stomp. Any idea why?.
Novice Question - starting a duo (guitarist and vocalist), 15 songs max, fine if lyrics are on paper. Just starting out - for ease of use would you recommend Stage Traxx (and go paperless) or Multitracker?
Hey Scott - great video as always! One of the key ideas that you’ve mentioned is your vocal cue track. I thought I that the ST3 update included a voiceover feature, but I don’t see any detail on it. I saw in a forum there were no plans to add a recording feature to Stage Traxx to add vocal cues. I’ve thought of dumping the multitracks to a daw and recording vocal cues. But seems like a pia. Maybe you could do a video on the process you use to accomplish this?
Yup, I have a video on my entire backing tracks process here: BACKING TRACKS for LIVE PERFORMANCES - COMPLETE Step by Step Guide ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nw8wZfFSQ2w.html
great video!.........because your videos, i purchased the app and i spent the time to learn to use it! however, i still use my android tablet instead of my ipad since most of my tracks are mp4 (video) files that i got from youtube! too bad they dont just update the app to allow importing video files!!!! keep up the good work!👍🏾
Thanks! And that would be interesting if they allowed those types of files. You could always use free software like GarageBand or Audacity to convert it to mp3
so. i use this incredible app for my backing tracks with my behringer xr-18. i tried th icloud sync and lost a bunch of songs. backup saved some but not all. lost a bunch of midi automation. scared to try again. still, the best app i’ve used for tracks.
I’m a sax guy that needs to see the pdf lead sheets. You showed one use of a music sheet in this video. Can I have it scroll like the lyrics sheet can? Use/match up the timing like the lyrics? I like Turtles.
I have a question. If I have the full version (as I am the one who does all the programming for our backing tracks). If I am hosting a session can the rest of the band use the free version or will everyone in the band need to buy the full version. Thanks.
Thanks Scott, I bought this app based on your videos. Do you have to buy a separate full version to make it work on your iPad and computer? I like turtles.
Great video, as usual. Have you ever tried the “Combine USB & headphone output” option in the routing? I cannot get that to work. Also, have you ever tried using this with the VoiceLive 3 Extreme from TC Helicon? I would like to run this using the MIDI features but routing seems to be really tricky. Any thoughts?
@@ScottUhlMusic Yes, I think there is a bug there. It disabled the audio out altogether…I had to reset the iPad. I end up using the USB out using the iRig Duo or Zoom H6.
So, I'm still confused...does this new feature mean that we can now create the mp3s with all tracks panned to the center and adjust them in the Stage Traxx app as needed? Thx 🙂
Thanks! And that would be a whole different app, but I reviewed Lalal and I like it a lot: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6sEDs1T7fjw.htmlsi=bulAzhgZRSzphMYu
Yeah that’s super helpful! And it’s actually been there all along, I just didn’t go over it in my previous videos and discovered how cool it was later. Extremely helpful!
I would like to know why you preferred to use the lyrics in PDF format instead of including them in the App. I really liked some of the options that the app offers (transpose, real time lyric), but I wanted to hear from someone who really understands the subject before I made this decision.
It’s just me personally. I like to make my own charts and highlight the first few words in the verses so I remember how they start and color code some stuff too. Just my preference.
Thanks for this, Scott! Not only do I like turtles, but I have just been loading my very first backing tracks to Stage Traxx 3. It’s perfect. My like of turtles can only be out-liked by my like of your tutorials and this timely app review. They say one turtle in the hand is better than a bunch of Traxx loaded onto an app. But, I have to disagree. Even though I like turtles, I’m going with the tracks today. Cheers!
I love everything I see in this app. I really wish they would have a note section or just a chord section. That you could place somewhere on your screen. I like to just group my cords together and not have to spread them out through the whole song. The app I’m currently using allows you to have multiple documents open, and you can size them so they can all fit. With that way I get to leave the group of chords stationary and I can have the lyrics scroll maybe you could do that on here and I’m missing it but if they could add that option, I would buy this app in a heartbeat.
Yes but you can’t use multiple documents at the same time. So if you put the chords at the top of the lyrics or pdf page when you scroll the lyrics you will lose them. At least that’s how it seems to me. I did download the app to try it and can’t figure a way around that
Hi Scott!!! I have question about your rig. I believe in the past you were using the Behringer XR 18, but it appears you moved to the Track Rig? May I ask why? I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on purchasing an XR 18 and just wanted to ask in case there may be something you’ve encountered that pushed you in that direction. My use case would be similar to yours using ST 3, some midi programming and backing tracks. Thanks for all you do!!!! You’re vids are 2nd to NONE!!! Keep up the good work. It’s GREATLY appreciated 😎
I use both. I’ll use the behringer mixer in most situations unless I need to send the signal to a splitter via xlr, or the mixer is too far away. In that case I’ll use the Track Rig 👍
Great video. I will also say for those who are blind and using Voiceover which is the screen reader built into Apple devices, there have been improvements so the app is now more accessible. I am blind myself so this is great.
While I Like Turtles I wondering how much more I'll like Stage Traxx vs Bandhelper + Ableton that I've been working to coddle together. Maybe it's time to sync up MIDI tracks and get this all running off a tablet? Only downside is having to get everyone on iPads which are more costly than Android tablets....
Hey Scott so many cool things about this app and it seems you have an influence in them updating exactly what’s needed and keeping them on track. I’m not using PDFs so much but I could say if there were an update I’d love to see this. On the simple copy to paste to add lyrics and quick add audio. Singer writer HD had been my go to app for creating and going back to songs partly created either lyrics or audio in the same location but it seems this app does everything but lacks that ability for creating songs. Perhaps there is a way to implement this. Tks Scott & I love turtles
Scott, you achieve even further musical deity heights if you could explain how to use all of these ST3 functions as a backbone with Loopy Pro. I want to have sections of a song that I can toggle to, replete with lyrics/chords/easy midi learn from ST3, but then somehow integrate it seamlessly with Loopy Pro so that I could use loops over the backing track stems. I'm I over complicating things by envisioning these 2 apps to play together well?
I haven’t messed with Loopy Pro, but I’ve used Quantiloop and I liked that one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QmActvDJx7M.htmlsi=4gsWadU2Yqop2vTq
@ScottUhlMusic Right on. Were you using Quantiloop in collaboration with ST3, or separate from it? I'm trying to figure out how and where in the signal path to meld Loopy Pro and ST3 together...
Scott, could you produce a piece describing how you and others promote themselves to venues as a one-man, backing tracks assisted performer? I would love to see examples of promo/press kits of this brand of artist. We're singing to the choir, so to speak, when we chalk up all the benefits of this approach... and it does seem to be a part of the norm, but it's stil vulnerable to skepticism. I'm set up with Livetraker (a review of this software would be a great element to your channel as well). B-Beats was my next option, but lack of adequate support for sync'd lyric sheet support pointed me to Livetraker... which is clunky in its own way, but only during the creation and edit process.... when in action for a performance, it's solid and very functional. My real need is how to get venues excited about the control and efficiency of the "assisted performer" which comes with trade-offs. Venue selection may be the critical first step but I'm vexed as to the actual content of a representative EPK. Help!
Thanks! I tried livetracker and had a lot of problems getting it “approved” which I didn’t like, even though the software was pretty good. I usually say to have a promo video with a good recording. Mine is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cuq0OZdBls4.htmlsi=NDpVBFZ4x2v5yEiD
Thanks Scott... and yes, I went through a troubled approval process as well. They used to authorize activation on a remote device such as a USB drive or SD card, but now it must be associated with the computer's internal ID, thus removing the capability of moving the authorized use from system to system.... disappointing. Thanks for the link, will check it out. And please consider sharing your thoughts and methods for marketing yourself to venues and even audiences.... great channel, valuable resource! @@ScottUhlMusic
These are great videos but I am still trying to understand how we would handle things like Live Instruments either in hardware or Virtual Instruments and Vocal effects - in other words Audio INPUT and Processing from a USB interface? Would that require another app working with ST3? How would that work? What would be the Min iPad that would handle all that?
You don’t have to have regular instruments going into the iPad. Everything plugs into a mixer/PA just like normal…. But you also have backing tracks going into the mixer as well
So - as a keyboard player I can't use this app in combination with another app that has virtual instruments I could play with a midi controller?@@ScottUhlMusic
Cool video. I've been using Stage Traxx since you put out the first video and it's a game changer for running tracks live. Question...do you plan on creating a video about your live duo/trio setup and how you go about making sure the tracks are balanced with the live instruments and vocals out front. Do you use in-ears in this setup or are you listening to the FOH to make sure its balanced? Thanks!
Thanks! And I have a video on balancing tracks here: How to BALANCE/LEVEL Your BACKING TRACKS ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X4wMVl3K7mc.html I do run FOH and ears at the same time. For some of my bands anyways. It’s kind of tricky, but it’s not awful. Mostly set it and forget it. It’s always better with a sound guy, but I can get away without it
Thanks for another great video Scott! Quick question on the Lyrics on external screen option. I am currently using the iPad to send the audio to my mixer via a lightning to 3.5 mm converter. Any suggestions on the type of connectors / adapters I would need to send the audio out to my mixer and the lyrics out to an external screen? Is there an adapter that has both and HDMI and 3.5 mm connectors? (I like turtles)
@@ScottUhlMusic I'm wondering if the right kind of usb hub would do the job?...just as long as it had the 3.5 audio and the HDMI I don't see why that would not work. Might be worth a try.
Hi Scott! Have you seen the I Like Turtles guy recently, he did a remake of this meme 😂 Anyways quick question. Is it possible to set up auto scroll on the lyrics only song even if I don't specify the song length? I can't make it work somehow and I don't know precisely how long the song will be since we won't be using backing tracks for this song. So I'm just curious if it's possible or if you need to set up the song length every time. I'd want to use the in built metronome in stop mode so it gives me tempo to start with but then off we go without metronome or backing tracks. What would you suggest in such case? Thanks a lot!
@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks for the reply! I noticed you can set the song length and it would be autoscrollable but the problem with it is that I never know if the song will be 3:00, 2:50 or 3:10 since we don't play to backing tracks or click yet (that would be set only in the stop mode to be in the ballpark of the tempo). Let's see I'll try to noodle with the settings and if it doesn't work it'll at least give me a reason to push the backing tracks to my bandmates even more :)
@@ScottUhlMusic The problem is going to be to modify everything for that now lol as I have like you a ton of music and backing tracks set for another all lol
Hey Scott, Is there a way to have the background of pdf files we add for lyrics switched to black background or "dark mode"? I have the global set to dark mode, but it does nothing for the pdf files I have added?
Yes I did confirm that. What a ton of work going back and having to redo all the lyric sheets. Should be a feature that could be added in a future update perhaps. I know other sheet music programs offer that...Mobile Sheets being one of them.@@ScottUhlMusic
There is a bit of a row about "ipads on stage" where some musicians are saying that the ipad is a barrier between the musician and the audience with them staring at ipads right in front of their faces. Any advice on how to hide the iPad? I've mic stand clips but I'm considering putting the iPad horizontal or maybe running a cheap display in a wedge. Curious to know what you do since you're also embracing tracks.
My advice is to ignore the haters. I go over the ridiculous iPad controversy in this video: The Controversy of Musicians Using iPads On Stage ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ft309ZbqXho.html Musicians are some of the best people I know, but also some of the most opinionated. They should be last on your list of people to impress live. Just my two cents
I just opened for Nita actually. She’s such a killer guitar player. I didn’t get to see what wireless she was using. I know the in ears were PSM 1000s though
