Las Vegas City Manager Mike Janssen is outlining what the fallout of the Badlands golf course judgments will be and how it affects jobs, future projects, and city property. Channel 13's Darcy Spears has more.
They tried to steal his property and lost. I remember when this happened thinking that guy is going to win and the taxpayers will cover the cost for their foolish mistake.
On an interesting note: the city will dump money 💰 on a couple of projects while I learned about this. It's the evil Kanevel museum that I was bidding on but now have to revise my bid because the city is pouring funds and so now it has to be quoted with prevailing wages
Of course no accountability. Never ceases to amaze me they fail us at every level, they fail the poor, the minorities, the city, the state, the nation. They all should have to go into work daily with a large L on their head that says loser. I would not give one of these fools CPR if they needed it.
If a business or a person was this negligent, they’d be financially liable and face prison time. If it’s a politician, they get off Scott free and can keep making the situation worse!
Think about what happened here. The rich pulled their strings in government to get what they wanted, ie to block the development. They were told by legal council it will not end well, but the city officials did what their rich donors told them to do. And those rich donors will not have to pay the cost, YOU AND I WILL!
I mean, if you raise their property taxes they’ll just buy another mansion somewhere else. Also, you can’t really know everyone who was or wasn’t in favor of or trying to influence this decision.
Unreal. You don't have to be a body language expert when those words were said!! Toby (from the Office) and the rest of the city politic not only have to face the citizens at large but likely have a few unsatisfied customers living around Badlands that want a refund for their failure to produce services purchased.
It sounds to me like even now, the city manager doesn't understand how development works. City councils can generally set development codes, but once set, they have to permit developments that meet the code.
Officials in office during the time this lawsuit went on should all personally be liable for 10% of whatever the damages end up being; then they should be barred from holding a government position ever again.
This state is trying to front that they are big money spenders. You already saw how they did the people working two jobs? High rent high overpriced homes. The genuineness brought the Raiders, homes went up thru the moon. Rents shot up thru the moon. But stagnation in wages. Now they want a bullet train, a baseball stadium, and a wider highway. They are sponsoring a Race team for F1 how much more is that really costing the tax payers? They have dug a ground for you but you’re not even dead yet.
6:28…wow…even three city’s attorney is telling the city it’s pointless to keep arguing. Like a car salesman telling you to keep your old paid off car, and not worth taking on a new car/loan.
This is outrageous hearing his agreement with comments on an amicus brief that justifies taking of private property is what got the city in trouble in the first place. 😂 I’m happy they will be forced to pay the judgment. If they don’t, the interest will grow daily.
These stupid people know no boundaries, they have a position of power and they all collaborate to brake laws or pass phony unconstitutional laws if they don’t have it their way. This hole city and state and all their paid news anchors report only what they’re told. How much interest for dragging this on? Pay back is a dog…..
This seems similar to the mormon temple being built up north. The city went the other way and allowed loopholes for them to build beyond current standing. Hopefully that lawsuit will bite them like this did. Just be fair and balanced city council. Why represent just one side?
Whenever theres a battle among one group of rich and another, you can bet your ass who's gonna pay for it. Elected officials told bold face lies to the public in the defense of his wealthy donors. The problem with all government officials whether its a mayor or city councilman or a cop on the beat is, when they ignore the law, they do not pay the price, WE DO!
so let me get this straight, people are going to lose their jobs because of mis-management induced by a handful of rich people that didnt want anyone else to have the kind of homes that they had. hm, sounds like the layoffs should start at the top and work their way down, and that those rich people should be paying for the mess they created. but as always, its the simple man baby, that pays the bills that kill.
We need more housing at all times we need more building building applications should always be approved unless there’s some serious reason why not and it just goes to show that many of these wealthy people that have a home there’s so disgusting that they begrudged somebody else having a home disgusting souls
Being a Nevada resident I am all for new single family homes as long as those homes are Built on a single acre of land! Nevada has a real water problem from Hi impact housing. Hi impact Housing has to be banned altogether it leads to Overbuilding, Hi crime, and unemployment when the boom is over. not to mention the waste of water with everyone planting water wasting plants for decoration, We live in a desert stop trying to create a false Oasis in your yards.
Shouldn't the NIMBYs be held liable too? It's because of them that this is such a huge mess. Make the NIMBYs pay some of this judgement. The people need to vote out of office those who are allowing this mess to continue.
Wow. I wonder if more accountability could be levied if public officials had to cough up a certain % of the judgement amount from their own pockets. Of course, no legislative body would ever pass such a regulation. I'd throw out all the green energy projects (Have you read about the Nantucket wind turbine blowing apart with fiberglass broken blades strewn over their beaches?); any future money allocated to attract future growth or business to the area; reduced expenditures for events like F1; and reduced police and fire fighting budgets to exclude OT. City employees rather than city residents should bear the brunt of this incredible misadventure...unfortunately.
How much is the real bill for them sponsoring F1 lmao they left a lot topics out of the public’s view. They originally said it would cost 7, million ( do the math some dumb man said proudly, we are making one Billion) then all locals got screwed with business closures and blocked both in and out. These people have the mindset of Bidenomics that’s for sure…..they want a wider highway so that all the suckers come and deposit their money 45, minutes faster but instead they started building a bullet train to go nowhere lmao 😂 dunce 🧢 everywhere in Nevada…..
I wonder when these bad faith decisions go into the realm of criminal? The more politicians that are called on it to pay w time and their money should be on the table.
as long as the colorado river flows(500 or so years ago went dry) there will be water for vegas--vegas reuses all of its sewer water(golf courses, fountains, etc) and dumps what it cant use back into the the river
@@dethray1000 A real rose hue underlies your comment. Lake Mead is drying up. Water is about power _and_ water. Without both, it's curtains on Las Vegas.
@@mvpfocus can't help drama queens--the water level in Lake Mead is totally controled--Lake Powell feeds into it--many other water systems flow into Powell--they try to balance it all--Lake Havasu,Lake Mojave--70+ percent of Lake Mead goes to Ag use--they will cut the ag use if needed--i hate talking to very very low low low IQ who know NOTHING-- what power are you talking about???? poly tic power----federal laws protect the use of that water---are you talking about electric power??? Nevada can get all its power from coal fired plants, sells the excess--hydro power is cheaper when available--california can go to HELL where it belongs with its stupid green bs
the arrogance and stupidity of these law makers are next level. they don't care about the amount bcuz it's the taxpayers that will pay for it not them. no different than California lol
@@kennixox262 You clearly don't know what you're talking about. This is not personal. You clearly don't have the goods, so when questioned for specifics, you immediately resort to ad hominem. Nice try.
@@mvpfocus We shall see. As I said, living outside the city limits, The corruption of the Las Vegas city council, the mayor and this golf cource developer one wonders just how much of a taxpayer scam this is. Not my problem!
All this just because some wealthy homeowners didn't want further development on the abandoned privately owned golf course. And it's the working joes in Las Vegas, the taxpayers, who get stuck footing the bill - not the people for whom this mess was created!
Basically the same kind of situation that leads a guy to armor up a bulldozer and take a drive to city hall. This guy had the money for lawyers, though.
If this was a fifth ammendment takings claim, does the city own the property now? If so, can't they sell it to recover some of the cost? Or was the final outcome a judgment for damages? I haven't been following this at all as I don't live in the city limits.
The idiots did what they always do , corrupt idiots doing the unethical and unthinkable. They thought they could just violate state laws at the expense of another, you know the way they are so used to doing? They lost and instead of being honorable they broke law and used the Arsenal of corruption dragging out their evil wrong doing. Now they owe big time interest and all they can do is blame themselves.
Just because the city refused to allow development doesn't mean they get to benefit from the sale of the property. It was tantamount to _taking_ ownership and doing nothing. But it would just be fraud if the city tried to sell someone else's property. They would just end up owing the owner _and_ the buyer, because it would be an invalid sale. Why would you think that a thief could resolve the matter by simply selling the stolen goods to pay the debt? No harm, no foul, is it?
I agree that the water problem won't be solved by wanton development. But finding water is a separate issue. The purchaser of the land probably wouldn't have purchased the land if it was worthless. And, as of now, there is no such water restriction on development. So, until such time, owners can do whatever they want with their land, as long as it's legal.
That's about $779 per person. Just do a onetime collection for that amount from every person in the city and call it done. Best to follow the advice of your legal counsel as that is why they are there.
It's not really about the Plaintiff or the Defendant, it's about the fees and charges - remember, it's not the miners in a goldrush that make the fortunes, it's the guys selling picks and axes :)
The property values must have plummeted with a derelict eyesore of a golf course in your back yard. You buy on a golf course assuming you will have a beautifully kept green space for a back yard view.
04:20 the question she asks is about what this means for the city and the departments, the city employees and last but not least the city taxpayers. But he veers into amicus briefs and crap like that. Listen, dont talk about the outcome you would have liked. The courts rendered a judgment, and that is the only thing that informs for decision making going forward. Answer the question, and quit talking about what might have been.
If there were PERSONAL financial and criminal consequences for these so called leaders, things like this would not happen. These individuals should be personally responsible for all legal fees on both sides, especially now that any reasonable person would know that they can't win.
So this lawsuit is helping keep city bureacrats from hiring more city bureacrats for a short time? Silver lining, I guess. Now, file a lawsuit against the persons responsible for going against legal counsels' advice. That's plain criminal negligence and obvious corruption. Not a judge in the country would disagree. Taxpayers shouldn't be stuck with the bill.
This crazy because I bet they've been able to pull these same tatics off on regular people for so long. This time they ran into somebody with patience and Deep Pockets.
Bad management to begin with - now the real solution is to raise taxes on those entities that can afford to pay - the casinos. Although I doubt this would ever happen, if you don't have the money, and you're cutting back on things that uplift everyone (the public good), then you're again mis-managing the situation. It's your own bloody fault.
Wait wait what happened to insurance? And if insurance is not covering this the first thing they need to be talking about is how to make sure that they are not left so liable in the future, and how they will not allow for tyrants in power to put the city at such liability without making them personally liable.
Did the politicians do this intentionally, so they could get a cut of the obvious lawsuits that would follow their actions? Edit - will there be a special assessment for all taxpayers, due to the willful malice of these politicians?
This Mike guy is hilarious 1/2 billion dollars so their rich friends didn’t get a golf course and neighbors. Why they didn’t actually get brought up on criminal charges is beyond me
